Photo from Reese Witherspoon movie set

ReeseReese Witherspoon’s been in Atlanta for a while now filming “Devil’s Knot,” co-starring Colin Firth.

The movie, based on the true-crime book about a sensational murder case in West Memphis, Ark., has been filming at the old courthouse in Cartersville. She is shown here at the right outside the courthouse. Thanks to Leigh Ann Bergherm for taking this photo and to Brent Bergherm for sending it!

We’re told “Devil’s Knot” will shoot at a restaurant on Cheshire Bridge Road later this week. (Popular filming spot, Cheshire Bridge Road. “ID Theft” wrapped a few scenes there recently).

In their down time Witherspoon and Firth have gotten to enjoy some of Atlanta’s dining scene. They and some colleagues had dinner at Canoe on Sunday and each has been spotted at Watershed’s new Peachtree Street location. Before that Witherspoon was seen at a number of other spots, too. Details here.

Jane Fonda and Ted Turner to share Atlanta stage

AJC file photo

Jane Fonda has often called Ted Turner her “favorite ex-husband,” and this fall the amicable former spouses will share a stage for charity.

The Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, which Fonda founded, plans a cocktail reception followed by a seated dinner to be held Oct. 4 at the Georgia Aquarium. During the event Fonda will present Turner with the “Big Thinker Award” in honor of his philanthropic and entrepreneurial activities over the years.

In a statement Fonda said Turner was the “impetus and inspiration for starting G-CAPP. His global vision, activism and extraordinary generosity have been, since the very beginning in 1995, integral to G-CAPP’s progress in breaking the cycle of teenage pregnancy and its effect as a barrier to advancement in life.”

The event is being co-chaired by Caroline and Jeff Tucker and Kate and Jim Denny.

The party host committee is being chaired by Carolyn Carr and Nina Cheney, and host committee members …

Harrison Ford spotted here and there

FordHarrison Ford has been in Atlanta working on “42,” the movie about Jackie Robinson.

We’re told he’s dined a couple of times at Bacchanalia, and that he had dinner at Aja on Friday. He also visited Sushi House Hayakawa, at 5979 Buford Hwy NE # A10.

While there he posed for some nice photos including this one at the right. To see more and to check out the restaurant’s menu see their web site at this link.

“42,” in which Ford plays Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who signed the great Robinson, filmed in Chattanooga, Birmingham and Macon before heading to Atlanta. Here, filming sites have included the Biltmore in Midtown, which will be portrayed as the 1940s era Waldorf Astoria for the movie. Ford’s done working on this project, but shooting continues through Thursday, we’re told.

Bravo! Viral essayist Kelly Beaty and Lovette Russell get together

Kelly Beaty, left, and her new friend Lovette Russell

Kelly Beaty, left, and her new friend Lovette Russell

Metro Atlanta native Kelly Beaty set the Twit- and blogosphere on fire a couple of weeks ago with her archly worded essay skewering locally based reality shows for their portrayal of black Atlantans.

Her piece, “Will the Real Black People of Atlanta Please Stand Up?,” suggested that instead of the drama queens shown scrapping and fussing on shows like “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,” producers might consider personalities such as philanthropist Lovette Russell. “I’ve never met her, but I’d bet she’s brimming with reality-worthy one-liners and sound bites,” Beaty wrote.

On Thursday, she and Russell met for the first time. As you might imagine, they hit it off immediately.

“I can tell we are both strong, confident women,” Russell said. “We think along the same lines.”

Beaty, a past contestant on “The Apprentice” who now lives in New York, was home for the Independence Day holiday. She and her …

Star sightings: Colin Firth, Owen Wilson, Stephen Moyer

watershedColin Firth and I have something in common: We’ve both dined at Atlanta’s Watershed restaurant in the past 24 hours. That’s pretty much where the similarities end, of course.

The Oscar-winning actor honored for his lead role in the Oscar-winning movie “The King’s Speech” is now in Atlanta filming “Devil’s Knot,” also starring Reese Witherspoon.

