“3 Stooges” movie filming at “Big Poppa’s” house

lee-najjar-mansionThe Farrelly brothers remake of “The Three Stooges” has been filming at the sprawling Buckhead estate last occupied by the guy known to “Real Housewives of Atlanta” fans as “Big Poppa.”

The film, to star Will Sasso, Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes, Jane Lynch and Larry David, set up shop at the blinged-out mansion last week. The home is at 490 West Paces Ferry, right across the street from the historic property known as “The Pink Palace” and not far from the Governor’s Mansion.

Developer Lee Najjar, known to RHOA fans as the swashbuckling “Big Poppa,” put the home on the market for $25 million a couple of years ago. The nine-bedroom home, with 11 bathrooms and 4 half-baths and amenities including 7 kitchens, 2 gyms, a ballroom, recording studio, a hair/nail salon, a cigar room, theater and pool, has since been reduced to the firesale price of $19.9 million. Here is a link to the listing web site if you’ve been looking for a summer cottage.

I was on vacation last week but heard from a bunch of you who got caught up in the traffic there, which I’m sure was not fun. An industry source told me that Billy Bob Thornton dropped by the set one day last week to check things out. He’s here working on a project of his own, called “Jayne Mansfield’s Car.” That film will star Thornton, along with Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Dennis Quaid, Pierce Brosnan and Dwight Yoakam. Things get cranking on that project soon.

Oh, one more tidbit: Billy Bob was spotted at Chastain Park last week, sitting up front during the Monkees concert.

Funniest line from this story was:
That film will star Thornton, along with Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Dennis Quaid, Pierce Brosnan and Dwight Yoakam.
Who?
Wow, times are tough for hollywierd actors too I see.
What a bunch of has-beens.

When I hear that term “Big Poppa”, I always feel a little vomit rising in my throat.
Did she say that while wearing a little schoolgirl’s outfit?
While sucking on a lollipop?
She appears to be nothing more than a legitimized call girl.
And a low class trashy one at that.
Thanks Bravo!
We now get to deal with the likes of Ne-Ne The Wilde-Beast and Kim the Schoolgirl / Nurse stripper for eternity.

Oh – I get it.
They’re representin’ the ATL.
My bad.
Thank god they were slithering around here during the Olympics, else they might have been nominated as Atlanta Ambassadors.
Wonder what kind of taste that would have left in the collective world’s mouth?

Garish taste in women.

LOL is this house real? Anyone in their right mind who would be a dinner guest at this home ..would not shake their heads and say, “Really….someone’s giving GA Power a Merry Christmas!”

Robert Duvall and William Hurt are has-beens? What movies have you been watching? Robert Duvall is one of THE great American actors of all time, William Hurt has been nominated for 4 Oscars and Thornton has made some great films and is an Oscar winner… wow…

@cursive … I totally agree with your comments, especially about Duvall. Robert Duvall at 80 is truly an American treasure …”one of THE great American actors of all time” is absolutely spot on correct.

Dear Nativeson71, Yes the house is real. I went to a party there once. It is totally bling-tacular. The cigar bar is pretty swank and the main kitchen is about the size of most people’s houses. When you open the coat closet the light pops on automatically. That wowed me more than anything. I’m easily impressed though.

I really bet “Boywonder” is all of 16 years old. If he were a tad bit older he would realize how stupid his statement is about those great actors being “has beens”. He probably thinks Miley Cyrus is Oscar material.

My question is why have all these stars flocked to appear in this movie? Is the Farrelly Bros.’ rep THAT good? Curious.

The Thieves property was cut up and is now a gated community. It was every bit as garish as the guv’s neighbor’s though.

Okay seriously… how could you POSSIBLY need 16 fireplaces in Atlanta? Not to mention seven full kitchens, nine bedrooms and 15 bathrooms. It’s like hoarding for rich people.

Was “Three Stooges” filming in a white SUV on Roswell Rd in the 30305? I was at Peachtree Presbyterian and saw a movie truck rigged with cameras go by.

I simply cannot fathom a single family residence requiring/having 7 fully functional kitchens. Hotels with hundreds upon hundreds of rooms do not have that many kitchens. I wonder how many kitchens Buckingham Palace has?

Any remake of the Stooges is doomed to stink. You can’t touch the Stooges. Curly is the greatest of all the comedians. Head and shoulders above all the rest including Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Richard Pryor, or even Jackie Gleason.

The Stooges were the climax of thousands of years of bits and pieces. Wandering minstrels and small towns and circuses and big towns. Vaudeville. Chautauqua. Carnivals. Mimes. Clowns.

Considering the vississitudes and the extra-curricular activites that the stooges experienced, I think their act was elevated to astromonical heights! (If I may be so pedantic).

A stooge remake? No. You can’t find the voices. You can’t glean the endearment. You can’t get inside an audience the way the Stooges could.
