Salma Hayek: I love being rich

AP photo

AP photo

While the bloggerati are busy tweeting and retweeting Warren Buffett’s New York Times column demanding the super wealthy pay higher taxes, actress Salma Hayek is telling Allure magazine how totally awesome it is to be loaded.

“I never understood the point of being privileged if you don’t get to have the privileges,” the actress says in the magazine’s September edition. She is married to French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, whose family is worth $11.5 billion, the article reports.

Although Hayek discussed her love of yachts and private jets with Allure, she does keep it real. No cosmetic surgery for this beauty.

“I’ve never had anything done on my face,” she said.

Where in the article did Salma Hayek even imply that she should not pay her fair share of taxes? Ryan, are you one of the filthy rich who doesn’t pay our fair share of taxes or do you think that the middle class should continue to bear the burden? Or is it just an Obama thing?

Good for her! I hope she spends lots of money buying goods and services that will produce lots of jobs. I say, if you’ve got it, flaunt it. She is not only beautiful but talented, too. You go girl!

No cosmetic surgery for this beauty.
“I’ve never had anything done on my face,” she said

But plastic surgery just about everywhere else.

This has to be the dumbest article ever. Once again, why do we care what some washed up actress who slept her way in to a lot of money thinks? As for Buffet, why do we care what some 90 yr old guy who has profited for the last 30 yrs on inside information without being prosecuted thinks? Here is the deal, if everyone would just take care of themselves and their family the world would be a better place. Start with Buffet who disagrees with his granddaughter’s political viewpoints so he ostracized her from the family and now she is broke living on welfare (our $). C’mon man.

Of course, only the grunts should pay taxes, thats why the rich are rich. They can afford to pay tax attorneys to find the loopholes. Grunts, like me, bless our hardworking hearts are too busy trying to figure out how to pay mortgage, water, garbage, gas, electricity, fuel, and food bills….if there is any money left for food that is; oh and let’s not forget mortgage insurance, health insurance, auto insurance, life insurance, blah, blah, blah….Life is so wonderful for the honest, hardworking class. We should continue to pay everyday, all the time….it builds character….

She is out of touch with reality for sure. If these mega rich actors and athletes would get paid what they should which is a normal salary like the rest of the world, then maybe they would be able to look past getting their every whim and see the real problems most Americans deal with on a daily basis. Unbelievable article and comments by Ms. Hayek.

I am never going to be jealous of the wealthy. Would we all could so enjoy the fruits of our labor. My beef is with everyone not paying their fair share. What about you, Gus. Are you paying your fair share or are you one of the super wealthy who can get a bunch of tax breaks. The only break us middle class folk have is home ownership and there’s talk of taking that break away! Again I ask, where in the article did Salmy Hayek say that she is opposed to paying her fair share of taxes?

If what you do in life brings you the $$$, good for you. If I had been born a man, built for sports, I’d have done it in a minute. If I had the talent of singing, I’d have done it. Smart enough to have come up with the latest inventions…great! I am none of the aforementioned. However, my mother told me to learn how to type it will come in handy!!! One piece of advice I could have done without. Can type about 100 wpm, but typing doesn’t pay very well. Oh well…in my next life :)

@justjanny: the “wealthy” in the USA pay a higher share of the total tax collected than any other industrialized country. how is that not paying their share? they are paying more than their share. i work hard for my money and make choices that allow me to continue to make good money. what pisses me off is when others decide that they “deserve” my money just because they are alive. get out and work for a living.

Print the entire comment from Allure:
Hayek says of her daughter, who speaks English, Spanish, and French: “I never understood the point of being privileged if you don’t get to have the privileges. Like, people who won’t take their kids to an expensive restaurant, or won’t travel with them, or make them pay for everything at a really young age. I think it’s important that kids have responsibilities and understand the value of things, but I think it’s great that my daughter gets to travel the world.”

Stop with the class wars. It is tacky. You cover swanky events all the time Jennifer, now you vilify the rich? Don’t be surprised if you are not granted admission anymore.

Wow Ryan, you SAWB right-wingers crack me up with your foolishness. First, I will guess that you are not wealthy (only 10% of the US population is), so the crap coming out of your mouth doesn’t even apply to you. Second, her husband is French & she is Mexican born (bet you didn’t know that), so what does that have to do with the American Dream? Third, it’s “hard-earned”, idiot! By the way did you even read the article. It makes no mention of our (yours and mine) President, nor Warren Buffet. “It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!”

I hope she spends that money on goods and services so jobs will be created. If we moved to the FairTax, products produced in America would be cheaper and this would lead to more jobs coming home to benefit from our transparent tax code, rather than running from our tax code of political favors.

@Whatever 2:30pm – I totally agree with your comment. Why @Hardworker felt the need to get on a soapbox about her problems and lack of judgement is beyond me. By the way “Hardworker”, everyone on assistance is not a crack head. Some people abuse the system and some people actually need temporary help. Do not vilify the poor either.

Hard Worker said it all; for every genuine case of the disadvantaged getting temporary help to get back on their feet, there are 10 for whom the government will be their sole source of support forever…

In my world, you get 6 months of unemployment, WIC, whatever, and then you’re on your own. We’ll take care of your kids through adoption, temporary care, etc., but you will not live off the government nor any money needed for your kids’ well being.

And, I’m sick of hearing about someone’s ‘bad back’ that won’t let them work. We have a man in my office who only has use of his left hand – that’s it, just his hand – from the neck down. Yet he’s at work every day, driving himself to and from home. He’s in constant pain, but he works – and does a terrific job as an accountant.

As for Warren Buffet wanting to pay more taxes, of course he does. He is beyond wealthy, no matter what the tax rate. So, it helps him sleep a little better, knowing he’s going to bat for the less fortunate, who he likely has never been around or seen.

I totally agree with you. Only by the grace of the gene pool are we given the athletic bodies to perform to the levels of NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. Either you have the skill or you don’t. Take my son…he has two left feet and can’t hit a ball if his life depended on it. BUT give him a MATH equation? He’ll solve it with eyes closed and while focused on X-Box. Unfortunately, NO ONE is paying great minds $$$. Great minds do not run Wall Street – that’s just trust fund babies who had the good luck of having their rich parents pay/buy their way through Harvard and then call their crony friends on Wall Street who owe them a favor. “hire my son Johnny”. And then the cycle starts ALL over.

So @dumbestever, let me get this straight…

Are you so bold as to suggest WB is somehow WRONG FOR NOT “REDISTRIBUTING” HIS WEALTH to said grandaughter?? I am also guessing that said granddaugter is a staunch Conservative, seeing as how Warren is obviously a “Flaming Liberal”. I thought Conservatives were all self-sufficient and pulled themselves up by their bootstraps?? We all know there are no Conservatives on welfare, just shiftless Commie Liberal Black folk, right??

Rick
