“The Hunger Games” sequel will film in the Atlanta area this summer through winter, according to a well-placed source with direct knowledge of the project.
“Catching Fire,” the second of the Hunger Games trilogy, will film July through December in metro Atlanta and beyond, our source says.
Movie and entertainment sites such as MTV.com have avidly been discussing who might be joining lead actress Jennifer Lawrence in the next movie to be adapted from Suzanne Collins’ phenomenally best selling young adult novels, with names like Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund being bandied about and “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson dismissing rumors that he had signed on.
The first “Hunger Games” movie, which set the box office afire like Katniss’ flaming chariot, was filmed in North Carolina. Members of the cast visited Atlanta just prior to the movie’s much anticipated release.

Hunger Games" cast members Jack Quaid, from left, Amandla Stenberg, Dayo Okeniyi, Leven Rambin and Liam Hemsworth visited Atlanta in March, just before the movie was released. They're shown here at a Lenox Square appearance..
In addition to a switch in filming location, the movie series is switching directors, as Gary Ross announced earlier this year he would not be returning for “Catching Fire.”
“The Hunger Games” series tells the story of a post apocalyptic world in which young people are forced by an all powerful central government to compete in gruesome fights to the finish while enraptured viewers watch all the action.

Didn’t like the first one… The book spoiled me… As for filming here in Atlanta, there are many locations here that will bring out the raw, savage land of the arena!!!

Its funny that Atlanta is picked for the Zombie and Apocalyptic movies now…in the “70’s and 80’s it was picked for the hillbillies.

I thought the first one was filmed in KY. They didn’t even have to hire costume designers, find extras or build sets for the home district. (That’s for my Wildcats loving cousins in the Bitter Jelly commonwealth.)

hey all you dems/liberals… these companies are coming to GA to do business because of LOW TAXES. Of course they’d rather do it in Cali but it is waaaaay to expensive when you can get equally good shots in a cheaper area.

joey…they are here because of the TAX EXEMPTIONS…which some could argue is a form of corporate welfare. It doesn’t work well everywhere..like Michigan, who gave away the store practically and is now rethinking their policies. I do think its a win/win for Georgia–at least for now.

WONDERFUL For those cast for roles and FLOWN in. MEANS nothing for the talented ACTORS in Atlanta who end us as glorified EXTRAS. The agencies in Georgia are pretty much USELESS when it comes to getting any real exposure to auditioning for these types of movies.
