Report: Obama wants to visit Atlanta movie set

President Barack Obama heads back to Atlanta for more fundraising this week, and reportedly wants to visit the set of a movie filming here.

Deadline reports that Obama wants to visit the set of “42,” the movie about baseball great Jackie Robinson. Actor Chadwick Boseman plays the athlete who broke MLB’s color line by joining the Dodgers in 1947, and Harrison Ford stars as Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey. The movie, which has been filming in Birmingham, Chattanooga and Macon, is wrapping up with some final background scenes in Atlanta this week.

AwMBRKyCMAAFla4According to signs going up in Midtown over the weekend, filming will take place this week in Midtown – on Cypress, West Peachtree and Peachtree streets. Thanks to Travis Nichols for sending the image of the notice, at the left. The notice points out that off-duty Atlanta police officers will be there to direct traffic. Traffic’s always affected when movies take over a city street, and of course if the president shows up that’s going to kick things up a notch.

“Well, of course I said it would be OK” for Obama to visit, Legendary Entertainment chief Thomas Tull told Deadline. He has donated $35,800 to the Obama Victory Fund 2012, Deadline reported.

Alliances with the stars helped Obama’s war chest when he was here in March for a number of fundraisers, including one hosted by entertainment mogul Tyler Perry. Obama raised more than $734,000 from Georgians that month.

The president’s star-studded March event did cause a minor dust-up, though, as entertainer Cee-Lo performed the original version of the song rendered into the family friendlier “Forget You” on commercial radio. Cee-Lo’s performance featured a hand gesture familiar to Atlanta drivers who have just been cut off in traffic, too, and a video of the episode made the rounds online.

Details of the movie set visit were still being worked out.

If Michelle Obama woud campaign in the State of Georgia, and make sure to come down southward to the middle, eastern and down where Thomasville, and Waycross are located. The State of Georgia would easily fall into the President’s Column–Easily. Mr. President if you campaign in Georgia, South Carolna, Miss, and Alabama, the President can win the entire South. That is the Magic Jenie that Conservatives don’t want to let out of the bag. Shhhh–don’t tell nobody but Blacks, Hispanic, and Progressive Forward thinking Whites make up the Majority of the vote in the New South.

So, according to Shady (at 1:35pm), if you’re white and don’t look at the truth behind blacks (Hispanics work hard and don’t ask for handouts so they don’t count) then you are considered “Progressive & Forward-Thinking” Ain’t that rich!

So, if I ignore all the problems that go hand-in-hand with 99.8% of black communities I’m now Progressive & Forward Thinking. Awesome!

Oh PLEASE, Mr. Obama, campaign in the South!! PLEASE spend as MUCH time as physically possible in state’s like GA, AL, MS, TN, and SC, as one poster suggested. Please come here and campaign with the progressive whites, Latinos, and blacks. Yeah, see, the more time that jackass spends in states he’ll lose, the less time he’ll have to be in state’s that matter like VA, FL, NV, OH, NM, PA, AZ, WI, and IA. Yes, come here. We can even move the White House to Lithonia or College Park.

@Patriot

Of COURSE it was a political move! What did you expect from a politician? Baseball players make baseball moves; basketball players make basketball moves; football players make football moves, and politicians make–you got it!!–political moves!

And when the people of this country wake up, they’ll do so to the tune of the media’s fawning, slobbering, and moaning over this guy right around September after Labor Day. The media made this guy, and they ARE NOT going to let an informed person like you screw this thing up! In November, you will once again wake up the first Wednesday morning of that month to realize your nightmare was not only real, but it’s going to last four more years.

I think Obama should campaign in Georgia and all across the south IF FOR NO OTHER REASON than to piss people like The Man off!! “The Man” is so Fg stupid to actually believe that 99% of the Black community is what he sees portrayed on TV and in the news. People like The Man wholeheartedly accepts the idea of “liberal media bias”, but would never believe that anti-Black media bias helps to drive the perception of who Blacks really are – outside (and unfortunately inside) the Black community. Oh, and let’s not forget the oh so notorious “statistics”..

I am so surprised at how much anger is out there about Obama and black people. The things that influence your life the most are not the President or Black People. It is the stuff you do and decisions you make that have obviously ticked you off enough to deflect your own shallowness to others. Are you the person other people think you are or do you just hide behind blogs throwing daggers. The president of the USA doesn’t have as much power over your life directly as you are giving him credit. So what happens if he isn’t re-elected? Is there a pot of gold, pixie dust and a magic wand that will all of a sudden make your life so wonderful since obviously several of you are just angry, malicious, faceless people with only the power to type instead of anything else. I don’t care about the color of the president, governor, mayor, friend, co-worker, etc. I am more afraid of your hatred and anger that could more quickly impact someone personally (mentally or physically). It is time to come out of your hate closets! I bet if all of you were in a room face-to-face, a whole lot of this bravado wouldn’t be said–most of you would be smiling at playing the game—That is the sad part! Technology has created a lot of advancements and a lot of cowards too!

