Star sightings: Denzel Washington, Marisa Tomei, Vince Vaughn

Happy Tuesday. Here’s what I know.

Denzel Washington’s movie “Flight” was filming at the St. Regis in Buckhead on Monday.

Marisa Tomei, in town filming “Parental Guidance,” was spotted treasure hunting at the Scott Antiques Market over the weekend. She’s been seen at Souper Jenny a few times, too.

You know who else likes that place? Jason Bateman and Jessica Seinfeld. Random, I know. But they have both frequented Souper Jenny’s when in Atlanta for filming or appearances.

A tipster spotted Kim Zolciak in the gym of the Mansion on Peachtree during her wedding weekend. By the way here’s a link to a photo of the bride and groom, Kroy Biermann.

And Vince Vaughn, in town for “Neighborhood Watch,” has taken a real shine to Kyma.

He’s been in a couple of times now, each time with a group of friends or business associates.

Vince is vegan now so chef de cuisine Eric Cutillo and executive chef Pano Karatassos created a six-course vegan meal …

George Clooney considered suicide

Movie star George Clooney tells Rolling Stone magazine in its latest issue that he contemplated taking his own life in 2005 after a stunt injury while filming “Syriana” – a movie that later won him Oscar and Golden Globe awards for best supporting actor.

“I was at a point where I thought, ‘I can’t exist like this. I can’t actually live,’” Clooney said in the interview with the magazine. “I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you’re having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, ‘I may have to do something drastic about this.’”

The severe pain led Clooney to think about ways he could carry it out.

“You start to think in terms of, you don’t want to leave a mess, so go in the garage, go in the car, start the engine,” he said. “It seems like the nicest way to do it, but I never thought I’d get there. See, I was in a place where I was trying to figure out how to …

Washington & Lee University

Washington & Lee University

This is going to be short. I’m off today and Monday. Charles Gay, the AJC’s Sunday editor and my husband, are off to his alma mater, Washington & Lee University. We’re speaking at a journalism conference this weekend. Go Generals!

A couple of final tidbits before we dash off. Hollywood Life reports Kim Kardashian, who is in town filming scenes for Tyler Perry’s new movie, “The Marriage Counselor,” was spotted dining at the restaurant in the Midtown W. No confirmation of that from the restaurant yet. We’ll let you know if they nail it down for us.

We don’t have confirmation of where the soon to be ex-Mrs. Kris Humphries was staying but onThursday afternoon a phalanx of paparazzi on Kardashian duty were staking out the Buckhead Ritz-Carlton. If you were there trying to have tea, you might have wondered what that was all about.

In other Kim news, a source says Life and Style Magazine is in town revving up for “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member …

Ashton Kutcher, Joe Paterno and a big Twitter mess

AP photo

Actor Ashton Kutcher was among the first celebrities who really mastered Twitter. He even challenged CNN to see who could hit 1 million followers first, way back in the dawn of the celeb-tweet era – two whole years ago.

But a quick message about now-ousted Penn State Coach Joe Paterno, dashed off before Kutcher knew the whole story, has him reconsidering things.

About 1 p.m. Thursday, Kutcher tweeted a link to a blog post detailing how he unwittingly created a maelstrom of controversy. He said he caught a quick TV headline about Paterno losing his job and “assumed that he had been fired due to poor performance as an aging coach. ” Without knowing the actual story, Kutcher said, ” I posted a tweet defending his career.”

To put it mildly, that did not go over well. Once Kutcher had learned of the entire situation at Penn State, he said he “quickly went back on my Twitter account and found a hailstorm of responses calling me an idiot’ and several other expletives.” He …

Filming updates: Kim Kardashian, Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and more

Happy Thursday. Here’s what I know.

Kim Kardashian reported for her first day of filming on Tyler Perry’s new movie on Wednesday. It is called, curiously enough, “The Marriage Counselor.” Kim plays the main character’s gal pal, not the counselor herself.

