Rapper Soulja Boy cranked it but good for his 21st birthday this week. He celebrated by springing for a Gulfstream G5 jet, People reports.
The new ride is tricked out with upgrades including “custom Italian leather seats, flat screen TVs, four liquor bars, a customized travertine-tiled floor, a revamped bathroom and Brazilian hardwood cabinets,” People reports, citing a TMZ post.
Total price tag of Air Soulja: $55 million. (Forbes estimated his 2010 earnings at $6 million. Hmm.)
The young artist is throwing himself a birthday bash in Miami tonight, and his guest list includes Sean Kingston, Bow Wow and Dwight Howard.
You’re invited, too! Well, sort of.
If you’d like to join in the Pretty Boy Swag online, you’re welcome to stream the party video from Soulja’s website.
Sorry but watching the party on your computer involves a fee. Can you blame Soulja? He’s got a new plane to pay for, you know.

Doesn’t add up unless he hit the Powerball a few weeks ago. No hit singles in past 3 or 4 years, horrible album sales. Possibly could be touring oversees to make some $, but not that kind of money. If he has some great investments and he tripled his money, then good for him (but I’m not buying it).

Can’t wait to have him take my drink order at the club when he turns 31. A $55 million jet? When you’re a virtual lock to be a flash in the pan? I love the guy’s music, but come on, Soula Boy. Open a savings account. You made enough last year to retire on if you were smart. Give MC Hammer a call and ask him about life in the fast lane.

IRS wanted to know how did I earn one amount..and Spend TWICE that much..hmm just give him a minute and you will hear IRS coming at him claiming he didnt pay taxes for 2009-10. Just ask Westly Snipes. First who gives a Rats azz about how much money he plucked down on a plane. Second. How could he spend more then hes Made? Whatever. If ANYTHING, SB, buy yourself some PROPERTY that will appreciate instead of an airplane that is NOT worth 55 mil.
I hope the young brotha took into account how much it will cost to even keep this thing in the air, insurance, maintenance, crew, etc.

This doesn’t even begin to make sense. He’d need 20 to 30% down to buy this, and he doesn’t even have that. I’m thinking it is a publicity stunt, there’s no airplane at all. I see no business plan (which is how these airplanes are usually bought), I see no leaseback offers or charter offers on a blinged-out ostentatious toy like this – nobody who can afford this would rent or charter this airplane “Oh, that’s SB’s jet!”, sorry, no thanks, this kind of serious money buys anonymity. His cost of operation is going to more per year than he makes. Bank financing – you must be kidding. Seller financing equally unlikely. Bought from savings/investments – no way he’s made 55mm in 3 or 4 years. I think we’ve been had, its simply not true.

Repo a jet – not difficult. You need a type rated pilot and a court order, most of these things only have a key on the door and there are not many different keys. There’s NO ignition key, just a master switch (big red toggle switch) – if you know what you are doing and can get access to the airplane, you can just fly it away. The court order stops anyone from interfering with you. This isn’t a $100 rent to buy car where they just call a tow truck, any lender with the resources to lend on an asset of this value is going to have TEAMS of lawyers, SWARMS of lawyers to protect their interest. SB is about to meet the real world, and he won’t like it . . .
Really Now??

The epitome of “Swag”, the arrogance and ignorance of youth! On the other hand, he was a self made millionaire (not billionaire) by 17, with the use of music (if we older people choose to call it that), technology and the independent spirit. So obviously some of the youth do know something. He should hire Thomas Stanley as a financial consultant.
Hmmm! He’s an Atlanta based artist, so if it’s true the plane will probably be housed at Charlie Brown Field. I’m going to wait a few weeks and then go see for myself. I wonder if it’ll be parked in the hanger next to the two G whatevers that Creflo Dollar has or the one G whatever that Eddie Long has.

