Owen Wilson-Vince Vaughn movie “The Internship” to film at Georgia Tech

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn’s movie “The Internship” now shooting in Atlanta will soon be filming at Georgia Tech, the college web site reports.

The movie, which also has filmed scenes downtown and in Midtown, is a comedy about guys who get downsized and then start their careers over at the bottom rung. They evidently make the most of their downtime along the way; we’ve seen casting calls looking for extras for a “Gentlemen’s Club” scene this week.

Anyway, the Georgia Tech notice says “Filming will take place at the following locations: Campus Recreation Center, Ford Environmental Science and Technology Building, G. Wayne Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, Klaus Advanced Computing Building, Leadership Challenge Course, Noonan Courtyard and the Marcus Nanotechnology Building.”

Students, faculty and staff will have access to their offices and dorms but some disruption is possible, given all the gear involved when a production sets up shop. “The Clough Commons Starbucks location is projected to be closed Aug. 7-9 with controlled access possible Aug. 3-19,” the Georgia Tech notice says.

Wilson’s been spotted around town quite a bit since arriving to film “The Internship.” Tipsters have reported seeing him at Lure, Ecco, the Optimist, No. 246 and Empire State South. Also, he’s been spotted riding his bike around town. Not too many Vince Vaughn sightings, although someone did see him buying juice at the Buckhead Whole Foods. Those wild and crazy Hollywood types…

Perhaps the next crime movie can be filmed on the UGA campus. If they need extras who have experience with the courts, they can just call Richt and his players.

Dear “No Longer,”

I have never met Owen Wilson but numerous tipsters have told me of their encounters meeting him and say he was very nice. Maybe he just was tired! You never know.

Now, about his terrible movie “Hall Pass,” that’s a whole ‘nother issue …:)

Is it just me, but does it seem like EVERY movie vince vaughn makes he plays the same character – HIMSELF? After Couples Retreat, he should have been banished from making movies for a few years.

@No Longer: I guess you’re entitled to get pictures when he’s just trying to relax after a long day at the set. Typically shoots are around twelve hours. I think after twelve hours of work you would be pretty tired and want to relax. Wait, I forgot that you’re entitled. Plebe.

Dear Vince and Owen, we have cowardly gangs running around the Midtown area robbing and shooting white people so be careful.

Atlanta has many movies being made. However, they fly everyone in from LA. Do you know of any photogs, editors, grips, or lighting that are hired locally? They are getting tax incentives but it is only hotels and food crafts and the people that own the trailers “Lightin” that are making any money. what about the talented creative people.

It seems to me that no matter what the movie, Vaughn seems to be playing the same character everytime. It’s the same shtick over and over again.

It varies – I do know of people who have gotten work in those capacities and others on locally produced film/TV projects. I suspect the talent will be increasingly “home grown” as the filming industry continues growing in Georgia. The LA-based studio that does visual effects for “Walking Dead” just opened an Atlanta operation, for example.

Dear Ellen,
They’re filming here instead of LA not because they love it, because Georgia passed legislation to give tax breaks, big ones, to anyone filming in Georgia who puts that stupid peach logo in the credits that noboby every sees.

@madrussian. everyone’s entitled to their opinion. you weren’t there to witness the manner in which he spoke to us, I was simply being nice in the description. and i’m sorry, but being publicly recognized is just part of being a celebrity. i hardly think he was “too tired” to smile. heck, he didn’t even have to smile and we would’ve been happy.

Jennifer do you know what is being filmed in East Point? Yesterday I saw two big productions. One near Ga. State and the other at a church on Washington Road in EP.

I know lots of “crew” people who are hired locally on almost all of these movies. While they do fly in Diectors, DPs, producers – they hire local camera operators, AC’s(assistant camera), loaders, lighting, sets, grip, etc. I know of local people who regularly work on The Walking Dead and other shows that shoot locally. Lots of people benefit, not just hotels and catering/craft services. Oh, not to mention the fees for locations. I know a family that moved out of their house for two months for it to be used as a location – with nice accommodations provided and a great fee paid – on the Ben Stiller movie that is just coming out.

I’ve made more love to more women than both Owen Wilson and VInce Vaughn COMBINED. Then again, when you’re as good looking as I am it comes easy…on and OFF campus.

@ ellen Not to sound like I’m dissing Georgia, I was born and raised here so I would NEVER do that!

However, you sound like you never been to LA, its a whole different world than anywhere in Georgia. So, I doubt that they come here because “Atlanta is better than LA”. They come here for the same reason that every other production/studio come here, the 30% entertainment tax credit they get for filming in Georgia!

O and V should do a film at gt about the worthless local black trashinfesting this city ( the ATL ) that robs and assaults the gt students, while the lazy and corrupt city government looks the other way so as not to disturb their fine relationship with the urban voting population…that would make for quite a comedy….

oh, am i thinking with my outside voice, again?

Deejay, i’m not an expert on this but have been on a couple of sets and have met hair-stylists, lighting guys, and extras-casting folks from Atlanta…and am pretty sure (but not positive) that a lot of these crews are locally hired.

Jesus and woodrow, have you ever considered that the all the ignorant, racist bu11$h1t that idiots like you spout is exactly what leads to black folks in the inner city getting alienated, pissed off and turning to violence??? I’m normally against “blaming the victim,” but if either of you get mugged in midtown, you had it coming.

My son (from ATL) works in Locations on various film projects in ATL–currently on “Walking Dead”. Got his BA degree in Film/TV in Cali but returned to GA for work. He met the girl he eventually married while working at Tyler Perry Studios; she is from ATL and works in Wardrobe. So, “locals” do get jobs in the film/tv business.

Wow. Is Vince that tall or is Owen that short? I always thought Owen was around 6 feet tall (or 5′10 at the least), but Vince just towers over him in that shot………
