Larry “Pants on the Ground” Platt on hand to greet Obama

606043495Mr. President, meet The General.

Gen. Larry Platt, who achieved fame with his viral “Pants on the Ground” tryout for “American Idol” in 2010, was among the well wishers on hand to greet President Barack Obama this morning. He can be seen from behind, in the left hand corner of this photo.

The president is in town for a fundraising visit at the Westin Peacthree Plaza. He ran by The Varsity ahead of time.

Platt’s use of the “General” honorific reflects his activism during the Civil Rights movement. It’s unclear at the moment if he actually met Obama or was merely part of the retinue that greeted Air Force One when it landed at Hartsfield.

Jay Tribby, Chief of Staff to Atlanta City Councilmember Kwanza Hall, tweeted us this photo just now with the message, “Can @AJCBuzz top this? Hanging with Gen Larry “Pants on the Ground” Platt to greet President @BarackObama at airport.”

Mr. Tribby, we could not hope to top that!

I don’t find this Obama character coming here looking for another handout to be the least bit interesting. However, what I found the most interesting in this write up was that a City Council person (named Kwanza (??) Hall) has a “Chief of Staff”. Now I can clearly understand why the City of Atlanta is always having budet problems and practically broke. Seriously? A Chief of Staff for a City Council member???? Wow!

Why don’t you pull your pants up a little higher to to cover your ignorance. Why did you read the article and take the time to comment, if you aren’t interested in President Obama. I bet you are so full of hatred that it keeps you awake at night. Do something constructive with your life… you might feel good about yourself.

Pants Always Up,

You need to get your facts right before you start posting. First and foremost, the COA couldn’t be in a better place with their budget and reserves than they have been in years. Before you try to disgrace the COA, you might want to read about what Mayor Reed has done for the COA. Furthermore, Mr. Tribby may be the Chief of Staff for Councilman Hall but you best believe he makes a reasonable salary not like a high dollar paid executive. As a former employee of the COA, the employees of City Council are NOT highly compensated. Therefore before you start all the next comments; please do your research.

FYI – You can always request an open records request to get more information. That way its factual.

@CorrectINFO, I believe you missed the point and you need your own factchecker. The COA does NOT have a large budget reserve and @sojournertruth’s comment concerned the excess in city government not the Chief of Staff’s salary. His point, clearly made and quite to point, is why in the world does an Atlanta City council member need a chief of staff, regardless of his salary! We do not need several people doing the job that only requires one and that is rampant in the COA.

Btw, Mayor Reed has done a fine job to date, but there is ALWAYS room for improvement!

@BasicINFO – it appears you missed my point. Just maybe Mr. Tribbey is over Councilman Hall’s staff; did you ever think of that. The councilmembers has many people on staff, many that are college students volunteering and others that work either part time or full time. People kill me worrying about someone else when they should be worrying about their own. People get so caught up on titles, if you really do your research; you will find a lot of screwed up titles at the COA but it is what it is…..just a title. However I commend the new HR Commish for working through that mess and attempting to streamline things.

As far as the reserves, you may want to check again. Mayor Reed has done an excellent job keeping expenditures down, not raising property taxes, no RIFs and continuing to bring good things to Atlanta. However, I do agree that there is always room for improvement.
