“The Vampire Diaries” is filming today near downtown

Someone just forwarded this notice alerting workers to be on the lookout for vampires today:

“A television production crew will be shooting scenes for an upcoming episode of ‘Vampire Diaries’ near Georgia-Pacific Center today. They will close small sections of several downtown streets between 1-8 p.m. Although, you may notice preparation activity earlier.

The streets impacted are the south curb lane of John Wesley Dobbs Avenue between Peachtree Center Avenue and Peachtree Street; and between John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Auburn Avenue. These streets will be closed intermittently while the cameras are rolling (no longer than 90 seconds).

In addition, curbside parking on Park Place between John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Auburn Avenue will be reserved for vehicles being used in the filming.

Atlanta police officers will be on site to direct traffic.”

Just up the road, of course, “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” has been filming in Midtown, near the Woodruff Arts Center. A busy day for Atlanta’s growing movie and television industry!

They get tax breaks to film their crap here…..and all we get in return is traffic disruptions and having to adapt to THEIR schedules to get real work done? Unimpressed.

Great at 4:19. You really don’t know what you’re talking about. :) The movie crews here are hiring/employing a huge number of folks here in Atlanta….I wish we had 100 more of these films.

Here is an article discussing both the tax breaks and the estimated economic impact film projects have had in Georgia:

People complain when the Vampire Diaries films in Covington, but fail to realize the economic impact the show has, we have tourists come from all over the world to see the filming locations, just the last thursday the local newspaper showed two women who traveled here to visit Covington just to see filming locations and lucky for them the show was in town filming that day, it didn’t say if they got to meet the actors or not but hey they stayed in the motels, ate here and shopped, so they helped the local tax base, also when your property or home gets used in the show you get compensated nicely.

Thanks for the link Jennifer, but they don’t show any “hard numbers”. I know it’s not 100% quanitfiable, but is there anything showing something more than some guy saying “oh yeah….they spent $1 billion here”?
