On Whitney Houston’s birthday, a look at her last movie

On what would have been Whitney Houston’s 49th  birthday, TriStar Pictures is honoring her memory by encouraging folks to check out the trailer for her final film. “Sparkle” comes out Aug. 17. (By the way here’s a link to the story about BeBe Winans’ book about her).

The trailer, which has actually been out for a while, includes a few moments that seem eerily prophetic.

“Was my life not enough a cautionary tale for you?” Houston’s character asks at one point. She stars as the mom of three daughters who start a Motown girls’ group.

Houston’s character is a former singer wary of the perils of showbiz. She sings “His Eye is On the Sparrow,” which is sure to be a moving moment on the big screen and seems destined for an iTunes release as a single.

Here is the trailer:

Whitney Houston, by far the most gifted vocalist ever in popular music, very deeply touched the hearts and stirred the souls of millions around the world. Whitney’s songs are beautiful, timeless and have a meaningful message; her pure, powerful yet angelic voice conveys heartfelt emotion. Whitney wore other hats, such as that of movie producer, actress and she was also a great philanthropist. She had a good heart and spread love. She lives on through her musical legacy

Why does America put druggies on pedestals? We cherish these people who have it all then blow it all (pun intended) doing lines of coke and taking drug. Whitney Houston should be remembered as a drug addict who had a problem, this way other drug addicts can see it resulted in her death – and maybe they will shape up. People in America LOVE to glorify dumb people and it is pathetic. Honor birthdays of troops overseas doing something worthwhile with their lives to protect ours – rather than honor drug addicts who are worthless.

JB, although Ms. Houston had her own personal struggles–as all of us have in one form or another– it was her gift of music that gave so many people joy. It is unproductive to focus on the negative-and remember her for what was positve–that beautiful voice. We are not glorifying her struggles, but mereley honoring a gifted and talented songstress that merely lost her way…

@ JB why should God forgive you for your sins, since you can’t forgive Ms. Whitney Houston.
Ms. Whitney Houston was forgiven for her sins and now she is rejoicing in the prescence of God in heaven. Drugs are past sins can not stop the blood of Jesus from cleansing us and making us righteous.
Regardless of drugs, liers, cheaters, adulterers……etc. God can make us clean and white as snow.

JB if you continue to be critical over people past sins and mistakes; you are only bringing judgment on yourself and you will block God’s forgiveness for yourself.

JB, let’s not judge. That is up to God and I am sure Whitney’s struggles were forgiven. Not only was Whitney a great performer but also a great human being. Let’s focus on those things and not what struggles she went through – we didn’t live her life, therefore we should not judge her. Miss you Whitney!!!!!

I liked her music, I actually listen to it more now than when she was living. Perhaps because it is more meanngful now that she is gone. Beautiful voice, but I don’t be;lieve she was “The Voice” so many other artists have had beautiful and unique voces, Patti Labelle, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey just to name a few. Whitney was an addict. Too bad she could not find the strength even though so many loved her, to quit for good. But I believe cocaine is a powerful powerful drug and we shouldn’t put her down. Because it is only by the Grace of God that we did not follow that path ourselves. Satan is busy. May her soul rest in heavenly peace.

Ms.Lauren the real reason she is call the voice because she make her voice go three different notes were all the singer u call out don’t it’s only Mariah Carey is the only one come close. Whitney voice was was the kind of voice that make u feel it and touch u in a way the others don’t.

Some of you maybe to learn toknow but Whitney Houston ’s vocals were considered the best for many years. She had so much success that Mariah Carey, celine dion, Christina Auguilera, Jennifr Hudson, Monica, Brandy and many others attempted to copy the style of singing. Unfortunately she had a tragic ending and her voice was diminished near the end. However, there is no denying that at one point she was considerd the music industry’s best when it came to singing. She was able to give a polished soulful yet pop delivery. Accompany that with great range and physical beauty to matcj she will always be considerd the best. No other africa femail has come close to her album sells, that includes Beyonce or Janet Jackson. check the RIAA statistics and you will see that I am providing you with facts. Whitney Houston is the most decorated female artis in history meaning more global awards than anyone. she has the most consecutive #1 singles, beating out the Beatles. She also has the largest selling soundtrack and at one time the largest selling CD and debut album. She is the only female to have two albums to reach diamond status via RIAA. She is the first female to debut #1 on the album charts. These are all facts. She was named the Voice by muscc industry greats. She did not give this name to herself. Sure her life reached some low points but she was still great. Do not be so quick to put others down. let’s see if life gives some of you a low blow how you like it if people speak badly of you. I hope it does not happen but try and deal with such scrutiny and see if you like it. we should be championing the pioneers in the african-american community such as the Willimas sisters Venus & Serena, Gabby Douglass, and etc opposed to writing mean unspirited nasty comments. check yourself first before you dismiss others.

I agree 1000% with JB. These celebrities that had it all. Blessed with a God given talent, money, fame, and the adoration of millions. Yet you choose drugs? And the drugs eventually causes your demise. I don’t feel sorry one bit. She had it all but chose drugs. Right on JB!!
