Clint Eastwood stars in new pro-Romney ad

Clint Eastwood, who made headlines by addressing an empty chair during the 2012 Republican National Convention, stars in a new political ad urging support for GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

Eastwood’s unorthodox performance at the convention spurred a raft of satirical commentary and happened to coincide with the release of “Trouble With the Curve,” the baseball-themed movie he filmed in and around Atlanta.

“The Democrats who were watching thought I was going senile and the Republicans knew I was. It was actually just trying to enjoy myself along the way,” Eastwood told Ellen DeGeneres during a visit to her show. He was there ostensibly to promote the movie but of course was asked about the chair routine.

Shortly after the GOP convention someone started a Twitter account called “Invisible Obama” to riff off the headline-grabbing event. That in turn inspired the “Obama’s Seat” account.

No empty chairs appear in the new Eastwood ad though. Here it is:

I thank God for men such as Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and men like Clint Eastwood who
speak boldly and are not afraid! You know when Clint Eastwood spoke at the Republican
Convention to an empty chair, well that chair has been empty for quite sometime,
President Obama has been invisible! Where was he when the Americans were being killed
over seas? he was the invisible man in that chair, when his own men were killed, or was it his
own men? Could it be that maybe Donald Trump is right? And that he really might not be a true
American…Something to think about…
