Denzel Washington and friends enjoy night out in Atlanta

AP photo

Denzel Washington, who’s been in Atlanta filming the movie “Flight,” dined at STK Friday evening with a group of friends.

The actor apparently made some new friends while he was there. A neighboring table, evidently recognizing the A-lister, sent over a bottle of Dom Perignon.

The party ended about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Earlier that evening he was spotted at Ocean Prime.

“Flight” is an action thriller in which Washington plays a pilot struggling to overcome personal demons. It’s been filming in numerous metro Atlanta locations including St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Marriott Marquis downtown, an apartment complex off Glenridge Road and Fulton County Airport at Charlie Brown Field.

“A neighboring table, evidently recognizing the A-lister, sent over a bottle of Dom Perignon.”

Obviously, one of the pitfalls of celebrity status. Drinking expensive champagne from an adoring fan. It’s gotta get old.

I’d love to find out sometime.

I don’t usually get all hyped when I see a celebrity, but in Denzel’s case, I would probably have fainted. He’s not only a great actor, but is so handsome & classy & MARRIED. My husband knows I love Denzel too, in a celebrity way. LOL!! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

If he ain’t eat’n at Harolds and the Varsity, his visit is not complete. If I’m in Atlanta for 2 days, those two spots get hit……along with a roll of 1000mg tums of course……

@One, I thought I would too, but I saw him a couple years in New York when he was in “Fences” and got to shake his hand after the play. I didn’t faint, or do anything really except smile (even though my heart was beating a million beats a second, lol). I will say he has this ability to peer through you, something about his gaze is just so intense. That same intensity you see in the movies, he carries that in real life. It’s all in his eyes and the way he interacts with people. There is a quiet strength/confidence/swag about him that’s hard to put into words. It’s simultaneously attracting and intimidating.

At least that was my experience, others might have a different impression of him…

There is “something” about Denzel that is just “right”. He has a swagger like no other.

Denzel’s wife Pauletta wrote the foreword for ATL doc’s book, ‘Living Well Despite Catchin’ H***: The Black Woman’s Guide to Health, Sex and Happiness’! The book is mentioned in Jan’s Essence magazine that I just got. Denzel is always a treat to behold.

JB,

Harold’s BBQ is nothing to brag about in this city. The place is smelly, dirty and the food is terrible. Please don’t make people think that place is authentic Atlanta. It is an Embarrassment.

I had the privilege of being an extra in Remember the Titans, and he was very nice, conversational, and cordial. I also remember him waving a broom in a Stone Mountain Parking Lot after the Yankees swept the Braves that year.

I recall reading about Denzel’s visit to a military hospital (I think in Texas) for wounded soldiers and he asked the General about the housing which was a bit cramped for all the soldiers.
The General stated that they did not receive enough funding for the actual needs of the hospital at which point Denzel asked how much one of the units cost – the General stated approximately $125,000 per unit. Denzel wrote him a check for the $125,000! Great story and from all I hear, he truly is a great guy as well as a great actor! My favorite role is still when he played along Tom Hanks in Philadelphia! Good luck Denzel!

It’s nice to have something to cheer about in Atlanta! Having movies made here is a great influence for budding local film makers, actors, actresses, lighting, sound, extras – just all of it. Welcome to Atlanta Denzel, enjoy your stay :)
