Jamie Foxx praises President Obama as “our Lord and savior”

Actor Jamie Foxx hailed President Barack Obama as “our Lord and savior” at the Soul Train Awards, which aired over the weekend but was taped in Las Vegas shortly after the 2012 election.

“It’s like church in here. First of all, giving honor to God, and our Lord and savior, Barack Obama,” he said to the jubilant crowd. Amid their thundering cheers he repeated, “Barack Obama! Y’all stand up!”

Foxx’s adulation is making the rounds on the blogosphere and on talk radio, and prompted a response from the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights in the United States.

“Foxx’s epiphany is startling,” league president Bill Donahue said in a statement. “It just goes to show that even though Obama did not succeed in stopping the oceans from rising (as he promised to do in 2008), he did succeed in convincing Jamie Foxx, and no doubt legions of others, that God exists. Whether God can survive an ACLU lawsuit accusing him of violating church and state grounds remains to be seen.”

Here’s a video clip of Foxx’s remarks:

First off, Jamie Foxx is a comedian, okay. So we expect him to make borderline statements. Secondly, African Americans make-up less than 13% of the US Population, so even if 98% of blacks DID vote for him, it still would not have been enough for him to win. Think, please.

That was just a very bad joke, just look how he said it and the face he was making when he said it, but what kills me, is the people claim to be Christians but still have hate in their heart for one another, because of the color of their skin, social status, and for other stupid reasons, being a Christian first and foremost is about loving one another. True it was wrong for him to say something that stupid, but it is not like any of you haven’t made mistakes either, but talking about people sure isn’t showing the world what being a Christian is about. If your not a Christian it shouldn’t matter to you what he said about Obama being the Lord and Savior anyway. Seek ye the kingdom of God first and his righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you.

I didn’t get that impression of what Jamie said as labeling President Obama as his Lord and Savior. I really thought he meant “Giving honor to GOD,(as) our Lord and Savior and President Obama”. Because he was so excited he came out of his mouth wrong. I don’t know Jamie Foxx personally but if you ever heard him give his testimony about his life and how he grew up then you would know that he doesn’t think that President Obama is the reason he(Jamie) has made so many accomplishments. Pi Mae – it is exactly your apathetic attitude about Christianity that has contributed to the decay of this country. You sound like one of those Christians who don’t have the guts to speak up about what is morally RIGHT and what is WRONG! Are you standing up for JESUS? No, you just let it slide. Are you speaking up for YOUR Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? No! Most of the people who voted for Barack Obama did so because he was a man of color and because of the liberal, “progressive” views of the party he represents – not because of the moral man he is, not because of what he contributed to this country in his first term. They just didn’t care to look at the real issues. Jamie Foxx’s remarks were a reflection of who the majority of people of color think Barack Obama is. It was not a joke, it is real. Wake up folks! We don’t care about anybody but ourselves? We want to talk about black and white, democrat and republican, what the president is doing or what he is not. Well what are you doing to change the world? Did you feed a homeless person? Did you look for a job because there are now hiring signs everywhere? Did you read a book? Help an old person? If we start the attitude change with the person in the mirror then you might not have so much time to complain! It is because you do not think. If you did you would not put this half white, half African in office. He is not your savior. You should have to earn your right to vote by voting with intelligence. I say this, Romney was correct, but it should be 47% voted for Obama for what he could give them. The other 6% that voted for Obama did so because they felt they owed something to the black race. They voted because they thought the sins of their fathers or should I say great, great grandfathers who either had slaves or supported segregation of the races was bad. Maybe it was bad but that is no reason to support a bumbling fool. Voting for Obama is like voting for Tiny Tim. For those that knew him, he too was a bumbling fool but became famous and rich because he COULD NOT SING. Think about the irony. As to “Too Smart 4 da South”…Delta is ready if you are. SouthRed, the problem is not that television is desenitizing our morality, it’s that people of faith like myself and (assume) you haven’t done a good enough job being an example of our faith and why we should have morals. Instead, we allow politicians and special interests groups to hijack our faith and make a mockery of it. We also spend more time condemning and criticizing from afar, instead of evangelizing face to face. Do you really expect people to follow and listen to Christians who pick and choose which morals to throw in people’s faces?? We’ve got to do a better job of being consistent and showing unconditional love for ALL people.

