After performing her sold-out concert at the Tabernacle Friday night, Mary J. Blige celebrated with friends at Luckie Food Lounge at a party hosted by Hennessy.

Accompanied by her husband, Kendu Isaacs, Blige joined friends including Monica, Jeezy and DeVyne Stephens.

Here’s a link to a gallery of photos from the show.

There was lots for Blige, who has received the World Music Legends Award for combining hip hop and soul in the early 1990s, to celebrate following the concert.

A singer-songwriter, record producer and occasional actress, Blige is a recipient of nine Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards. Blige is the only artist with Grammy Award wins in pop, rap, gospel, and R&B categories.

@why?? No I don’t have any Grammys, but as I recall Milli Vanilli also won a Grammy for Best New Artist. We all know what happened with that, so what’s your point?

I LOVE Mary J, she’s an outstanding artist and performer. Been a fan ever since “My Life”. @ mugglemikki, if Ms. MJB hollers and gives you a headache, who do you consider a non-hollering artist??

@Mzsan, I like mostly old school artists like Gladys, Aretha, etc..but for the new school, a non-hollering artist is Adele. Listen to her song “Someone Like You” and you’ll see what I mean.

Hollas, but humbles! Surely you jest. MJB is one of the most amazing vocalists of our time; when you folk like Ella, Sarah, Gladys, Aretha, Patti (Austin and LaBelle), Anita to name a few because there really are so many more. Today’s record executives like looks more than talent which is what makes MJB more of a legend. She’s a very humble and talented woman who has not taken a back seat to the post-Destiny Child music era, when Beyonce, somehow became the standard. MJB’s stands alone in talent, humility, and beauty and she can do no wrong in my book because she’s authentic and there’s no drama or controversy or scandals surrounding her artistry. I’ll take MJB over any other artists who became relevant in the last days of the 90s and 21st century any day — with the exception of her contemporaries listed above, together with Chaka Khan, Phyllis Hyman, Sade, and of course, Ms. Whitney. These are God gifted women who had NOTHING handed to them on a silver platter, including a marketing machine, someone’s else’s swag, music, song and iconic legacy . . . MJB RULES . . . What God has put together (surely he has put MJB together) let no man put asunder; this woman can do no wrong . . . if she hollas, you know it . . . then why listen to her? You already know . . . lololololololol at her detracters . . .

ehhhhhhhhhhhhh!!@!

Besides, Mary sells music . . . never sold sex because she’s got the chops and don’t need to baffle us with sex appeal . . . when she can dazzle us with her artistic ability. Different strokes for different folks, but Mary is no joke . . .

Love Me some Mary J!

@mugglemikki, you must like her more than you admit. Not only did you take the time to read the article, you took the time to comment too. And are you kidding me, Aretha don’t holler! But it’s ok, haters make good motivators. One Love!

ehhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Umm it’s called an opinion and for you to write a dissertation on this subject proves you have waaayyy to much time on your hands. I don’t enjoy MJB’s music, I don’t listen to her music and I don’t buy her music. She hollas and she has no range. Period.

LOL.
I think it’s amazing how negativity always shows up on the message boards. OK, so you have an unfavorable opinion about Mary J. Blige’s singing ability, singing style and discussions about her personal struggles. So, what? Continue to not buy her CDs, tickets to her shows, etc. No matter what you do and say, she will still be Mary J. Blige, a talented singer, actress, songwriter, producer, business woman, etc. What are your talents? Professional negative person? :)
As a child, I was taught to close my mouth if I didn’t have anything nice to say. Some adults should do the same. Blige has millions of fans who love and support her. Your opinion and dislike of her is of no concern to her, her record company, family, friends, etc.
Anyone with ears cannot deny that she’s talented. Are there other singers with different–not better–voices than she? Absolutely. However, she’s still been blessed with a great voice. Get a life and find something else better to do with your time, than leaving negative comments about someone on newspaper message boards. :)

@Eric-no where did I read that a blog comment section was only for positive posts only. Get a life? You found it necessary to comment on a post I made voicing my opinion, but I’M the one that needs to “find something better to do”. LOL! Hilarious!

P.S. I don’t know MJB to like or dislike her as a person. I don’t like the way she “sings”.
I hope I broke it down well enough for you to understand.

I think she can sing and I have liked a couple of her songs. However, she seems to lack humility and constantly has a bad attitude when you see her. You know like her s**t don’t stink. She also has said that she doesn’t like people to remix her music. I wouldn’t like her at all, if they didn’t remix her music. Monica & Jeezy were the biggest names to hang out with her? Sad. She couldn’t even get NeNe?

Please folks. Why are we continuing to even respond to this mugglemoron??? Ignore the idiot and eventually he will disappear. The discussion at hand is about MJB…not some lonely, idiot trolling in a vain attempt to piss a few folks off…pathetic….well actually the idiot is comical…

My hubby purchased the new MJB album, My Life 2. Really good music. She even has a couple of country music songs on there. If you are a MJB fan, it’s worth the purchase. If you are not a MJB fan, don’t bother.

I love me some Mary J Blige… The concert was awesome, her new CD is awesome!!! She had a live band and her vocals sounded GREAT!! I definitley see the growth in Mary from the first My Life album to this My life album part II. I also had the chance to attend the “The Conversation” with Mary J at the W hotel the next day and enjoyed that as well. I will ALWAYS be a Mary J Blige fan….

Mary is my girl, she is at the top of her game in the genre that she caters too. No other female artist has the capability to sing with so much heartach and emotion. I think all women can relate to the stories she tells in her music. I will forever be a lifelong MJB fan!

not really sure how you can say the chile lacks humility when she self admittedly comes from such a humble background. leave the psychology to the folx who get paid for it. if you like her, listen to her, if you do not- go your way, why bad mouth her? and…i have heard a lot, but never that she went THAT way..#headachecity

@GIRL6 Perhaps you should leave writing to people that can do it. chile? You mean the country? Not sure how that applies here? folx? That must be a new incorrect way to spell folks. Many people come from humble backgrounds. That does not mean they have humility. Lot’s of people lose it along the way. So it’s not ok to say something negative about MJB, but it is ok for you to make negative comments about other people that comment? Hmm. Perhaps you should be careful about throwing stones from your glass house. They will get thrown back at you.

mary j has admitted to having been on the street at one time, and i think–not sure, but also to having been in abusive relationships. i am not a fan of the lifestyle she led, but i am not going to judge her based upon it. as far as her singing? i like it…NOW. she takes some getting accustomed to. i saw her at chastain once and she gave a fab concert. many times people see self confidence as arrogance and that is the issue of THOSE people, not the issue of individuals who have overcome hardships to live positive lives.

I’m a fan of Mary’s and always will be. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey she’s taken her fans on with every album. Singing styles differ. I wouldn’t put Bob Dylan & Luther Vandross in the same category, but believe me when I say Bob Dylan has sold more albums worldwide than Luther (lol!). Go figure.

Ms. Blige (aka Mrs. Issacs) has shown all of us that you can sell millions of albums and have legions of fans worldwide without shaking, grinding on the stage 1/4 dressed. I’m not knocking the hustle of the Beyonces and Madonnas, I’m just glad Mary J. Blige exists & is successful in her own right…..