He supped at Watershed Wednesday night, as did Rex Linn of “CSI: Miami” and “Walking Dead” note and “True Blood” actor Stephen Moyer.

I happened by there earlier today and would like to award Watershed the Oscar for Best Use of a Sink, as you can tell from the photo above.

In other star-sighting news, Owen Wilson and some buds had dinner at Ecco Tuesday night. He’s here filming “The Internship,” also starring Vince Vaughn.

Video: Trailer of “Steel Magnolias” remake

Atlanta’s Kenny Leon directed a remake of “Steel Magnolias,” to air this fall on Lifetime.

The modern version, which filmed in Atlanta earlier this year, stars Queen Latifah as M’Lynn, the role Sally Field played in the original film. Alfre Woodard plays Ouiser (as Shirley MacLaine did in the original), Phylicia Rashad plays Clairee (Olympia Dukakis in the original film), Jill Scott plays Truvy (Dolly Parton’s former role), Adepero Oduye plays Annelle (Daryl Hannah in the original film) and Condola Rashad stars as Shelby (Julia Roberts in the original film).

Here’s an early look at the project. How do you think it will stack up against the original?

Reese Witherspoon movie filming in Cartersville

We Methodists are welcoming people.

We Methodists are welcoming people.

Reese Witherspoon’s movie “Devil’s Knot” will be filming at the old courthouse in downtown Cartersville for the next couple of weeks.

Friendly folks up there in Cartersville. My fellow Methodists evidently have invited Witherspoon and co-star Colin Firth to join them in worship this Sunday. Someone sent me this photo at the right.

“Devil’s Knot” is based on the true-crime book about a sensational murder case in West Memphis, Ark.

An on-set source says Witherspoon is very nice to work with and is keeping her cool despite  being pregnant in this heat. The mom of two is expecting Baby #3.

By the way here’s an exciting update: Witherspoon just stopped for gas at an East Cobb Shell station.

“I was the only one around, then here comes Reese Witherspoon,” a tipster reports. “I recognized her immediately then did a brain check to remember that, yes, she’s in town filming. She hops out of the small silver SUV (it appeared that her daughter Ava was …

Former Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick marries

AP photo

AP photo

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is a married man.

Our source: current Atlanta Falcons player Roddy White.

“Just left @MikeVick wedding,” White tweeted on Sunday, the day after the Miami event. “It was beautiful and he didn’t break a sweat. He was ready and congrats to him. He will be a good husband.”

Vick’s Twitter feed references his recent nuptials, too. In response to a tweet from a guest thanking him for the invitation to the ceremony he posted, “Glad you enjoyed it lil bruh.”

Philly.com posted this story about Vick’s marriage to longtime girlfriend Kijafa Frink. Vick is now a Philadelphia Eagle.

Miami-based Gossipextra.com posted this story with details and photos from the lavish event.

The former Atlanta athlete hasn’t said too much more on Twitter, but did post a one-word wrap-up: “#blessed.”

Star sightings: Reese Witherspoon, Harrison Ford, One Direction

Reese Witherspoon, Harrison Ford and members of the boy band One Direction all have been spotted out and about in Atlanta in recent days.

Witherspoon just got to town to work on the film “Devil’s Knot,” also starring Colin Firth. She dined at Bistro Niko on Saturday and the Atlanta Fish Market on Sunday.

“She was with her husband and two children, with no makeup, hair up in a ponytail and sweats,” said our well-placed source, a person with direct knowledge of the encounter. “She was very sweet, and when she came up to the hostess stand, she said ‘Hey y’all.’ She was placed at a very private table, and one that had the AC cranking. She was really appreciative of that.”

Witherspoon is expecting Baby #3. Imagine being pregnant in this heat!

Also checking out the Atlanta Fish Market recently: the Brit-Irish band One Direction, in town last week to perform at the Gwinnett Arena (here’s a review of their show), and Jewel, who’s in Atlanta working on the Lifetime movie “Ring …
