Denzel Washington was in Atlanta last year filming an action drama called “Flight,” about a heroic pilot with personal demons. After his character manages to safely land a plane that appeared to be heading for disaster, questions into his background emerge and the real crash landing looms.
The movie, coming out this fall, also stars John Goodman, who was Washington’s co-star in the creepy thriller “Fallen,” in what looks to be a role aimed at comic relief. The movie, also starring Don Cheadle and Melissa Leo, filmed in numerous Atlanta locations, including St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Marriott Marquis downtown, an apartment complex off Glenridge Road and Fulton County Airport at Charlie Brown Field. That little airport is becoming a popular filming spot, by the way. “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” shot some scenes there, too.
It also filmed at the St. Regis, which you can spot in this quick video clip. Looks like they shot a scene in the wine bar area.
Washington kept a fairly low key profile during his time in Atlanta. showed up at Whiskey Blue one night in early December, sat with some friends and sipped red wine. In October of last year, he checked out V103 host Frank Ski’s restaurant on Peachtree and posed for a photo. He was spotted around town a few times just running errands, such as buying apples at a Whole Foods store near Emory and shopping at The Container Store in Buckhead.
By the way we looked for but did not spot Atlanta’s own Holly Firfer, given a credit as “reporter” on the movie’s imdb.com site, in the clip. We’ll just have to go see the movie!

Didn’t they also do some filming around Covington? I remember hearing that some movie of his was filming there last year (his second trip there after “Remember the Titans”).
