Video: President Obama at the Varsity!
Amanda Ozment came to Atlanta to visit her friend Bradley Loomis, and ended up running into President Barack Obama.
“As we’re finishing eating this gentleman comes by and says, ‘if you’d like to move to our lower seating area the president’s coming by.’ I’m like the president of the United States or the president of the Varsity?”
Turns out, President Barack Obama was on the way, and Ozment’s independent filmmaking career was launched.
Here’s the video she took with her phone:
The video quickly made her a Twitter sensation, and a number of media outlets asked if they could use the clip. She graciously tweeted approval for anyone who wanted to use it.
“I was like, I want to remember this so I pulled out my phone. I was thinking my friends would think this was interesting,” she said. “Before I knew it I’ve got 100 mentions. I was like, oh I guess this is newsworthy!”
After her chance encounter with the president, Ozment headed downtown and ran into “Extra” personality Mario Lopez jogging in Centennial Olympic Park. Then came … you guessed it, the presidential motorcade, ferrying Obama to his fundraising visit to the Westin Peachtree Plaza.
“I’m a good luck charm,” Ozment laughed.
A 27-year-old nanny, she describes herself as politically interested but not a huge partisan. But hey, who wouldn’t think it was cool to stumble into a presidential photo opp?
“It’s been kind of a wild and crazy weekend!” she said.

What is Mountain Dew mouth?
Mountain Dew soda, a product of the Pepsi Company, has been deemed the culprit in creating a high incidence of severe tooth decay in children from extremely poor regions, such as Appalachia, where there is often little resources or opportunity for routine dental care.
A 20 ounce bottle of Mountain Dew contains 19 teaspoons of sugar, 93 milligrams of caffeine and acid that causes enamel erosion. Thus the dental community’s coined phrase, “Mountain Dew Mouth.” (Equally detrimental is the consumption of the caffeine content in a 20 ounce bottle, which is equivalent to taking a half tablet of NoDoz.)
In 2009, ABC news network aired a program discussing the problem of severe tooth decay among the poor children in the Appalachian mountain region. The ABC news video on “Mobile Clinic treats Mountain Dew Mouth,” and accompanying article, can be viewed here.
In the wake of the documentary, Pepsi Cola company issued a statement saying that their product could not be blamed for the poor oral hygiene of the people in Appalachia. The company’s premise was that the children needed to be taught to brush frequently, and floss regularly, in order to avoid tooth decay.
Subsequently, the company had a change of heart and publicized that they would contribute to helping the people of Appalachia with their dental needs.
Mountain Dew is sweet and kids love it. They sip it in school, during after school activities and in the evening while watching television. Sipping Mountain Dew in this manner, throughout the day, is equivalent to soaking the teeth in sugar.
“An estimated 24.8 million white people live in Appalachia, and this population often has the highest concentrations of chronic illnesses like diabetes and obesity,” said Laureen Smith, PhD, RN, study investigator and assistant professor in the College of Nursing.

To all those making ignorant, racist remarks regarding The President of the United States, if u dont like him……………well, thats just too dayum bad. Cuz more likely than not, he will get elected to another term. If you know anything about politics, you would realize 8 years of George is what got us here. Going to take 8+ years for someone…anyone to get us out. Hate to say it, but yeah….I am doing just fine. Built a house in 02, upgraded to my dream home in ‘09 (while keeping and renting out the first home), earned a degree and will begin working this fall (if I feel like it) and about to put in an inground pool in two weeks. Did all of this on my husbands salary alone. (he’s works in law enforcement). And yes, 2 kids and a dog part of the equation. Not bragging, just sayin’………

Oh goodness. How this country has changed through the years and NOT for the best. This hatred toward each other just because of skin color is so wrong. I am so glad I have raised my children to look beyond the color of one’s skin. It’s kids like mine that have the greatest chance of changing this country from the pitiful situation it finds itself in now with all the name calling and apathy. Comments like these do nothing to make this country stronger or better. It really amazes me that people get on the internet behind a pseudo name and make these outrageous comments. As a military brat, I grew up with patriotism and the belief that my father was a hero for protecting free speech for all people. I’m sorry he lost his life for this so called “free speech”. Keep this up people, and soon you’ll be bowing down to all the countries that are buying up this country. I don’t want my children being a hero through death in the military protecting your freedom until things attitudes in this country change. How quickly we forget how we came together in the aftermath of September 11.

Welcome to Atlanta Mr. President!! I am so jealous of Ms. Ozment! I wish that I had seen President Obama. After the mess that 8 years of Bush/Cheney created, he’s doing an excellent job. Some partisan people have chosen to forget the terrible mess (depression) that Bush left this country in……basically because they don’t care to do so. Those who forget their past are doomed to repeat it. (Romney would do to this country, what he did with Bain Capitol and MORE people than ever will lose their jobs. Thank God, he won’t get that chance.)

I know a lot of people are ill- informed about ObamaCare. Those who have money and can afford health care hate Universal health care. Those who do not have money think otherwise. But we should all stop brief and ask for the basic and most fundamental definition of the word INSURANCE.
Insurance means sharing the cost of our risks among ourselves. We do it when we are on the job. Why can’t we take it Universal. Some people are very angry because they think they would be sharing the risks with other people they do not like. Hey this is the real world.
The second thing I want to point out is that the present economic woes is not regional, it is global and this is due to unfication of the economies of the world. The problem is more than we were given. IT WAS SIMPLY A MESS. It will take decade to solve it It is not President Obama’s fault. I do not think Mitt Romney has the magic wand either. He has not even come out with his economic plan. Because he has none and he knows the problem is very serious.
We need to examine the economic platform we are operating on right now. The platform of excessive profitability by tout emsemble. There is the need for a new economic theories to emerge. The free market system has come crushing on its knees. Economists should admit the realities and tell people the absolute thruth. Right now we need Populist Capitalism.
Do not blame President Obama at all. It takes a very short time to destroy a system but it takes a long time to repair the system. Bush’s tax cut plan has failed and my Republican friends should admit this as a bad move the country made and then together we begin to fix the problems. This is what President Obama has been hammering upon. No soceity has ever survived when one percent of the population control almost 40 percent of the national wealth. Such societies collapse including the rich. This is what Warren Buffet wants to convey to his other rich friends.
All said and done President Obama has been a good President inspite of a hateful and non performing Congress.

Just a note: Every political person that is not for Obamacare or I call Peoplecare already has insurance, arm yourself with knowledge, by reading facts and comment less. People perish…..when there is no knowledge …….if your employer provides you with insurance “today” now truthfully would you be in a position to purchase your own? Most Americans cannot, that is why we need Peoplecare Insurance no matter who presents it. People should always matter. Most people strike out before they are armed with information. Reading insurance law and provisions is time consuming but you have to do this to really know what you are talking about or hating about. Most Americans do not even know the facts because they do not read they hear it and start hating. When did you last read your car insurance policy or homeowners policy there are changes there , do you know why? It takes to much time to do this, so we settle for the little we hear, look at television and do word of mouth. Most people do not even read their own mail ……so for once be bigger than hatred, it is guaranteed to bring you a better life you and your children. Ignorance begets ignorance only it never takes you forward and hatred never brings you to happy. It is never too late to change. I love black and white people and all the in between we are all People. So for the ones that continue this hatred no matter your race GOD Himself knows how to deal with you all on his own and that is a Promise that will not be broken.
