I’m off for a couple of days. Going home to Carolina. See you Monday.
Drummer Zachary Alford, who has toured with Bruce Springsteen, B-52s, David Bowie and Gwen Stefani, taught a master class at Camp Jam Atlanta, held recently at Oglethorpe University.
After a Q&A session, Alford picked up his sticks and did his thing, jamming out for the audience of future rock stars.
Camp Jam was founded by Jeff Carlisi, lead guitarist for .38 Special, and Dan Lipson, entrepreneur and guitarist for Vintage Red.
Artists featured at every Camp Jam session include musicians who have performed with Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Guns & Roses, Sheryl Crow, Survivor, The Fray, Rod Stewart, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The All-American Rejects, Don Henley, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and many others.
Camp Jam has been rocking Atlanta all summer long, starting
What you gon’ do with all that junk? All that junk inside your trunk?
Here’s an idea: You could become a movie extra.
Work starts soon in Atlanta on “The Internship,” a comedy starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. It’s about guys who get downsized and then decide to start climbing the corporate ladder again from the bottom. Wilson and Vaughn each have filmed movies here in Atlanta – Wilson starred in “Hall Pass” and Vaughn in “The Watch,” coming out this summer. Now the “Wedding Crashers” duo reunites.
Here are some featured roles the extras casting folks are looking for:

Mr. President, meet The General.
Gen. Larry Platt, who achieved fame with his viral “Pants on the Ground” tryout for “American Idol” in 2010, was among the well wishers on hand to greet President Barack Obama this morning. He can be seen from behind, in the left hand corner of this photo.
The president is in town for a fundraising visit at the Westin Peacthree Plaza. He ran by The Varsity ahead of time.
Platt’s use of the “General” honorific reflects his activism during the Civil Rights movement. It’s unclear at the moment if he actually met Obama or was merely part of the retinue that greeted Air Force One when it landed at Hartsfield.
Jay Tribby, Chief of Staff to Atlanta City Councilmember Kwanza Hall, tweeted us this photo just now with the message, “Can @AJCBuzz top this? Hanging with Gen Larry “Pants on the Ground” Platt to greet President @BarackObama at airport.”
Mr. Tribby, we could not hope to top that!
To be honest, Amanda Ozment’s trip to Atlanta to visit her friend Bradley Loomis hadn’t started off so great. She lost her wallet in the airport after she arrived. But she figured her trip would end on a high note when she stopped by the Varsity, an Atlanta landmark her dad had learned about on the Travel Channel.
“As we’re finishing eating this gentleman comes by and says, ‘if you’d like to move to our lower seating area the president’s coming by.’ I’m like the president of the United States or the president of the Varsity?”
Turns out, President Barack Obama was on the way, and Ozment’s independent filmmaking career was launched.
Here’s the video she took with her phone:
The video quickly made her a Twitter sensation, and a number of media outlets asked if they could use the clip. She graciously tweeted approval for anyone who wanted to use it.
Kim Kardashian is on her way back to Atlanta.
Our source: Kim Kardashian.
“Heading out to ATL shaaaaawwwwty!,” she tweeted about half an hour ago.
The reality show personality does spend a fair amount of time here. She was in town not long ago filming some episodes of the Lifetime show “Drop Dead Diva,” which films here. Before that she was here filming a role in the Tyler Perry film “The Marriage Counselor.” That was right after her fleeting marriage to Kris Humphries ended.
More recently rumors started swirling that her current fella Kanye West is looking to purchase a pad for the two of them when they’re in town. A source who sells and leases high-end real estate properties in Atlanta confirmed that there’s talk of a possible Casa K&K in town. Just the boost the local real estate market has been searching for!
In past trips to Atlanta Kardashian has been spotted at STK and Twist. We’ll post updates as details of this trip become
President Barack Obama, headed to Atlanta for a fundraising visit at the Westin Peachtree Plaza on Tuesday, will work in a stop at the set of “42,” filming this week in Midtown and in Inman Park, according to a well-placed source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The movie is about Jackie Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s color line when playing for the Dodgers. It has been filming in Macon, Chattanooga and Birmingham. Things are wrapping up this week in Midtown. Good timing for the president, whose people let it be known he’d like to stop by.
The movie folks were happy to oblige, and we hear from someone in a position to know that the visit is a go.
This will do traffic no favors, of course. Detours and lane closures are often part of the package when a movie films on city streets. Add in presidential security and … you get the idea.
According to fliers that went up over the weekend, filming is taking place in Midtown, on
President Barack Obama heads back to Atlanta for more fundraising this week, and reportedly wants to visit the set of a movie filming here.
Deadline reports that Obama wants to visit the set of “42,” the movie about baseball great Jackie Robinson. Actor Chadwick Boseman plays the athlete who broke MLB’s color line by joining the Dodgers in 1947, and Harrison Ford stars as Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey. The movie, which has been filming in Birmingham, Chattanooga and Macon, is wrapping up with some final background scenes in Atlanta this week.
According to signs going up in Midtown over the weekend, filming will take place this week in Midtown – on Cypress, West Peachtree and Peachtree streets. Thanks to Travis Nichols for sending the image of the notice, at the left. The notice points out that off-duty Atlanta police officers will be there to direct traffic. Traffic’s
