Jane Fonda will play Nancy Reagan in new movie

jane_fonda_300-267x300How’s this for strange bedfellows?

Jane Fonda, the sometimes Atlantan whom critics love to hate as “Hanoi Jane” for her Vietnam War era activism, will portray the wife of one of conservatives’ most revered figures: Nancy Reagan.

Fonda will play the former first lady in several scenes in the movie “The Butler,” reports Movie Talk, citing several industry sources.

“The historical drama is based on a story written in the Washington Post about a White House servant, Eugene Allen, who served eight presidents in the White House from Harry Truman through Ronald Reagan -— meaning plenty of chances for cameos from A-list actors,” the report says.

Fonda was in Atlanta in January and posted some photos and comments about the trip on her blog:

“I’m here for various events on behalf of my non-profit, The Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, and to see my daughter and grandkids. It’s been rainy and cold but still, as always, Atlanta is a warm and friendly place and I love being back and seeing so many friends and colleagues.”

She should play Eva Braun or Mao Tse Tung’s wife. Or hell Hitler as a woman.

What an absolute insult and disgrace to have a modern day Benedict Arnold playing the wife of one of the most beloved president’s of the modern era. She had a chance to be a patriot and chose to be a traitor. For those who are preaching foregiveness have you forgiven Hiltler, Stalin, Khmer Rouge, ….. for their atrocities?

There have been many factual books and papers about the American experience in Vietnam exposing why it was a mistake to have conducted the war as we did, by honored and respected men and women who served and those who were in governmental roles directing our activities throughout this failed and miserable war. Ever read any books by Tim O’Brien? I’m guessing if you think JF is a traitor, you believe Tim O’Brien is a liar.

The chief reason the extremists are still angry at Jane is because she was right and the bonkers right wing is wrong about Vietnam. All wars are good? Every single one? Even genocidal wars that had no purpose. Go talk to the families of those who died or were wounded in Vietnam, and talk to those of us from that generation who served. It was a hoax, a sham, a waste of blood, treasure and status. It is just about the ugliest thing this country did in the 20th century. God bless Jane Fonda and God bless real Americans who can stand up for what is right.

@what were you thinkin – “For those who are preaching foregiveness have you forgiven Hiltler, Stalin, Khmer Rouge, ….. for their atrocities?” You’re equating Jane Fonda with Hitler, Stalin and the Khmer Rouge? I think you’re head popped off and it’s rolling down the street. Better go catch it.

What a shame and truly a slur against the Reagan family. There are plenty of talented actresses who can adequately portray our former first lady. To Mr. Wine of Yesterday: What is right about our POW’s being beaten as a result of her visit? Real American?????

It has nothing to do with if Vietnam or any other war was good (it wasn’t). Her protesting the war like most peple would have been ok – but she ‘aided and abetted the enemy’ by allowing herself to be photographed in an antiaircraft gun that was used for enemy propaganda. What she did WAS wrong. It would be like someone protesting the war in Afghanistan by being photographed helping the Taliban bury an IED/bomb. Think that is a valid way of protesting? She should have been deported or prosecuted as an enemy of the state. She was a traitor – plain and simple. Whoever cast her as Nancy Reagan should be ashamed of themselves though it did get what they wanted – controversy and free press.

Has anyone ever considered why Ms. Fonda made the trip to Hanoi? I suspect she was working for the US Government.

Jane’s group has helped lower teen pregnancy.
What have you done for this state?
Most Republicans refuse to read the many books detailing the foolishness of the Vietnam endeavor.
Having failed to do that and as a result willing to fall for any ridiculous theory like the “press lost the war”, Republicans wasted more of our blood and treasure on near impossible missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
W ran up over 5 trillion dollars in deficit spending in his 8 years with his wars and a failure to raise taxes and have a surplus during the good economic years.
Doesn’t Afghanistan look more like Vietnam with each passing day?

After reading some of these comments I really wonder why there is not even more hate crimes, political, economic and religous polarization in our United States of America ‘Democracy’!

I know this resource is a medium which encorages the ‘extremes’ in expressions — but folks, please try to play respectfully, if not responcsibly, regardless how much you feel on any point of view.

Whatweretheythinkin’? @2:14, I believe the difference is that Hitler, Stalin and the Khmer Rouge never admitted their fault and asked for forgiveness. Ms. Fonda has admitted that she was wrong, and has asked for forgiveness. There isn’t much more she can do. For those on here who are attacking Ms. Fonda, and who are Christians, I’d just remind you that we are called upon by Jesus to be a forgiven and forgiving people. It may be difficult sometimes, but thankfully, as Christians, along with our sister Jane, we are all redeemable in God’s eyes.

Well, yee haw Gomer!

As a 4 combat tour Vietnam veteran pilot in the USAF, I’m shocked that such a traitor to our Vietnam troops would ever work again in Hollywood but then Hollywood is far left anyway so i shouldn’t be suprised ! To bad she was not shot by a firing squad for treason. Is that law still on the books. If so, use it !