We know that the battle is not ours but its the Lord’s battle. We know that the prayers of the righteous availeth much. So don’t get suck in by this country’s hatred, be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, proving what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

How has Jaime Foxx’s comment affected your life? Did what he said cause you to lose your job? Did it cause you to become ill? Did it make you house payment go up? I can’t believe the responses here! If you know who your Lord and Savior is, his comments mean absolutely NOTHING to you! I know who my Redeemer is! Therefore, I recognize what Jamie Foxx said was a joke, as irreverent as it may be…its still a joke in his world. I know you all have heard worse! People, please stop doing God’s job of judging! OK South Red it doesn’t matter but I will show you anyway but I really want you to change.” Most of the people who voted for Barack Obama did so because he was a man of color and because of the liberal, “progressive” views of the party he represents – not because of the moral man he is, not because of what he contributed to this country in his first term. They just didn’t care to look at the real issues. Jamie Foxx’s remarks were a reflection of who the majority of people of color think Barack Obama is.”If all of that is not racist I don’t know what racism is. It doesn’t matter what color Barack Obama is or his race, he ran a better election than Mitt Romney did. Secondly African American only make up maybe 16% of people in the US so more people had to see what I said in the first point I made. WOW, whe posted such ignorant comments? And I only use the word “ignorant” because obviously the belief that the majority of people voted for him because he’s black and liberal have no concept or history of how this country has voted for the past 20-30 years. And the asinine rhetoric that black folks only voted for President Obama because he’s black is tired. Majority of black folks have voted democrat since the 60’s when the Republican and Democratic Parties did a role reversal of sorts in their support of Civil Rights…so learn your history. What it boils down to is that the Republican Party has become the Party of the status quo or a return to archaic philosophies and lifesyles while the Democratic Party has become the more progressive party.

You are not responsible for what your family members have done. The most you can do for them is pray and move on. Each one of us is responsible for what we know to be true and we will be judged based on that. You just need to make sure YOUR calling and election is sure. God will deal with each one of us accordingly. Just remember one thing. David was a murdered and an adulterer among other things, but was considered a man after God’s own heart. To tolerate this kind of blasphemy is why this nation has fallen so low. Obama himself claimed we are no longer a Christian nation. The fact that he is still our president is proof that he is right. LOL, or that “they are a joke” I think the funniest part is that all the people that are upset about it are immature and need to grow up and stop taking things so personal. It only bothers you because you personalize it. Not our problem, Not Mr. Foxxs problem and certainly not Pres. Obamas problem, it is your problem. So please let it go! If you’re so into God then surrender your pain to Him! Know the truth! Oh and if you’re mad about Obama winning, I’m sorry, but the system is set up for the people to decide, and majority wins. Looks like that’s what happened. :-/ He is still the president and we should always be praying for him as we were instructed by Christ to pray for our leaders, even if we don’t agree with them. Be thankful that you live in this country and they still let us say what we want to say! Instead of bashing everything and everyone. Be thankful. You’re very blessed!

I’m an independent businessperson who supported Obama (and no, I didn’t get a “gift”) but this was one of the dumber statements of the year. Getting caught up in your enthusiasm is one thing, but he should have exercised some common sense before making a blasphemous statement sure to offend and enrage millions. That said – sure, Foxx was an idiot – but it’d be refreshing to see a tad less hate from the so-called Christ followers. The perfect example of taking a clip out of context and running with it. Here are the facts. The election was on Tuesday, Nov 6, 2012. The Soul Train Music Awards was taped on Las Vegas on Thursday, Nov 8, 2012. There were still very high emotions regarding the election on the day of the taping. Jamie Foxx is a comedian, and on occasion incorporates current events in his act.

Furthermore, with what RomDogBillioniare might have proposed had he been elected, President Obama, may be seen as lord and savior to many. LOL!

Not sure if you Bible “thumpers” know this or not, but there is this awesome thing called the New Testament, it’s where Jesus came to fulfill the law and destroyed the old covenant making a new one with grace…yeah that’s the one we live under now. That, God, the real Jehovah, if you will, is not wrathful! He is full of LOVE, GRACE, MERCY, and JOY. He loves you as much as He loves Jamie Foxx and Barack Obama, and everyone else. His love is never ending. So stop preaching false doctrine on here or anywhere please, you’re only doing yourself a disservice. While it might have been a joke the sheer euphoria that is displayed is creepy. For all of Obama’s political skills he’s just a politician. A very savvy and effective practitioner of politics. He’s just passing through and one day he’ll be out touting a book and his presidential library and having parties for all his Hollywood friends. If Foxx really meant it then that’s his business but the problem people have with it is the near worship of a guy that is just someone that leads a political party. From the songs about him by little school children to murals of him on a cross with a crown on his head. It’s just a bit over the top for most people. We’re not building a 90 foot tower of solid gold to Obama are we?

