Tyler Perry defends casting Kim Kardashian

AP

AP

Tyler Perry had no idea Kim Kardashian would cause him so much grief.

“I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian,” he said in a letter to fans posted on his web site. “Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title: Tyler Perry’s ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.’ ”

Kidding aside, he explains the movie thusly:

“This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city. After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair.”

Kardashian fatigue seems to be setting in. From http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/no-more-kardashian.html

Kardashian fatigue seems to be setting in.

And so on. Perry’s movies do well at the box office but he may have a challenge convincing people to spend money to see (more of) Kardashian. This online “Boycott Kim Kardashian” petition has more than 100,000 virtual signatures.

But Perry defends his decision to cast her.

“What better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God? What is wrong with that?”

Tyler Perry signed Kim K. to do the movie before her marriage to Kris.
Business is Business. Kim personal life has nothing to do with the making of Tyler Perry movie. Keep on doing what you are doing. I love you Tyler Perry.

WTH …We dont have the right to complain about things we dont like? We have the monetary power when it comes to Perry movies. I know most of you would have no problem sitting on the back of the bus but for me I would have complained so that I could sit anywhere I wanted to . And what ended that policy btw was monetary power…black folks stopped riding the bus and they relented. Black people need to flex their monetary power more often regardless of who it is Tyler Perry, Steve Spielberg,,,,,whomever. We need to stop glorifying Kim K…pleeeez.

Mr. Perry probably had no other choice but to go ahead and “pay”, I mean cast Ms. Kardashian for her role. As business savvy as those folks are – it would have cost him more to get rid of her than to keep her. But then he kills me trying to justify her being the perfect person for role she has in this movie. Love Ya Tyler – but I won’t be paying to see this one. Not that you care because you have hard working single mothers who see your movies and plays because they can relate. Very disappointed. Very disappointed!

Wont see:

No stereotypes here. You would not see it, but I see that black people have see the enemy and it is us.

Is it the reality that almost three out of four black women looks like a linebacker who don’t know football rules?

Is it reality that every time we see the face of the type of crime that terrifies us, murder, home invasion, carjacking, strong armed robbery, hit and run, burglary, theft…it is one of us?

Is it reality that we are the epicenter of trash TV, low self esteemed women, self doubting, low confidence and low self esteem women they are ours?

Is it reality that we are the face of criminal high school drop outs?

Which stereotype are you talking about?

Mr. Perry probably had no other choice but to “pay”, I mean cast Kim Kardashian. As business savvy as that family is, it would have cost him more to replace her than to keep her. Sorry Mr. Perry – love your work, but I will not be supporting this one and to hear you justify why she is a perfect candidate for this movie makes me laugh!

I’m a TP fan and have seen most of his movies. I, like the rest of the world, is just a little tired of seeing KK plastered all over everything. Enough. There are too many starving actresses TP could have casted in this roll. I will not be supporting this latest movie. But I might watch it on the internet for free…the same day it comes out. How bout that…..

I don’t think anyone really had a problem with Kim K. appearing in this movie until her 72 day marriage stint. There are still some people who value marriage in this country and realize that you cannot say you “gave it your best” after only 72 days. If she wants to pull stunts, schemes, and other trickery to get attention she can have it. But save the institution of marriage for men and women who are serious about making a life together.

As far as the Perry movie it sounds lame just reading the plot (if that’s what he wants to call it). I have to agree with Spike Lee, Perry’s movies are just a bunch of baffonery. Since there is nothing serious, in depth or enlightening about his movies — Kim K., is a perfect match.

Tyler you usually pick people with good morals for your films. This is a disgrace to have this TRAMP in one of your movies, plus she can’t act except when shooting porno. “Come on man”. Get rid of this trick.

For the record…Kim K is NOT white! People STOP saying that. It’s really sad when a child looks up to people like Kim K though. She is self-centered and the ONLY reason why she got married for the 2nd or 3rd time is because her sister is married and got married really quick without taking time out to get to know her husband.

At any rate I do love Tyler Perry and he can put whomever he want in his movie. Her part is really small. I was against it at first, but after I thought about it long and hard…I still probably will not go to see this movie nor will I purchase it.

I am not nor ever have been a Kim K fan. She is entitled to make money with her own name. There is nothing wrong with that. I just wish that Mr. Perry would have chosen one of the females from his former plays to play the part of the Marriage Counselor. That is the reason why I will not spend one red cent on this movie. I choose not to. This will be the first Tyler Perry film I will not invest in. That is my choice.

