Jay-Z promises to clean up lyrics in Blue Ivy’s honor

AP photo

Rapper Jay-Z will clean up his lyrics in his brand-new baby Blue Ivy’s honor.

Shawn Carter, as he probably is known on the little one’s birth certificate, says he will no longer use the word “bitch,” and he will zealously defend his daughter from anyone who might hurl it her way one day.

The web site NME posted a poem in which Jay-Z elucidates his new pledge:

“Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/I didn’t think hard about using the word bitch/I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it.”

Woe betide the person who slings epithets at his and Beyonce’s new baby. Jay-Z continues:

“No man will degrade her, or call her name. I’m so focused on your future, the degradation has passed. I wish you wealth, health and insight. Forever young you may pass. Blue Ivy Carter, my angel.”

Like they say, parenthood changes everything.

it was okay for him to call other females a b…. why is his daughter so special? You are a hypocrite. You should have cleaned up your langauge years ago, because you do have a mother and a wife. Is that how they feel about themselves or how you see them?

Why doesn’t he honor his own mother and quit using MF in his lyrics…..

Why doesn’t he honor his ROOTS and act like a human being, and not some stupid gansta wanna-be? How about he sets an example for those coming up behind him. How about he set an example for AMERICA’S YOUTH!!!!

How about he honor himself and quit using such horrible language. There’s no need for an “F” bomb to be dropped every third word.

Man this is why it’s so hard for people to change in this country. If you change for the better I don’t care what the reason was, I care that you made the change. Are we to assume that the people posting on this blog don’t curse…..and if not I’m sure their is something that keeps you from being perfect. And if a child hasn’t made you ever look at things in a different perspective then I digress

OK, he should have cleaned it up before, but having children changes everything. Your life is no longer just about you. There are some new parents who don’t change anything and their children are not trained up in the way they should go. The result is dysfunctional kids coming from dysfunctional parents. At least Jay-Z recognizes that his child should not hear that language coming from his mouth.

Congrats Daddy Jay-Z & Mommy Beyonce’!

Let me get this straight….you will defend her from anyone who hurls the “b” word at her? Jay-Z, you have been hurling that and much more trashy garbage at the female gender ever since you have been in the game! Hypocrite and a pitiful excuse of a man! If you truly have respect for your daughter, your sorry behind would have cleaned up your act even BEFORE you got married. If you truly want to make a difference, stop using all that sewage profanity! Stop faking the funk, man!

That’s fine if he doesn’t want to use the word anymore but don’t start getting sanctimonious the second you stop using it.

I’m a big Jay-Z fan, but he sounds like a fool! Its ok to throw the “B” word around at other peoples daughters, mothers, aunts, sisters, etc. but now that you have a daughter its time to change? GTFOH!!!!

I think it is entirely reasonable that he cares more about his daughter than the string of gold-diggers and groupies he has bedded over the years. I assume he hopes his daughter is better than his string of conquests over the years.

You will never take hate, anger, arrogance, ungratefulness, and just plain ignorance out of some folks.Worse than that are the ones who are just as ignorant and glorify these people and buy their music,if you want to call it music.Life is tough but it is tougher when you’re ignorant, lazy, and stupid.

Dispite the reckless fury he’s exercised in the past castigating man, women and child without any care for the impact on those he mercilessly attacked, I guess we have to allow the dude room to grow. Master P went through a simular transformation both as an artist and a businessman. Lets see if Shawn Carter can maintain the level of accountablity he’s projecting at this stage of his career. I would guess his new found “religion” will not include no longer offering for sale the songs that break that his new found code. Will also be curious to see if he still performs those songs on stage henseforth.

bad parenting: Well, I imagine the sting of an unusual name (which is actually much, much less strange than names like Barkevious, Baccari, D’Brickashaw, Slovakia, just to name a few college football players) will be blunted by the hundreds of millions of dollars her parents have.

I agree with the fact that he should have stopped for the sake of the other women in his life years ago (mother, wife), but I guess for some people it takes a major life altering event for them to see how other people feel when their daughters are called that. It’s not new. All men who degrade women still have a fit if/when it happens to their own daughters, but they can’t see these same women are somebody’s child who is loved just as much as their own and it doesn’t take money to determine the level of love. Even the poorest man can love his daughter more than himself (should anyway) simply because that’s all he has and values the gift his child is to him.

I feel it doesnt matter WHEN a person decides to change their PERSONAL BEHAVIOR towards mankind long as they recognize it needs to be done. Becoming a PARENT changes many, either for the BETTER or the WORST.In this case, it seems like 4 the BETTER. I dont agree he has 2 defend her when ppl use certain types of language long as they do NOT physically harm her, she has 2 go thru what other females has gone thru with the name callin we’ve become so immune 2. Teach her when someone calls her that, just ignore them like I do.We dont have 2 remind J of his language,he knows, so allow him 2 correct himself..Congrats again B&J. I love the name by the way, very creative and unusual.

Although I like JayZ, he’s a hypocrite. Sure, change is good no matter what comes along to make that change, but to say he’s no longer going to use the B word due to the birth of his daughter is a crock. If you read between the lines, what he’s saying is NO ONE deserves to be treated better than his daughter, not his MOTHER, his sister, NOR his wife!

Yeah, WTF, pass it to the left….

He is a hypocrite. Will he still use the word ‘ho’? As I have always, always said – money does not equal class. CLASS is something you’re born with – it is a bloodline, genetics in nature. All the money in the world will not allow him to move away from his equilibrium – which is an environment where these words are common.

A whole generation of kids have grown up with hip hop as their major influence. Sadly, many of these artists are ignorant and act accordingly. It is inevitable that many will realize their foolishness as they mature and learn. Let’s hope they then have an equally positive influence as they alter their behaviors. As with old celebrities, such as Grace Slick, they will eventually have to live with their “feed your head” lyrics.

I was going to go on with a long speech about the community damage that he has planted but I won’t.
Great for you Jay-Z. You finally pulling your head out of the Matrix and realizing the damage it causes. If you didn’t you wouldn’y be making a stance now. Too bad for the the youth you influenced.
Its great that you can protect your youngin from the environment you influenced.

This is the same guy that said he had “retired” from the rap game – only to come back later still making albums. Since that is his track record, I’m sure he’ll be back to calling ppl “b1tches” in no time!

Let’s see if he backs up his sanctimonious position with action and makes a call to the rest of the rap world to stop with the b*tches and ho’s crap in the “lyrics”. I kinda doubt it.

Wow, so if Jay-Z had a son would he have stopped using the N…word. Since this is sometimes used to refer to a black man’s “homey or bro…”

Maybe next time time around……….

Now if we can get the rappers to quit using the N word in any context BUT it is only bad when white people say it right? I think as long as it is on the lips of anyone these words are hurtful to someone!

He made his millions off this word and worse ones like it, so now he can relax in the fact that he has a daughter and doesn’t want others to use it? Noble to change your ways, but maybe you should have never peddled that filth in the first place to make it rich. Just like other comments on this blog have said, it was ok to call others this word and worse, but now that HE has had a child, the world is different and everyone should start doing as he does. Pathetic Jay-Z, so how about just give up music all together and work on making your basketball team better.
