Video: Dan Uggla to become an STK server for a night

Dan Uggla will become an STK server for a night, to benefit his foundation.

Dan Uggla will become an STK server for a night, to benefit his foundation.

Atlanta Braves Player Dan Uggla will pinch hit as a server at STK the night of July 16 to benefit his charity, Diamonds in the Rough.

“I was a waiter back in the day,” he said. “I wasn’t very good at it. I wanted a second chance.”

In fact, the second baseman who smashed a three-run homer in last week’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals said working as a server can be the more challenging job, what with keeping all those orders straight, dealing with demanding customers, making sure everything comes out at the proper time and keeping management happy.

“All I gotta do is hit a baseball,” he quipped.

Here’s a video clip in which Uggla spells out the parallels between baseball and waiting tables:

The event, officially called “Dan Uggla’s Celebrity Waiter Night at STK,” starts at 7 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner at 8 p.m. The event also will feature a live auction. Tickets are $250 each. Uggla’s Diamonds in the Rough Foundation serves seriously ill and physically challenged children in metro Atlanta and their families. For tickets and information see the web site.

Celebrity guests planning to attend will be announced in coming weeks.

“For you ladies, I’m going to get Brandon Beachy,” Uggla promised, referring to his Braves colleague. “He’s great to look at.”

STK, a swank new steakhouse in Midtown, became a celebrity magnet the instant it opened, and its notable guests have included reality show personality Kim Kardashian. She visited this February while in town filming some episodes of “Drop Dead Diva,” the Lifetime show that films in Peachtree City. She starred in a guest role.

So, since the ephemerally married Kardashian is back on the market, has Uggla invited her to his charity bash?

“Not yet,” he laughed. “But that’s a great idea!”

Since he is leading the majors in errors at his position, I hope he doesn’t bobble the trays.

Keep the Thrashers in Canada! Atlanta doesn’t care about hockey. Get over it!

That is really cool. Those who will meet Dan Uggla are extremely lucky folks. Not only is he a good ball player, but a great person.

@OTP… you have to look at the big picture. Uggla is also in the top 10 in the majors at his position in put outs, assists, and double plays. Not to mention he’s never been a gold-glove caliber second baseman, and I highly doubt Frank Wren picked him up solely for his defense. you dummy, probably a phillies fan.

I guess she’s as notable a guest as Charles Manson would be. Then again its not like her and her ilk murdered anything, except good taste.

Umm…the link for this spoke of Jamal Lewis filing for bankruptcy, not about a Brave’s pitcher celebrity fundraiser.