Back to Kim..as far as that porn dvd getting out…that was for her and Ray J to watch ONLY not anyone else. I don’t see anybody saying anything negative about him in that flick. At any rate those of you – like myself – that choose not to watch this film, then fine. Like anything else..there is no need to boycott Kim K or this movie. Put your money where you mouth is. :)

Teri expressed it well. There are sooo may black actresses and even hispanic and or white actresses who can actually act and would have greatly appreciated the opportunity to appear in one of your films and be a role model for young girls and young adults but you just had to go there. How unfortunate. Again I ask, how has she shown that she deserves this kind of opportunity?? This choice is a slap in the face to sooo many legitimate actresses, black, white, hispanic….

Furthermore….to BOGWHAN…you said the Mr. Perry usually pick people with good morals for his movies..how do you know that? You don’t know that. Kim K is famous and THAT is why all of her business is out there. You do not know if everyone who has ever been in his movies or shows have good morals. It’s his money let him do what he want with it. It’s his right. Just like it’s my right not to support this film. I will continue to support his other work, but not this film.

Tyler nor Kim could give a rat’s patootie if we come to see this film (that’s your right), because both will be counting money from their next venture despite all of the disdain any of us post here. They both have enough money to live a very fortunate life even if they do not do another movie, appearance, book, or whatever they choose to do, from this day forth.

Tyler Perry will care when his niche audience doesn’t go see the movie. There are lots of beautiful, talented actresses black and white more suited for the part. She is a pretty girl but that’s about all. She is over done and everyone is tired of seeing her. This movie will be a flop. You say the movie is about making wrong choices and in my opinion this is a wrong choice!!!

How Holy we feel as we rip Kim Kardashian to shreds for her moral indiscretions, none of which have been described here- except her porno movie- which is not much compared to the number
of black women who got their 5 minutes as a video ho.

Kim Kardashian knows photo ops, strategic PR opportunities and dollar signs – that trick doesn’t know anything about JESUS, GOD, JEHOVAH, nor does her family Tyler Perry. I hope the network does cancel EVERY kardashian television show. Their empire is a multi-million dollar brand stemmed from T & A. F the kardashians. And no I will not support this movie! I’m glad people are FINALLY being vocal about the kardashians empire of nothingness!

People get your facts straight, Kim was not a PORN star, she was a young beautiful woman dating a B-rated star (Brandy’s brother) and they did what many of you holier than thou BLACK/WHITE women do, they made a sex tape, I have dated both and trust many a tape has been made (whoop d whoo) it was that so-called star that released the tape and Kim actually sued Vivid to not release it but since it was out she did the American thing and capitalized on it ( and got paid by Vivid). I dare any of you so-called black supports of Tyler Perry to say that if in her shoes you wouldn’t do the same thing. Get off the soap box and stop the nonsense, last time I checked there some 6+ billion people in the world and I am sure for the 100 thousand “petition signatures” there are at least 3 million that will support Mr. Perry and Kim K. Stop blocking your blessings by worrying about how others got where they are and get moving, so God can work in your own lives!

Amen Brother,

Perry can do anything he wants as long as he keeps his dress on, is what I get from this blog. I just hope this is not another ” Meet the Clowns”. You are right if a person of another race made productions like this stuff. We would have Al, and Jesse lighting a fire under their a@&%. Perry has done some good for the ATL area at a time when it is really needed and deserves the accolades. I’m sure Amos & Andy was really funny the first time you saw it.

People can agree or disagree reasonably about Tyler Perry’s movie for their relevance and social value.
Lethal Weapon, Training Day and others were great for social value. Fact is that every black person knows Madea. Those who say they do not are lying through the teeth.

However, to use race, jealousy, hate, character assassination, innuendo, homophobic imagery, and such to chop up Mr Perry and to degrade Ms Kardashian is the thing and a particular skill of many southern black people who continue to look, act, and think like plantation people.

All y’all in the industry is counting dollar signs and the poor public are the victims here; but then again, people are like sheep . . . they will just follow trends, etc., that really adds nothing to society, but plenty for these corporate hogs’ bottom line; stop lying, Tyler: you hired Kim to get some of that Kardashian money, as if all that you have been blessed with is not enough . . . you might get some, but you just lost one . . . no thanks! If I behaved like Kim did, my grandmammanem would have so many words for me, so Tyler you gets no pass for drinking the kardashian kool aid. Not convinced. Sorry.

Can we start a petition to get rid of the rich, loud mouth arrogant NENE LEAKES. I am super tired of people parading her around these talk shows with all that anger and venow spewing. Wendy W. could not even interview her because she became so combative and defensive. She took over the interview and Wendy never slowed her down……Wendy did tell her she needed real people around her because she is a mean-spirited person……. I am also tired of this grown @ss woman talking about haters and peoples being jealous of her like she is a 16 or 17 year old teenager. When your husband blasted you on that radio show; that should have told you, you were going to far and to slow down. If you don’t slow it, something is going to slow you. Be proud of who you are and what you have accomplished and stop running to these media outlets talking about people being jealous of you.