They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

And Jennifer Brett should be ashamed for reporting something that was not worth repeating. How many of you people watch the Soul Train awards? None. So if you didn’t watch the show you wouldn’t know what he said. Why doesn’t Jennifer report some of the statements made on talk radio and Fox news

I trust Him to bring me home. I will no idea at that point what to do or where to go. I will be helpless as I close my eyes. My full faith is in Jesus Christ to bring me to my true home. Slavery end in 1866 by the way and no one alive today was a slave. Plus all people on the at one time or another were slaves. So drop slavey and the race card and come up with some answers or we will not have a country.

I just want to say that it is normal for African Americans to start an event by saying First I want to give honor to God and our Lord and Savior. They then go on to mention other people who they want to give honor to. I don’t believe Jamie was calling Barack Obama or Lord and Savior. It came out the wrong way because he did not give a pause or say other words between savior and Barack Obama. African Americans understand what he was trying to say because we hear these words all the time. Because so many people hate President Obama, many are trying to make something out of nothing. I am reading post full of hate that suppose to be protecting God. Trust me, with the hate that you have typed, God is more upset with you than Jamie Foxx. It was silly and unbecoming gloating. Plain and simple.

Jamie Foxx is a bright and talented man, but he was preaching to the choir. He stooped to the level of those who wear Obama tee shirts now, but couldn’t spell the word “politics” five years ago and wouldn’t know the Speaker of the House from the Watkins man.

I was not going to comment but these racist comments is about all I can stand and some of your are just Plain clueless.

First of all,

Jamie is not the first to make an assine statement nor will it be the last assine statement made by Jamie among others.
Its apparent some of you were either not born, living under a rock, or turned a deaf ear when John Lennon at the height of the beatlemania(1965?) said that “The Beatles are more popular than Jesus” another assine statement. However, there was a backlash with folks burning their Lps. I myself was old enough to understand what he said but did not take it personal because I
Know who my lord and Savior is and I was only a 9yrs old back in 1965. I continued to Listen to the Beatles and like their music. I didnt get upset because there was no Need to if you Know who the Lord is.

So for you idoits that think Jamie is the only one to make such a statement Please do a little research. For you on here saying that Jamie said that because hes black well what about John Lennon who is white who compared the Beatles being more popular or bigger than Jesus?

Artists are going to speak their minds and give their opinions. That does not mean you have to support them. Personally I dont care for Jamie Foxx. and yes I am black nor did I vote for obama(actually I didnt vote for no one on this election), so what does that make me non black?

Most of you been griping since Obama was re-elected wimpering and crying like new born infants.
My only beef with Jamie is for saying such a assine statement only fueling more wimpering and crying from the folks that are upset because we have four more years of Obama.

Last but not Lease to you Holy folks.
If you know who your lord and savior is why are you offended because someone calls a mere mortal man their lord and savior? I only have ONE LORD, and ONE SAVIOR. and he definately is not a mortal man. I already know this, so why would I be offended?
. Unless I have No faith in the one true God. If you were upset because of what Jamie said, then clearly you Have No faith in the true Savior. Some of you are not as Saved as you claim to be if you get upset because some fool called a mere mortal his lord and savior..Please give me a break

Jamie Foxx’s statement went beyond poor taste, it was sacrilegious and insensitive to Christian’s from all backgrounds. He meant the statement as a joke, he is known for being edgy and pushing the envelope, this just went too far… just like all the posted comments that have gone from a comedian’s poor choice of words to an indictment on an entire racial group.

I am a born-again, spirit filled Christian that is African American, female, a registered Democrat and I voted for President Obama in the election, not because of his race (which is white and black), but because of his economic policies that I think will do more for the poor and middle class than Governor Romney’s. Why some of you think I am a heretic and un-Christ-like for doing so is beyond me.