Now really how much is he going to fly, and the last time I checked the price of fuel is through the sky, I guarantee after 1 year of maintenance and fuel for this expensive jet, he will be selling it or broke. Why does a person need 4 bars in a jet, why not have 1 with all the liquor you can drink, im sure it’s not going to be a line at the bar. I’m not hating just a realist. I am sure that in a couple of days it will come out that he LEASED a jet, not bought one. He doesn’t have the income to support such a large purchase. Some people will believe anything!
As for MCHammer jokes, please learn more about this man. He bought a house he shouldn’t have, but he also employed about 100 people to keep them off the street. I really admire what he did, just wish he would’ve made better decisions regarding his home. For the record, he was never broke. He always said that. The rapper and a few of his close friends will take a luxury ride. The plane is being piloted by Marty Colbert and Steven Bilter. Come on people, let put things in perspective, Bill Gates dosen’t own a $55 million dollar jet. Now calm down you idiots!!

The way it works is this: a corporation is formed to purchase and own the plane. The owner then uses an air leasing firm such as NetJets to lease the plane out when not being used by the owner. The owner pays the corporation for his use of the plane, which is usually tax-deductable as a business travel expense. I know several business people who own theirplanes who hav e told me that with the business expense deduction and corporate tax deductions, their use of the plane is pretty much at no cost to themselves.

While I agree that if he actually purchased the G5 for 50 Million outright, it was probably a dumb idea, it may be possible that he had money in a trust.
Also, we must remember that his first album did really well, not only with sales, but also with ringtones. I believe he wrote and produced which means he got 100% of the mechanical royalties. Also, it may be a great write-off for him. As a deducting musician, he may have been looking for a large deduction to lower his income. I’m sure he has accountants and someone to guide him a little…

It wouldn’t matter if it cost 200 million dollars, he’s not planning on paying for it. They will repo it in a year. Standard practice for that segment of society. 400K house, 80k Mercedes, 20K Salary. I’m just curious as to which STUPID lender signed off on that one.

Buying something and renting it are very different. Most rappers rent cars and limos for video shoots. This is probably no different. His music sucks, so his publicist has to use stupid stunts like this to get him publicity.

Let’s do the math. (even APS can figure this one out) you made $6M, buy a plane for $55M, that puts you in the hole by $49M. -$49M before fuel costs, pilot’s salary, airport tax, storage fees, aircraft maintance fees, taxes on your $6M, plus taxes on your plane purchase. Your lawyer, accountant, your gear, your girl’s gear, gifts for your family, let’s not forget about your crib, your “bling”, and the cost to be on OPERATION REPO. Sorry, the tapeing of OPERATION REPO is free.

Please read Justsaying’s post at 8:33 p.m. of yesterday, which seems to make a lot of sense. No way this guy could afford to purchase a $55 million jet in this economy. He simply would not qualify for loan based on his net worth–and earning potential. Jennifer should not have mislead us with this idiotic column.
Let’s say this guy bought a $5 jet outright; it still would end up being this guy’s financial undoing. Just ask, I believe, Scottie Pippin, formerly of the Bulls (although I believe his cost $17 mil. or so if I recall right), who will now (like Willie Nelson) do about anything for $. Private jets are HUGE money pits, what with maintenance (particularly), fuel, storage, insurance, and taxes. I think even the celebs and sports figures by now have figured this out. Simple alternative to them is charters and fractional interests.

Hard to sustain all that. Especially with zero, or very limited, talent.

Let’s see, the last blog in which I commented was related to how far behind Blacks were economically, and now this no-talent, illiterate f**k buys a jet? But since we’re “all” invited, I guess that makes it okay.

Gives me a headache and a pain in my rear to see these hip-hop artists make millions and millions of dollars with their so-called “music.” Along with tattoo’s, rap music is the biggest “fad” of our age.

Here we go, Blacks are behind economically, now he’s a F__k. I agree, he wasn’t the smartest in his class, but I know of some other dumb people when he it comes to money and they aren’t all black either. So let’s leave the race card out of this.

What a misguided kid, if true. Who are the people around him, could be an endorsement, the full story to be told later. He wouldn’t listen to Hammer even if he tried to give ‘what not to do’ financial advice.
