Whitney Houston’s family and friends have a new show of their own airing on Lifetime soon.

The channel just released a photo gallery to promote the show, which launches at 9 p.m. Oct. 24. (Photos by Jill Greenberg, courtesy of Lifetime).

The new show, called “The Houstons: On Our Own,” is billed as a “docu-series.”

A bulletin from Lifetime says the show kicks off  with ”back to back episodes will chronicle those closest to the pop music icon which includes her daughter Bobbi Kristina (also known as Krissy), 19; Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager; Whitney’s brother and Pat’s husband Gary Houston, their daughter Rayah Houston, 14; Grammy Award-winning singer Cissy Houston, Whitney and Gary’s mother and the family matriarch; and family friend, Nick Gordon, 22.”

Whew! It is helpful to have that family tree to keep everyone straight!

Susan Sarandon signed onto “Cloud Atlas” without immediately knowing which part she would play. Turns out she played four.

“I thought, this is going to be so much fun,” she told us during a phone interview to discuss the film, due for an Oct. 26 release date. “They found actors who were willing to do something relatively experimental. Everybody who was part of it had a certain lack of ego, and daring confidence.”

Filmmakers Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski rendered the sweeping film from author David Mitchell’s bestselling novel – a feat of artistic heroics given the book’s complex, time-traveling structure. (”It might be possible to write a novel more unfilmable than David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, but you would have to work at it,” the New York Times observed).

Sarandon was never …

Interview: Ava DuVernay discusses “Middle of Nowhere”

Oprah Winfrey loves the movie “Middle of Nowhere.” It was showered with praise at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the best director award for 2012. And it opens Friday in Atlanta.

“It’s been really beautiful,” director Ava DuVernay, the first black woman to ever win best director honors at Sundance. “The film is just this little jewel.”

Starring Omari Hardwick, David Oyelowo and Emayatzy Corinealdi, “Middle of Nowhere” is a powerful drama about confinement – literal and figurative. A medical student drops out of school when her husband goes to prison. The intimate camera work suggests that the prisoner is not the only one who seems trapped in a cell.

“I’m really interested in showing nuance,” DuVernay said. “I’m not seeing enough images of women deep in thought.

We’re trying to make something that sticks to your bones. Films are constructed by real moments. We are making this for this reason, to evoke feeling.”

“Real Housewife” NeNe Leakes selling her clothes on eBay

NeNe Leakes' dress could be yours!

NeNe Leakes' dress could be yours!

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member NeNe Leakes is giving you an opportunity to be as fashionable as she is – by selling some of her clothes on eBay.

“I love fashion and I am asked that famous Red Carpet question all the time, ‘Who are you wearing? All of the Top Designers, of course, Hunni,” Leakes said in a message posted on her web site. “Now I want to share these beautiful clothes with you. So, now I’m opening my closet for you to take a ‘peek’ and if you see something you like, it could very well be yours.”

She is apparently new to the online auction site; there is a “0″ next to her screen name indicating she has not bought or sold anything yet. She bills her eBay offerings as “new and gently worn.”

The photo on the right shows one of the dresses she is now selling. She appears to be wearing the dress in a photo posted on the cocoperez.com site and sheknows.com site, that is credited to Ivan Nikolov of WENN.com.

Leakes is also …

“Second Generation Wayans” seeks “stripper types”

pole_dancer“Second Generation Wayans,” a new BET show now filming in Atlanta, needs “stripper types” to serve as extras.

Not strippers, mind you. Just “stripper types.” You need to be comfortable strutting around in your underwear. They need at least one person “with a large booty” and it goes without saying that you  ”must be super hot.”

BET describes the new show thusly:

Craig Wayans and Damien Dante Wayans come from America’s first family of comedy. Their co-star George Gore II is best known for his role as Big Head Junior in Damon Wayans’ sitcom My Wife & Kids. ‘Second Generation Wayans’ is a hilarious, new, scripted family comedy. However, as it turns out, being a Wayans isn’t all fun and games. Viewers see the good, the funny and the ugly as the young trio emerges from the long shadows of their aunts and uncles to carve out their own paths to stardom.”

My colleague Rodney Ho wrote about it the other day. Details here.

So, if your super hot, and/or big-booty self is interested in …

Interview: Ben Affleck discusses “Argo”

Actor-director Ben Affleck in a movie still from "Argo," based on true events.

“You could never imagine it happening,” actor-director Ben Affleck said of the true but hard-to-believe plot of his new movie “Argo.”

The tense thriller tells the story of Americans who were spirited out of Iran following the 1979 revolution by a CIA operative posing as a filmmaker. “Argo” is the name of the fake film that was never made, but that provided the cover necessary for the escape.

“I hope people leave with a sense of national pride,” Affleck told us during a phone interview to discuss the movie, which is getting excellent reviews and generating Oscar buzz. “It’s important to remember as Americans: sometimes we do do it right. Sometimes we do get it right. It’s a pretty great place.”

In the movie Affleck plays Tony Mendez, who revealed details of the daring operation in his 2000 memoir “The Master of Disguise: My Secret Life in the CIA,” after the matter was declassified.

“It’s a tribute …

Bobbi Kristina announces engagement in reality show promo

A new show about the late Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina and other family members rolls out on Lifetime Oct. 24.

In a video clip posted to promote the show, called “The Houstons: On Our Own,” Bobbi Kristina reveals that she and beau Nick Gordon plan to marry.

“We’re engaged,” she giggles at one point during a family meal. Her relatives do not seem thrilled. Last month, TMZ reported that the two were in a car wreck in Alpharetta, although the Alpharetta police department pointedly did not confirm all aspects of the report. They did provide a copy of the incident report though. You can see it here.

And you can click this link to see the video in which Bobbi Kristina says she is engaged.

Bobbi Kristina headed to Atlanta not long after her mom died earlier this year, and has been in front of the camera a number of times. She worked with Tyler Perry on some episodes of his show “For Better or Worse” and appeared with family members in an interview with Oprah …