The movie was filming on Wednesday at a facility on Decatur Street, near Moore Street just east of downtown (within sight of the Gold Dome where legislators’ tax breaks for the film industry have lured so many movie projects here).

Us magazine and other outlets were reporting Kardashian was acting sort of glum on set. Maybe she was just trying to learn her lines. Here’s a link to a photograph that was posted yesterday of the reality star going over her script.

The project moves next to Castleberry Hill. We’re told Kardashian and Vanessa Williams will both act in a “party scene” to be filmed in a loft apartment. A little shout-out for that neighborhood: The Castleberry Hill area was also the sight of filming for “The Reluctant …

Tyler Perry fans want Kim Kardashian banned from “Marriage Counselor”

AP

Kim Kardashian has arrived in Atlanta to film scenes for Tyler Perry’s upcoming movie, “The Marriage Counselor.”

Some of Perry’s fans want the reality show personality off the project.

A number of comments from Perry’s website demonstrate some folks’ desire to see Kardashian, who just filed for divorced 72 days after her made-for-TV wedding, gone.

“Kim Kardashian in your movie? Why have you stooped this low?” one person posted.

Wrote another: “I believe it is against your better judgment to have Kim Kardashian star as a supporting actress in your upcoming movie. You still have a moral responsibility to your supporters to maintain a level (of) integrity when (it) comes to casting your movies. I have to boycott this film if Kim Kardashian is part of this project.”

And another: “Mr. Perry when I first heard that you had select Kim to star in a role in one of your movies I dismissed it as typo. I’m not sure what you expect her to bring to your set.”

Other posters sounded more …

Interview with “Twilight” cast members

“Twilight: Breaking Dawn” cast members Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, Charlie Bewley and Nikki Reed visited Atlanta Monday night for a fan event that packed the Buckhead Theatre to the rafters. (Click here for more photos).

B 98.5 FM Morning Show team Vikki Locke, Kelly Stevens and Jessica Forkel moderated a question and answer session, and soundtrack artist Christina Perri performed. The place was teeming with screaming tweens (and let’s be honest, many of their equally excited moms!)

Luckily we got a few quiet moments back stage with the actors before the event began.

Here’s what we talked about.

AJC: Are you sort of sad that this is the next-to-last “Twilight” movie?

Greene: Maybe we’re in denial. We’re still going to see each other. It’s not over yet!

Reed: We …

Denzel Washington sighting, filming updates

Denzel Washington is here filming a movie called “Flight.” The action-adventure thriller also stars John Goodman, Don Cheadle and Melissa Leo.

The project did some shooting last week in the Sandy Springs-Dunwoody area, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and an apartment complex off Glenridge. This week the movie is filming in Covington.

In his downtime Washington’s been spotted a few times, most recently over the weekend. He and a couple of buddies dined Saturday night at The Tavern at Phipps. We’re told it was a quiet, low-key gathering.

“Flight” sounds like an intriguing film. The screenwriter, John Gatins, recently told MTV News that “It’s an R-rated drama, it’s like a movie from the ’70s that the studios don’t really make anymore.” Here’s a link to that story.

Tyler Perry filming in Va-Hi today; no Kim Kardashian sightings yet

AP photo

AP photo

Tyler Perry’s new movie is filming in the Virginia Highland area today. So far no sightings of Kim Kardashian, who announced recently that she’d signed on to play a part in the movie.

It is called, curiously enough given her 72-days of wedded bliss, “The Marriage Counselor.”

Kardashian’s usually busy Twitter feed has been pretty quiet lately. The only thing she’s posted since her “message to fans” explaining that she married for love but just couldn’t make things with Kris Humphries work, was a short tweet the other day: “God always has your back!”

Here’s a link to a Daily Mail post detailing Kardashian’s weekend meeting with her soon-to-be ex.

“Kim Kardashian has emerged from the home of her estranged husband Kris Humphries, where the couple are having crisis talks,” the article, posted Sunday, begins. “Still dressed in practical flight wear, Kim looked drained as she left the lavish lakeside property with Pastor Joel Johnson, who presided over their nuptials in …
