President Barack Obama, headed to Atlanta for a fundraising visit at the Westin Peachtree Plaza on Tuesday, will work in a stop at the set of “42,” filming this week in Midtown and in Inman Park, according to a well-placed source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The movie is about Jackie Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s color line when playing for the Dodgers. It has been filming in Macon, Chattanooga and Birmingham. Things are wrapping up this week in Midtown. Good timing for the president, whose people let it be known he’d like to stop by.
The movie folks were happy to oblige, and we hear from someone in a position to know that the visit is a go.
This will do traffic no favors, of course. Detours and lane closures are often part of the package when a movie films on city streets. Add in presidential security and … you get the idea.
According to fliers that went up over the weekend, filming is taking place in Midtown, on Cypress, West Peachtree and Peachtree streets this week. We drove by that area earlier and the only evidence of movie making we saw was a bunch of equipment on the sidewalk outside a location around the area of 6th and Cypress streets. It looked like things were just getting set up.
The moving is also doing some filming in Inman Park, on Edgewood Avenue between Elizabeth and Hurt streets.

Affirmative action shouldn’t even be needed… if people in charge weren’t so biased (against race or gender), it wouldn’t be needed… this is spoken from the perspective of a female in a very male-dominated field (I’m one of 3 females out of a 15-person team of employees). No use in whining about affirmative action and fairness on either side of the fence, trust me… it is what it is, and it’s unfair.
As much as it provides jobs for minorities/females, it does occasionally deprive opportunities to qualified candidates because they happen to be the majority (white males – my brother is proof of this…genius but couldn’t get a job to save his life b/c of affirmative action quotas, as he eventually found out)

P.S. – Obama’s skin color is a pretty mixed bag – he’s as white as he is black. There was probably a time when he’d be judged by blacks for not being black enough. He’s a racially decent representative of the States – a mixed bag of races. His skin color has nothing to do w/ people liking/disliking him… it’s his actions.

Hahaha! You should have told that to me when I discovered that I was making just over 1/2 the salary of one of my male counterparts who had the exact same job description as I did. I had a good degree from Ga Tech, and my coworker, a nice guy, had less experience and no degree. Luckily the guy was a friend of mine and suspected this was happening…that’s how I found out.
So, while it may benefit white women in getting their administrative jobs here and there… getting a legit job with equal pay in a male-dominated profession is still a challenge.

Sexism and racism are both still running rampant, I won’t deny that… but I’m not going to run around blabbing that women are better than men because of this or that. We all have our strengths… racially, it’s no different.
Affirmative action shouldn’t be needed b/c the mix of different strengths and weaknesses should be welcomed…

It’s as simple as the NBA example. Ok,what about hockey ? Blacks do not like to be cold or wet,henceforth the few black NHL players.
It’s all about ability.
Oh,and you women,there are no female NBA or NHL players,you are not qualified to compete on that level.
Do we need to weaken the leagues and have gender quotos ?

Okey doke…well it’s been fun but I had enough gender equality arguements last week on the anniversary of Title IX (I don’t agree that it should be absolutely equal) We all have our strengths and weaknesses…I’d like to see any guy try to be a female for one week out of the month, much less for 9 months with a person growing inside of them!
