Video: President Obama at the Varsity!
Amanda Ozment came to Atlanta to visit her friend Bradley Loomis, and ended up running into President Barack Obama.
“As we’re finishing eating this gentleman comes by and says, ‘if you’d like to move to our lower seating area the president’s coming by.’ I’m like the president of the United States or the president of the Varsity?”
Turns out, President Barack Obama was on the way, and Ozment’s independent filmmaking career was launched.
Here’s the video she took with her phone:
The video quickly made her a Twitter sensation, and a number of media outlets asked if they could use the clip. She graciously tweeted approval for anyone who wanted to use it.
“I was like, I want to remember this so I pulled out my phone. I was thinking my friends would think this was interesting,” she said. “Before I knew it I’ve got 100 mentions. I was like, oh I guess this is newsworthy!”
After her chance encounter with the president, Ozment headed downtown and ran into “Extra” personality Mario Lopez jogging in Centennial Olympic Park. Then came … you guessed it, the presidential motorcade, ferrying Obama to his fundraising visit to the Westin Peachtree Plaza.
“I’m a good luck charm,” Ozment laughed.
A 27-year-old nanny, she describes herself as politically interested but not a huge partisan. But hey, who wouldn’t think it was cool to stumble into a presidential photo opp?
“It’s been kind of a wild and crazy weekend!” she said.

I beg to differ…..try going from 75K on January 21, 2001 to NOTHING on 9/11…after beiing laid off from United Airlines…and couldn’t find employment for over TWO YEARS — TWICE!! Try having to take a job paying less than $8/hr and couldn’t pay bills!! I was able to find employment under Obama less than SIX MONTHS after his inauguration….in my field of expertise at a comparable scale that I ws making in the late 90s!! I’m doing MUCH better than I was during the Bush Years; where were you when the nation was getting BUSHwhacked???

@ Lady-D – I’m not missing the point, but its clear you are uneducated. After 3 years in office, where is the accountability for our President to do his job!? I was never a Bush fan, but I can’t justify how people say that the economy today is still due to the former president. Thats not good enough. I do Sales for a Technology Company and imagine if I said the numbers were terrible after working years on the accounts because some prior account executive messed it up. (Hypothethical) But, I’d be held to the fire because I have to show results. Obama hasn’t shown positive steps forward. Refuses to create new incentives for small / mid-size business to grow the economy while generating new jobs. I’m getting so tired of people not looking at the facts and just saying it’s someone elses fault for the state we’re in. That just doesn’t cut it anymore. Its really hard to support and re-elect a guy who hasn’t made the positives to display confidence in the market and just go for the “hope it works out” mentality. Americans are struggling and a concrete solution is needed. This doesn’t happen overnight, but require the pieces in place for progress

The President of the USA is in ATL today. He was at the Varsity eating one of those nasty hotdogs (yucks!!!). I know he wishes he was back in Washington, D.C. eating at “Ben’s Chili Bowl” the home of the best hotdogs and half smokes anywhere in the USA. It’s sad when supposedly grownups have to stoop to name calling and spouting either none or half truths. HDB – I was gainfully employed with a hefty 401(k). Now ask me where I was in March 2009 right after Obama took office. Say it with me “UNemployed”. That’s right, from one of the big banks that Obama bailed out. I lost everything in my 401 just trying to keep a roof over my head. I too took a job at half of what I was making. Now I’m working a two temp jobs because I can’t find one that would pay what it would take to keep me out of bankruptcy and foreclosure.

Your 401K started taking a beating during the last part of the Bush years….and BUSH bailed out the banks under TARP, not Obama!! I’ve lost my 401’s THREE TIMES under Reagan, Bush41 & 43…..and couldn’t find work for two year periods under EACH Republican President!!
Not crying a river….but living OK now!! In a house that’s paid off…and slowly getting out of debt!! Couldn’t have done that under Bush……The economy IS getting better!!!