It’s always a joke to see whites say that blacks only voted for President Obama b/c he is black. I guess whites will be voting for willards b/c they are all repubs. Big secret exposed – just like blacks may voted for the President b/c he is black (newsflash – I always thought a person voted for their candidate of choice), there were many (insert white here) who didnt vote for the President b/c he is black.

I’m amazed how people complain about the President which is their right but they can’t explain what it is Romney is going to do for them. He does not take a stance on one issue and the election is right around the corner. The man does not commit to anything. Now black people have been voting for white politicians forever but if they vote for a black one the only reason is because he is black. I’m glad we have a black President because it exposed to the rest of the world our behavior and how we try to tell others how they should live and run their governments. The exposure has been wonderful they all came out of the closet in full force.

It is really sad that some of the people making comments really believe what they have written. First, there are more Whites receiving welfare than any other race of people. Secondly, especially here in Atlanta there are more Black Millionaires than in any city in America and you have more Blacks attending college. Therefore,before you make these incorrect ignorant statments get you statistics and facts straight. Because, you are wrong and before you post again with your misconceptions and misinformation, have facts and statistics to backup your claims. President Obama hands down is the better candidate, his intelligent and if the Republican Congress would stop with all of their Racist behavior, maybe he can get things accompolish. OBAMA 2012!

Hmmm. The choice is ridiculously simple: Re-elect the incumbent who is fighting for preserving my chance at affordable healthcare, the right to marry for my gay friends, the option for affordable student loans, a humanitarian option to grandfather in immigrant children into US citizenship who had no choice in coming here (you’re of immigrant decendency, too, so get over yourself, plus– there is no good decision about immigration and how to handle it–self deportation??), a forward path into energy independence, a terrorist-seeking sleuth who has made my country safer and ended one of two useless wars left-over from an un-named previous mis-guided administration, led us away from the brink of financial armegeddon–again, left-over mop-up from a previous administration—–OR——voting for a marionette whose strings are pulled by a group of seventeen billionaires who want only their self-serving interests provided in return for their monetary contributions: De-regulation to allow their corporations to further pollute and destroy our land while they profit, de-regulation on Wall Street so they can again destroy our economy, destruction of our social safety nets like Medicare and Social Security (in the name of cost-cutting and ’savings’), the elimination of the middle class to further evolve into an ogliarchy controlled by only the very rich, control of my uterus (since I clearly can’t control it myself), more tax breaks to the very rich so I can hope to benefit from their ‘trickle-down’ economic theory–which still hasn’t worked, the slow elimination of my employee rights starting with the destruction of employee unions, where does it stop?……No, my vote is still clearly with this very intelligent, articulate, socially cognizant and magnanimous president—I hope your rush hour is R.U.I.N.E.D by his visit.

I know Obama probably won’t win in Georgia, but he should. There are many uninsured people in GA who desperately need health care and who have no access to it without Obama’s plan being enacted. As for people talking about the economy, you have to be out of your mind to blame Obama for this economy. Bush squandered our surpluses and put us into massive deficit spending. It took him eight years to destroy Clinton’s economy. Nobody could fix that disaster in less than 4 years. It’s going to take time to undo what republicans have done to this country.

American, the answer to your question is you are a moron too. Mr. Oblamer couldn’t tell the truth if he had to. Lies, Lies, Lies. That is what he is about. Yes, Bush was not the best President ever but this man has accumulated more debt than all President’s put together in 3 and 1/2 years. He is so unqualified to run a country. He couldn’t run a ice cream palor if he had to. He has been nothing but an embrassment to this country. He is a lunatic.

MANY blacks voted for Obama simply based on race – if you don’t believe it check interviews with Tyler Perry who said openly, he had never voted in the past but registered and voted for Obama – tell me that wasn’t race related. Or the lady behind me to vote who said – what are all these lines for on the form, ain’t we just votin for Obama – oh and she was black as well. Too many people had these experiences to deny the truth!

There are a lot of IGNORANT people posting on here I see. FYI, to say that xxx% of black people voted for Obama “because he’s black” really shows how dumb you are, because Black people as a whole have voted 90 something percent for the Democrat candidate for 2 decades or more. Do your homework people (check the %age Clinton got, the %age Kerry got of the Black vote…all in the 90+%) and stop using that argument. It really shows how much of a hack you are.

@Hokie

You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! One thing that kills me about AJC blogs, more “race wars” are fought on them than news discussion, and in the most vile manner. I would like nothing more than to come om. blog and engage in a civil, thoughtful discussion. However, too many readers of AJC simply desire to perpetuate the same evil and lies that have been perpetuated about minorities in this country for 400 years. Why the hell are they so bitter? Simply because the image they see holding the highest position in the world is exactly the one they love to ridicule. And so, they feel the need to deligitimize the man, and in some of the most disrespectful ways. The moderators of AJC blogs are wholly complicit in that they allow it to happen. Of course we have freedom of speech, can’t argue that. So with that I choose to give people back what they put out. I am NOT a turn-the-other-cheek type of person. Oppressive personalities love people who are because they effectively submit to the oppression. Honestly, and ultimately I would never subscribe to AJC or financially support any of its entities because it is a socially irresponsible news outlet in my opinion. Do I come out here from time to time? Yes. It is the only game in town. I’d never put my money behind it though.

