Jennifer Lopez shot some scenes at Smith’s Olde Bar last night.

If you were driving in that area (or trying to) you probably didn’t make really great time.

“I had no idea it was there and it took me 30 minutes to drive a mile tonight,” one of our Facebook friends, Katerina Lewis, posted on our wall last night.

Yikes!

Well, here are some photos showing what was going on. These are from celeb photographer Andrew Snook, who braved the long and muggy night to capture these frames.

If you’d like to see more of his work visit his web site. He is awesome!

J-Lo also has been filming downtown, at the Hilton on Baker Street, and Ventanas, a special events facility.

A tipster said she was spotted at Legal Sea Foods, which is right in that area, near Centennial Olympic Park. We’ll have to check with our friends at the Georgia Aquarium to see if she’s able to work in a side trip to visit the dolphins or belugas. The Aquarium often hooks up visiting celebrities with their finned residents.

If you were driving near Smith's last night you didn't get anywhere too fast. Photos by Andrew Snook, www.andrewsnook.smugmug.com

The movie also filmed in Midtown, near the High Museum of Art, on Tuesday.

“What to Expect” is billed as an ensemble comedy, sort of like “Love Actually,” where five different couples are about to become parents for the first time. It stars a slew of other big names including Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick and Chace Crawford.

We’ll be on the lookout for future filming sites. Hopefully we can help you avoid getting caught in a traffic tie up.

Midtown Matt – I guess you don’t think relevancy is being a host of the most watched program on TV and being voted sexiest woman alive. I would say she is at the peak of her career. Nice try though.

Sexiest woman alive as claimed by who? And what exactly does she “host”? I am aware that she is supposed to be a judge on that karaoke contest show that hasn’t been the most-watched program for 3 seasons now and is in the 9-toes-in-the-grave category.

And yeah….her career peaked well before Gigli.

Midtown Matt needs to get a life. Don’t you dare embarrass Atlanta!! which you’re probably not even from here.

JLO is great. Apparently she’s very relevant, Ever heard of American Idol? Movies? Songs?

My favorite J-LO movies was “The Wedding Planner”. I still like her and will have to watch this one to see if I recognize any of Atlanta in the background. There sure has been a flurry of movies being filmed here in the last year. I wonder if the state provides the movie makers some type of incentive to film here? I’m grateful because the Atlanta economy needs all the help it can get.

JLo just slept with PDiddy as a career move. She would do anything for fame.

Mr. Ed:

The state does indeed provide tax incentives to the movie industry. Georgia lawmakers passed legislation in 2008 offering tax breaks to projects that film here. As a result we’ve seen a slew of movies filmed in Georgia, resulting in an economic impact of $1 billion+

I am sorry, but J-Lo is one of the worse actresses ever. I did like Monster-In-Law, but Jane Fonda made that movie funny, not J-Lo. She is very beautiful but has very limited acting skills. Atlanta is becoming the new Holloywood now. All these films, TV Shows, and game shows are just great for our city. Let’s see if we can get the city to rebound economically now.

Yeah!! somebody shut MidtownMatt up. J-Lo not a real fan of your music but I did enjoy you in Mother
-in-Law, Maid in Manhattan and Wedding Planner. I do watch American Idol periodically and did see you on ET Tonight several times being announced as the sexiest woman alive and giving Mary Hart flowers for her retirement. I know you have a home in Miami so hopefully you will visit Atlanta a little more. Please forgive the bashing by some people if you happen to read this, trust me they, it are in the minority not the majority.

Cwilli, that was a nice note. I doubt J-Lo is too concerned with what people say about her on this blog. I am sure she does not know this blog exists!

But, the truth is movie projects here put LOTS of people to work, not just the J-Los of the world. These projects need extras, sound/tech people, etc. not to mention places to eat, stay and film.

A tipster told me that a couple whose home was featured in a movie that just wrapped were paid $75,000 for the use of their house for a couple of days. Extras or stand-ins are paid quite a bit less but still, the movie industry puts lots of folks to work!

An observation

July 29th, 2011
12:52 pm

How sad that a venue with such a great tradition of performance over the years has to be soiled by this no talent. Her performance on Idol this year with her “husband” was pathetic. The ability to shake one’s ass is not an acceptable substitute for musical talent.

An additional observation

July 29th, 2011
1:01 pm

And thanks for using your platform on Idol to cram that “husband” of yours down our throats for several months. Was that part of your divorce settlement? Get him airtime on national tv in an attempt to jump start his career? Considering that’s the last time he’s been heard of until your recent headlines, I’d say it worked just great.

@CanYOUQuantify and stancy: Note that neither of those links really quantify how they came up with the $1+ billion & $2+ billion numbers. I would think, given the television industry that already existed in Georgia BEFORE production subsidies were implemented, that a large portion of the $647 million invested would have been invested anyway. Film subsidies have failed in several states, including Michigan, where studies calculated a cost of $46,695 per part-time job created (http://reason.com/archives/2011/04/24/no-more-movie-subsidies). We need to consider both the COSTS and benefits of these type of “investments” as budgets continue to get tighter.

It amazes me how rude people can be on here. You insult the author of this blog. You complain about filming in GA. Yes, it can be inconvenient, but it is beneficial to the state, regardless of what some of you think. Why even write a comment if it’s just to show your hatred?

First of all, the State of Georgia offers a 30% tax incentive to film companies that use GEORGIA-BASED businesses while they film here. That is huge. Film subsidies didn’t work in Michigan because it’s Michigan. We have more picturesque places to film. Moviemakers are flocking here to film because it saves them money and it puts their Hollywood money into Georgia pockets. I am sorry if you were inconvenienced by the traffic hold-ups. But the impact of these film crews on our economy is magnanimous!

Oh, I’m definitely in favor of the economic benefit to the state, don’t get me wrong; it’s wonderful to see so many people get so much work. I have several friends who have been featured in movies and tv shows in the past year or so. I’m not complaining about that at all. It just would be nice to know when and where these things are going to happen, because it sucks to drive around the corner and WHAM you’re stuck in a movie set with no advance knowledge (especially if you live in midtown/buckhead and this sort of thing happens a lot). I’m sure it’s probably because they don’t want fans to go nuts and hold up the work they’re trying to do… but those of us who aren’t affiliated have work we’re trying to do too. (Hee. Didn’t know my whiny facebook comment was gonna make me famous.) :D
