A cop movie called “Ride Along,” starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and John Leguizamo, is filming at Underground Atlanta this week.
The scenes being filmed at Underground evidently involve some level of disagreement. The Atlanta Police Department alerted the media with the following:
“On Wednesday and Thursday there will be a movie filming at Underground Atlanta. On both of those days there will be a simulated gun battle inside the mall area. Most of the gunfire will be on Thursday. There are signs posted in the area advising citizens of the filming and off-duty Atlanta Police Officers will be at Underground for this event.”
More details as we learn more!

Atlanta is a great city and has many great backdrops for movie productions. The film industry can be a moneymaker for the city.

I hope the simulated gun battle doesn’t get in the way of the usual gun battles at Underground.

If the movie is supposed to take place in an abandoned shopping center, the scene is already set…

Why would anyone shoot at Underground? It’s a decrepit, awful, depressing place. Can someone please turn it into a casino or something useful? Definitely not digging the latest incarnation, the arcade.

“…in an effort to the couple’s relationship.” Once again, stellar grammar by the fine bunch at the AJC where, clearly, the only qualification needed for a job is the ability to fog a mirror.

@ dan Underground Atlanta is a historical place in Atlanta go back to your history books. If it is so depressing to you, why don’t you put the money up to to turn it into something else. Us Atlantians that were born and raised here are glad and proud of our beautiful city and hope more producers are willing to work in our great city. Thanks ICE CUBE make it a great one.

atlcitygirl.. Seems you and your Atlantians weren’t too proud to patronize and keep Underground productive and beautiful. As for Ice Cube, the man that yelled “Vote Black” while leaving the stage of an awards show, he needs to stay out of Atlanta, that kind of mentality is what is wrong with Atlanta now.

They could leave off the word “simulated” and it could be a standard sign posted outside Underground Atlanta. I probably will not see a stupid movie like this.

Simulated gun battle?? Why put up a notice about that? Aren’t gunfights in that area commonplace any way? This movie sounds Oscar worthy……starring some guy with the first name of ‘Ice’ and last name ‘Cube’. What is the world coming to?

AJC needs to block comments on more of these articles. Too many ignorant posters that have nothing better to do than to criticize and promote racial stereotypes. It is truly said how many people prefer to be divisive than to do anything positive.

Good to see underground used for something. As for the people trying to fool themselves and act like underground is some kind of treasure of the city, you are part of the problem.

Underground used to be a really unique place back in the 70’s. It looks more like an underground mall now. Lost it’s personality a long time ago.

Hollywood East (HE). I like it too. Bring more jobs and revenues. Just last week at my office building, a movie was being filmed about the life of Anna Nicole Smith. It was being Filmed at New York Prime Restuarant.

Underground is by far the biggest blight in downtown Atlanta today. Such a sad place that definately needs a transformation and the City needs to stop funding.