Additionally, Foxx made these comments not President Obama. For years I have supported candidates that I did not share the same demographics with on the basis of them being the best person for the job of those to choose from. It is amazing to me that so many people are characterizing the President as an antichrist or evil or several things I can not repeat because of his race. The same policies he has are not new… other presidents have done the same types of things… why then is President Obama so WRONG? The answer… you folks are being racist. Please stop it. Please don’t teach this to OUR children. Please repent. You worry for Foxx’s soul (and we should pray for him) but you need to start with prayers for yourself.

The Bible says, “Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess Jesus Christ is Lord.” But at this time it will be too late. I pray for Barak Obama every day. My prayer is he will confess his sins and recognize that Jesus is Lord and will try to become the kind of president God would want him to be. But if he did that, he would win the love an support of all Christians but he would be thrown out by the people, because the world is given up unto their own lust and sins.
I find it hard for a person to profess to being a Christian but yet, not honoring the Holy Bible. Example: Gay marriage, abortion. I would never vote for anyone that approves of either one of these. I believe we should take care of the poor and sick and downtrodden, but no where does it say in the Bible that these two sins are accetable in God’s eyes. The world thinks when a Christian takes this stance he is being intolerable of the world, and quite frankly they are right. But a lot of supposedly “Christians” don’t want to offend anyone. I truly do look forward to the date when the rapture takes place or God takes me home, but in the meanwhile I must share the word, fight the good fight and live as though today could be my last.

Thus says The Lord: Did you think My wrath would tarry forever?! Did you think My judgment sleeps?! Are My eyes closed to all these atrocities committed upon the earth, day and night, without ceasing?! Are My ears also stopped from hearing?!… Lo, I have seen and I have heard!

My face draws near to this earth!…

My eyes are filled with fire and fury!…

My forehead wrinkles, and is set hard against you,
O inhabitants of the earth!…

For it is time!

It is time to shake the cities of men by measure, and to bring up wrath from beneath! City by city shall be punished… One here and another there. Behold, it shall come upon them suddenly, and men shall fear, and with great perplexity shall their hearts fail!… A great trembling shall now come upon all people!…

THE TERROR OF THE LORD IS AT HAND!…

It shall come in swiftly, and you shall not know from where it shall come!
It shall come upon city after city, without warning!

For I have caused the earth to become angry. Lo, the depths of the earth tremble at My nearness, and soon this planet shall rage!… It shall rage against you, O deceitful generation! It shall devour and consume this generation!… Scouring from the earth all man has made!
The Scriptures do not lie! And My prophets speak, yet the people refuse to hear!… They will not listen. Even My own people will not believe, yet their belief is not at all required… For My will is set, and can in no wise be turned back! The truth of My Word stands! It speaks throughout the generations and echoes throughout eternity!…

For I AM THE LORD!… YaHuWaH!…I am EL Shaddai!…And I shall surely perform all I have spoken.

I shall not cease, nor relent, nor shall I be turned back from My purpose!… The kingdoms of men must die! And the evil of men must be destroyed!… All must be wiped away!

Peoples of the earth, you have hated life!

You have polluted MY garden!

DISEASED AND AWFUL GENERATION,
YOU HAVE DESTROYED THE GARDEN!…

And so I am come to cleanse! And to wipe away!…

I am come down!…

MY FACE IS VERY NEAR!

Do you feel the heat of My wrath, O ignorant and vain peoples?!… You retain no knowledge at all! Only greed and wickedness, wickedness upon wickedness, passes before your eyes without ceasing… And oh how you love to have it so!
DEAD GENERATION! Your hearts are stone!… Day after day you build up wrath, the vessels overflow! Day by day, the bodies are stacked up in heaps! Day by day, the unborn are slaughtered!… Whole generations of people murdered without cause! Multitudes of innocent cast off as refuse!… Yet you think Me too harsh, and My punishments too severe, My judgments unfair?!

I AM THE LORD, AND THIS IS MY EARTH!
THESE ARE MY CHILDREN!…

All you see, from the ground beneath your feet
To the farthest reaches of the universe, is MINE!…

And I shall do as I please!

I shall do according to the counsel of My own will…

For I am God!

Therefore, O peoples of the earth, because you have slaughtered the innocent and murdered your neighbor… Lo, you have even made for yourselves laws, that all may do their pleasure in unrighteousness and perform evil at their leisure… So then shall I also declare MY Law, and it shall fall hard upon the backs of all nations!
Yea, I have put forth the decree, and hasten to carry out your sentences, O peoples of the earth! And what is the sentence, you ask?… Look upon the slaughtered innocent, look upon their torn and broken bodies… Behold how they are torn in pieces! See how their blood pours down and their limbs are strewn about!… LOOK!!! Look how they are scraped out of their mother’s womb!… Look upon the works of your hands, you evil and most wicked generation!… LOOK UPON YOUR WICKEDNESS!!! LOOK UPON ALL YOU HAVE DONE!