Why is this becoming a black/white/rich/poor issue? You are all missing the point. There is no reason for our President to be hanging out on a movie set when there are bigger fish to fry – “Fast and Furious” (no, not an installment of a crappy movie franchise), health care, job creation, finding alternative sources of fuel. I don’t care if my President is a Republican or a Democrat, but if they’re making visiting a movie set a priority over matters of national attention, it is a serious problem.

Quit focusing on the demographics and start focusing on the issues, people.

Percentage wise, blacks tend to vote Democrat to the tune of, usually, well over 90%, In the 2008 election, that PERCENTAGE stayed the course. What DID change, however, was the NUMBER of blacks voting, and THAT was DIRECTLY due to Obama’s race. His supporters pretty much told you what it was all about that year; how many times did you hear them say this was a historical election? Why was that? We’ve had presidential elections before, right? Obama WILL get over 90% of the black vote, once again, mainly because he’s a Democrat. The trick is just HOW MANY black voters come out, not the percentage of that vote he gets.

Vladimir Sonovabitch

Hey Obama 2012. I don’t care about his race. I would have voted for Herman Caine in a heartbeat, so take race out of the picture. Fact of the matter is…. it is a PROVEN and historical FACT, that if you lower taxes, the Government’s revenue goes UP. IT GOES UP!!!! So, if that is a proven FACT, then the ONLY reason to raise taxes on the so called rich is for only a couple of reasons. It’s so the working class man can have an “I GOT YA RICH BOY” mentality and it’s for the Dems to essencially “buy” votes from the lower classes. The rich DO pay their fair share. They pay way more in taxes than anyone else.

If the rich person and company have to pay more in taxes, then there is a trickle down effect. Meaning that they will have to charge more TO YOU for their goods and services they offer to offset the higher costs. They may have to eliminate some jobs, generally jobs filled by “Working class” people, because they can no longer afford them. They need to maintain a certain PROFIT MARGIN or they will go out of business. Or, perhaps just go over seas now because, thanks to Obama, the US now has the highest corporate taxes in the WORLD.

This is what I mean when I say that stupid people don’t understand business or basic economics. You all think too small minded. You don’t see the BIG PICTURE.

@OBAMA 2012

Sir/Madam,
An “inheritance” is something, usually a gift, that is bestowed upon an unknowing and typically unsuspecting recipient. Obama ASKED for the job of the American president. As a matter of fact, I think he toured 57 states asking–BEGGING–for people to vote for him to GET that job, as all politicians do. He has not performed well, but this is not because of anything he “inherited.” He asked for the job, and should be held accountable for his failure. If he wasn’t up to the “inheritance,” he should never have asked for the job.

Let’s face it: we put an amateur in the White House simply because most of us hated Bush and everything Republican. We put an amateur in the White House because many of us (white folk) wanted to cleanse our racial souls and do something good for the country–or something we THOUGHT would be good for the country. We put an amateur in the White House because we thought it would be “cool” to have a young, hip president who listens to the Black Eye Peas, and named the Fugees as one of his favorite groups. And some of us put that amateur in the White House quite simply because we agree with his Marxist leanings (sorry folks, it is what it is, and he is what he is–a Marxist).

So we either end this nightmare in November, or we extend it and continue to hear the lame excuses for four more years. Imagine: 2016, the economy still stinks, and Obama and the Democrat candidate for president still talking about the damage Bush did! HA.

Most of you are barking up the wrong tree with your arguments, the true victims of the two party system are the American people. There is hardly a bit of difference in the two parties that we can vote for and the results are almost always the same, we get screwed while the wealth is redistributed to the ruling class.
Many people will vote for Obama because they see him as an opponent of the ruling class, but his brand of government is hardly different from George Bush’s. Both have done severe damage to the economy, both fought wars that we should not be involved in, both have allowed Wall Street and the Banking Oligarchy to fleece us of our (piddling) wealth, both have shown that they think govt. knows best and should be the biggest company in America.
Sadly, we will again go to the polls in November without a real choice of anyone to take us out of this mess. It was really my hope that out of all this mess, a candidate with different ideas and a true understanding of freedom and personal liberty would be able to emerge victorious; alas, I was sadly hoping for more than I think is possible. The media will not allow anyone who will shake the status quo to see the light of day during the obfuscation contests that we call primaries. Guess I will go to the polls and write in Ron Paul for the third consecutive presidential election, only to see Obama or Romney be our next elected president and the country continue its’ same sad spiral.

Hi Lucy- always nice to meet another So B. it fan. I’m flattered that you’re doing an author study on me. If you look on my website, you’ll see a button on the upper right hand corner of very first page that will give you all kinds of good info for your report. Also, make sure to visit the So B. It Page in the section called BOOKS. Here’s a little bit from that page: Where did the idea for So B. It come from and why did you choose to make Mama’s mysterious word soof?The idea for So B. It didn’t come in one big chunk the way some book ideas do. Instead it came in smaller pieces, which eventually began to take on the shape of a story. One thing I remember thinking about as I began working on the book was this idea that people are like locks, and in order to find out what makes them who they are, you have to find the right key to unlock the mystery.
