Jamie Foxx praises President Obama as “our Lord and savior”
Actor Jamie Foxx hailed President Barack Obama as “our Lord and savior” at the Soul Train Awards, which aired over the weekend but was taped in Las Vegas shortly after the 2012 election.
“It’s like church in here. First of all, giving honor to God, and our Lord and savior, Barack Obama,” he said to the jubilant crowd. Amid their thundering cheers he repeated, “Barack Obama! Y’all stand up!”
Foxx’s adulation is making the rounds on the blogosphere and on talk radio, and prompted a response from the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights in the United States.
“Foxx’s epiphany is startling,” league president Bill Donahue said in a statement. “It just goes to show that even though Obama did not succeed in stopping the oceans from rising (as he promised to do in 2008), he did succeed in convincing Jamie Foxx, and no doubt legions of others, that God exists. Whether God can survive an ACLU lawsuit accusing him of violating church and state grounds remains to be seen.”

Peace – that’s an interesting name. No – actually I’m reminded EVERY SINGLE DAY how “angry” you all are – even though all of this happened hundreds of years before any of our time. I have many black friends and none of them act like the majority of you – which is you feel like you are “OWED” something. Get over yourself. Why don’t you look at the statistics of who commits more violent crime – young black males. Personally, that makes me sad. Their mothers are having children when they have no business doing so, because they are just thrown away in society.

I can’t believe this actually made the news and how it was so misconstrued or interpreted. For the majority of folks who actually watched it or even if you didn’t and are familiar with Jamie Foxx, you would clearly realize it was a joke! And the irony with all of it is that he was making a mockery in some regards of how some black folks hold President Obama in such high regards, you would think he was their Lord and Savior.

But now that we have a president whose skin is darker than the “good ole boy” skin, but is of mixed race (white mother), it seems that people can’t hold it in any longer. Jamie Foxx has garnered huge success as a recording artist and an A-list Hollywood actor but he cut his teeth doing stand-up – he’s a very talented stand-up comedian – his material is oftentimes controversial and cutting edge – his Obama Lord and Savior JOKE is proof of that – I used to see him all the time at Comedy Act Theater at the corner of 8th and Peach back in the 90’s

SouthRed, the problem is not that television is desenitizing our morality, it’s that people of faith like myself and (assume) you haven’t done a good enough job being an example of our faith and why we should have morals. Instead, we allow politicians and special interests groups to hijack our faith and make a mockery of it. We also spend more time condemning and criticizing from afar, instead of evangelizing face to face. Do you really expect people to follow and listen to Christians who pick and choose which morals to throw in people’s faces?? We’ve got to do a better job of being consistent and showing unconditional love for ALL people.
