J-Lo/Cameron Diaz movie turns Atlanta into Ethiopia for a day

A prop plane plays the role of an Ethiopian airliner in "What To Expect When You're Expecting"

The Cameron Diaz-Jennifer Lopez movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” has been filming at Piedmont Park, Little Five Points and at Smith’s Olde Bar.

Recently the movie, also starring Chris Rock, Chace Crawford and Anna Kendrick, took over Charlie Brown airport for some scenes.

Our on-set spy got us a few photos of the airport (officially called Fulton County Airport at Brown Field) on the day the filming took place there.

376954492The scenes filmed there are set in Ethiopia. (Casting calls also have sought Ethiopian extras.) In one photo you’ll notice the airplane that is parked outside the airport says Trans Ethiopia.

Also, you’ll notice that the Ethiopian flag is flying outside the front of the airport (we’re assuming the camera angle will crop out the Fulton County Airport sign).

The movie, compared to “Love, Actually” for its ensemble format, follows a number of different couples who are becoming parents for the first time. (Someone’s adopting a baby from Ethiopia, it sounds like!)

Extras casting calls have sought moms with newborns and expectant moms.

We’re also told that parts of the film take place during winter, and so cast members have been bundled up in heavy coats during this recent spell of 90 degree-plus days.

Yikes!

I’m about to pass out just thinking about it.It’s been a brutal summer thus far with the constant 90 degree plus heat.

It is! I went to an advance screening of the help and someone in the audience told Viola Davis, “You ARE going to win an Oscar.” The whole theater burst into applause. It was a great moment.

IF HOLLYWOOD CONTINUES TO GROW HERE THERE ARE GOING TO BE A FE CHANGES LIKE:

1)CHAMBER TAG LINE : from Trailers (movies ) to Trailers ( homes) we have it all
2)NAME CHANGE : GEORGE MUCAS ( from the pollen )
3) DIRECTORS NEW COMMANDS : LIGHTS! CAMERAS! CROP THE PAN HANDLERS!
4)OSCAR DESIGN : WILL HAVE TO CHANGE TO THE “SO SO DEF” MUG SHOT LOGO

im just joking but am really glad we are growing in this industry :) way to go Georgia!!!!

Well, at least they have plenty of Ethiopean restaurants in the area if they want to try the cuisine. There’s also a large Ethiopean and subsaharan community here. I swear 85% of the cabbies in Atlanta are Ethiopean or a nearby country. I always get restaurat reccomendations.

You really don’t get the true flavor of Atlanta until your car window gets busted out to steal your navigation device or the front door of your house is kicked in as a smash and grab for your flat screen.

Hmmmmm….winter scenes, eh? Winter in Ethiopia is no where like a winter in the states… IT’S WARM, DAMMIT! What are the set decorators and the line producers going to do about the leaves? You can’t paint them like I did in 1980 for “The Four Seasons”.

TNT: No “The Help” was filmed in Mississippi.

GAThespis: I don’t know that the cold winter scenes and the scenes set in Ethiopia are one and the same. I sort of doubt it. :)

These crackahs on this thread making these vile and vulgah comments about our beloved city should pack up and leave. Might I suggest Boise, Id? I believe the ethnic minority population there is about 0.2%. You should all be very happy.

There are several locations in Atlanta that already resemble Ethiopia, so the cast/crew should save a ton of money on creating fake backdrops….this is after all the Chocolate City, dark chocolate

Now, now. I won’t feel “complete” until we have heard where these immortal stars have dined and if they actually had the brown butter on the side. Now that would be important news. Is anyone dining at the same restaurant as these celebs able to actually allow their food to go down or are they so fixated on the “stars” that they can’t digest their own food. Also, what about the help at these places, do they actually get anything done for the rest of us paying customers when a celeb is dining in their establishment? Just curious? Oh how we just can’t take our eyes off of a celeb, as though they are otherworldly, beyond anything human. Silly, just so damn silly!

WELL, I CANNOT even start think there are people who perfected to listen CNN & FOX in this GOOGLE age? Don’t even know what looks like life outside of their circle, today’s Ethiopia is not the Ethiopia you were told (misinformed)! One of the fastest growing country, top 10 in the world. GDP, growth 10% for the last 10 years, Never colonized, kicked Mosolloni (Italian) ass, 85 Million young population, very historical and Christian, mentioned over 44 times in the Bible, even Jesus said ‘the queen of Shiba comes from Ethiopia’, Ethiopian airline is one of the best in the world, Does Ethiopia has a challenges, yes, enormous as it is everywhere.

Most of you, safe Mr. Coorony, seem to have NO idea about which ETHIOPIA you are talking about. For your info Ethiopia is the oldest, independent African country with Proud and polite people who NEVER have to set a day for independence! Born independent and free!! With culture, tradition and language diversity. With great economic potential. Widen your outlook of the world, more importantly most of you need extensive upgrade in your thinking and world status…..

I think it is good to show the truth when a film is made. First there is no as such airport in Ethiopia and no TransEthiopia. This is bad for a nation that is trying to develop and change its image.

A lot of people here talking like the know Ethiopia and what it looks like. It’s a shame to see such a number of people eager to speak openly and publicly speak about stuff they don’t know about. Just sad. But I blame the media only reporting what’s bad or wrong in Africa and never the good. Still can tell if it’s a planned conspiracy or ignorant idiocracy!

I have lived in the U.S. for 23 years and served in its elite military for 12 years. The United States is a beautiful country with beautiful people. Yes it has its problems like crime and other social issues. The major problem that I see in the U.S. is ignorance of some of its people who are not knowledgeable about the world outside the U.S. For some, these ignorance feels like arrogance but even in my birth country of Ethiopia the country people think that shaking a white person’s hand will make them sick because they are ignorant. They think being white is sickness; therefore, they shake a white mans hand with a closed covered hand. Actually, these days that is becoming rarity as people started to become aware of the world. The same goes here, that most of the comments I read are caused by ignorance. As people start to travel more, that will change.
