Jimmy Carter joins Willie Nelson on stage

JCFormer President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, joined Willie Nelson on stage at Chastain Park Amphitheatre Friday night for “Amazing Grace.”

The former president even put on a bandana for the impromptu performance. His most recent book, “NIV Lessons from Life Bible: Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter,” draws on his many years as a Sunday School teacher at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.

The crowd loved every minute of the former president’s visit to the stage but really roared their appreciation when Mrs. Carter walked out. What a nice moment for Atlanta.

Here’s a video that “Brock” posted below. The Twitter stamp on the video indicates that James Carter took it. Thanks to both of them.

And above is a photo that Aimee and Spalding Nix took. (Have you been by their gallery?)

Thanks to Nic Howell for the photo we posted earlier. Anyone else manage to capture this fun moment on their iPhone?

Nah, this “evil Republican” is a GA native who disagrees with President Carter on almost everything but is grown up enough to be proud of the man from his home state who became president of the U.S., did good things with his years after being president, and appreciates a man who loves great music (Amazing Grace is a pretty awesome song). :-)

Didn’t get a pic myself, but it was a classic moment. I almost choked on my beer when Jamey Johnson put the red bandana on the prez. I’m an evil republican and I’d pay top dollar for a chance to smoke reefer with Willie. Carter’s an outstanding human being regardless of his political leanings.

I agree with Michael. I voted for Jimmy in 1976. I had great hope for him. In 1980 I voted for Reagan. However he was Potus only 44 of them. To raise to that level you have to be very exceptional. I hope back in the day he enjoyed some smoke with Willie a top the White House.

Jimmy was a mediocre President, but an exceptional human being. A very talented and smart individual, but not a strong President. But have to give him credit for still going strong at 86 years old, no matter what political party you are. And he has been one of the best ex-Presidents…

Jimmy was too nice of a person to be president. He really wanted to do what was best for the people. IMHO. Not many politicians out there that are not in it for the prestige.

Mediocre, He WAS/IS the 2nd Worst Prez in HISTORY. BHO, has him beat in setting us back on the International stage, Foreign diplomacy. .The former Soviet Union and now Russia does not even respect nor fear his Administration. They are giving the Syrians attack helicopters. They would have NEVER done that with Ronald Reagan in office.

WEAK, I’d smoke it up with Jimmy Carter like Jimmy Buffett did when he spent the night in the Lincoln bedroom in 77.

He tried to make the US energy independent. He inherited rampant inflation (remember the Gerald Ford effort to “whip inflation now.” He was fought with every effort he tried to enact because he was not a Washington insider. He lost mainly because of the hostage crisis and has been vilified ever since. Why do people say he was a terrible president–he dealt with a terrible congress. Different day, same story.

I’m a big country music fan but glad I was far away from all those anti-Americans. That is a show for Vermont or California right there (or Austin, Texas if Willie wants to stay home).

They could form a new duet called The Left Leaning Brain Dead Seniles. BTW Carter is not a nice guy. he has mean streak in him as evidenced by his mean comment during Mrs Kings funeral. Even Obama would have had more class than that. I like Willie’s singing but the pot has burned up the good side of his brain and that is why he leans to the left. Anyone calling Israel a racist state is probably a muslim extremist that wants to put a grenade in a childs hand and have him blow himself up.

Jimmy Carter legacy is 18% mortgage rates, gas shortages, meat shortages, unemployment over 9%, energy crisis, Iran hostages, credit card rates over 21% for people with A+ credit. The man only won 6 states and has 49 electoral votes in 1980. Jimmy should have stayed in Plains and keep building Habitat homes. But Obama has him beat for the worst president in US history.

For those that always cry Republicans are the party of hate, always remember Democrats help start and influenced the KKK, Jim Crow, segregation, women suffrage, hatred of Jews and other crimes against humanity, all for the cause of supremacy. Yellowdog Democrats actually murdered Republicans. Never can the legacy of Democrats be forgotten especially Southern Democrats. Even in the church, Democrats promoted segregation and Democrats ruled the South until the 1990’s. Learn who the real biggots really are.

Ol’ Jimmy fell victim to circumstances that were not of his own choosing — just like our current Prez. And as the American people didn’t apprehend the origin of the circumstances then, they can’t see them now, either.