THE TIME HAS COME!

Hear the WORD of the LORD spoken to THIS modern generation!

I normally don’t get involved in these comments, but as a Christian I must stand for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I don’t know the intent of Mr. Foxx’s comment, but this is false. First, President Obama, while he does hold the highest office in this country, is still just a man; a sinner, just like Mr. Foxx, myself, and every other person alive on this earth today. The Lord God has placed Obama in his position according to His will. The word of God teaches that there is no authority, no position, no principality, no ruler, no president, above Almighty God. Secondly, the bible tells us that in order for our sinfulness to be redeemed, a sacrifice had to be made. Almighty God humbled Himself, to be born of a virgin, in flesh and blood, to live and walk among us a a human in order to reveal to us all the nature of God, in His Son Jesus Christ to pay our sin debt in full at the cross at Calvary. He was mocked, ridiculed, hated by those He was sent to save, punished, tortured, beaten, slapped, spit on, and nailed to the cross to atone for every sin you and I commit (past, present, and future) in order that we could become redeemed, righteous, adopted sons and daughters in God’s kingdom. Such a high price that Christ paid for us all should never be mocked, or joked about. Lastly, I do not judge Mr. Foxx for his comments, but I would ask every Christian to join with me in praying for him that God would press upon Mr. Foxx’s heart for him to seek forgiveness and repent for his comment.

Jamie Foxx recently said, at the Soul Train Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, “It’s like church in here. First of all, giving honor to God, and our Lord and Savior, Barack Obama. Barack Obama! Y’all stand up!”

COMEDIAN OR NOT, Jamie Foxx perhaps has reached the lowest possible disrespectful sacrilegious/blasphemous level, to even suggest IN ANY WAY that Obama deserves to be honored with God Himself and Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (from Webster: sacrilegious, “Grossly irreverent toward what is or is held to be sacred.”; blasphemy, “The act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence or respect for God.”) For this ignorant (or worse) “golden calf” type worship of Obama, and the extremely bad example it represents to others, Foxx deserves at least the reprimand and extreme disrespect of ALL Christians. GOD DESERVES SO MUCH MORE REVERENCE THAN THAT!! FOXX PERHAPS SHOULD ASK HIMSELF, “WHY IT IS SO EASY FOR ME TO TREAT GOD SO FLIPPANTLY?” There is certainly NO excuse that is acceptable to God! The very first Commandment is: “…Thou shall not have strange gods before Me.” It is safe to assume God means JOKING OR NOT!!! The third Commandment: “Thou shall not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain” (i.e. to be worthless). I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE SUPPORTING JAMIE FOXX IN ANY WAY FROM NOW ON!! He deserves this minimal type of reprimand from ALL Christians!! God and Christians deserve his sincere apology!! Despite any such forthcoming apology, he deserves such punishment in this world. PERHAPS that will save him from deserved punishment in the next world. Foxx has shown that he has no REAL respect for God! May he come to realize that THIS IS NO JOKE!!

Well, I dis-agree with u folks: Jesus Christ, is and always will be, Our Lord and Saviour. This is not a joke to Christians, and certainly not a joke, to our God, which is in heaven. He’s not laughing, Jamie Foxx needs to get saved.

This is sickening! There is not even the slightest bit of of good in Oblama that you could even begin to start comparing him to our savior. Seriously now, this is the man that has wiped his butt with our constitution and yet these Hollywood idiots are supporting him. Utterly amazing. It just goes to show you how truly ignorant they are. I for one will not support these actors/artists. I still cant see why Oblama got a peace prize just weeks after coming into office. Talk about media butt kissing and payoffs!

Jamie I know you were a little excited about the show, adrenalin goin’ and all…but I know you know better than that in what you said, about praising Obama, we are praying for Obama, not praising him, you know we don’t praise but One person and that is Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, One God!! I know you know better, being that you grew up in the church with your grandmother, and she would be sad to know that you have people praising a man, I understand you were excited and all about being out and around that night, but please don’t confuse God and man, God is supreme ok?
