Steak Shapiro launches new dining show

Steak and Fry

Steak and Fry

Longtime Atlanta sports broadcaster Steak Shapiro is sinking his teeth into a new venture: a dining show. (We hear it’ll be filming at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marietta’s Chicken and the Egg. The restaurant invites anyone who’d like to check out the filming to stop by!)

“I have two major passions – sports and food,” he said. “I think a lot of people intersect on those. The city is blowing up with restaurants, celebrity chefs, reality shows. We’re a huge dining-out town. People talk about it, blog about it.”

And now, he’s producing a show about it. “Atlanta Eats” launches this weekend and you have plenty of opportunities to check it out. The show will air at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays on Peachtree TV and at noon on CBS Atlanta. If you miss it on TV he’ll follow up with radio spots at 6:40 a.m. on Tuesdays on Star 94, and the content is also available online here.

Tom Wolfe said restaurants are theater in Atlanta,” Shapiro said, referring to to the author of the Atlanta-based novel “A Man in Full.”

His new show will feature hot spots like The Optimist, just named “Restaurant of the Year” by Esquire magazine (Steak and The Optimist’s Ford Fry are shown together in this photo above) but also casual places like OTP barbecue joints.

“The big word we’re using is approachable,” he said. “What I don’t want to do is make this show about me going to fancy restaurants. It can’t just be a tour of Buckhead. This should be like, Steak’s my buddy. If you love to eat, this is the show, website, radio show telling you where you need to be eating.”

Here’s a video clip to whet your appetite!

Thanks to those of you who watched the show and did not use this forum for the proverbial Steak bashing session. You can say a lot about the show and have your opinions about me but to talk about the shoddy production value is not fair. The one consistent is that this will have great production value throughout. Tomorrow Pictures has done a great job for us. First time I ever posted here and yes this is Steak, I urge you to check out AtlantaEats.com and tell me what you think of the quality of the show. As for the Steak hammering, comes with the territory as does changing your moniker to say the same things about me and make it look like all different folks. Hope Monday is a great day for you……Thanks to Jennifer for the nice piece.

Steak, if you weren’t so obnoxious, nobody would feel the need to bash you. Try some humility for a change. It’s not all about YOU.

Steven, thou shalt pay for your meals and not seek free food. Unless its bacon or barbecue.
