Carlos Santana blasts new Georgia law on illegal immigration

Staff photo by Curtis Compton

Staff photo by Curtis Compton

Carlos Santana, in town this weekend for an event at Turner Field, blasted Georgia’s new law cracking down on illegal immigration.

“I represent the human race,” said Santana, who was born in Mexico. “The people of Arizona, the people of Atlanta, Ga., you should be ashamed of yourselves.”

HB 87 is meant to combat illegal immigration by increasing enforcement powers and requiring many employers to check the immigration status of new hires.

Santana, who received the “Beacon of Change” award at Sunday’s MLB Civil Rights Game, called the legislation, signed by Gov. Nathan Deal on Friday, “anti-American.”

Here is a link to the full story on Santana’s remarks.

Were you at Sunday’s game? Do you agree with Santana or Gov. Deal?

Number ONE: I would be more than happy to send Carlos a dictionary so he can look up the word ILLEGAL.

Number TWO: As a citizen of America and a resident of Georgia, I don’t give a CRAP what Carlos Santana has to say about anything. I’m not gonna lose any sleep over his opinion that Georgia should be “ashamed” over this legislation. Ha! Good one. Isn’t “shame” always the liberal defense when there is no logical or factual basis for their argument?

Number THREE: Carlos is the one who should be embarrassed, and realize he looks like an idiot when he speaks about matters he clearly doesn’t understand. Hey Carlos, how about you stick to what you KNOW, which is playing guitar and leave the business of Georgia’s business to the voters and taxpayers of Georgia. Now there’s an idea.

This guy is a tool. Why would anyone NOT want a law enforced? It is called ILLEGAL immigration for a reason. By the way Jennifer, thank you VERY MUCH for using the proper description here. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. Amazing the number of stories on this and it is labeled “anti immigration law”. Wrong! No problem here with someone immigrating LEGALLY. How do you think most of our familes got here?!!? Geez people, just follow the law. It ain’t that hard!

Somehow all American’s seem to forget that we came here as Illegal Immigrants. Not wanted nor really welcomed by the Native Americans who had been on this land for far longer. We came, took over their county and named it our own. Somehow people find this acceptable but not for others to come here looking for a better life. I know many mexican families here in Atlanta. Most are good people that keep to themselves, work harded than any anglo-saxon I know, love their family, go to church and try to abide by the laws in this country to have a better life. WE (American’s) should get a grip. This country needs a better way to integrate those that are here and have been law abiding citizens in almost all ways possible. Those that are trouble makers OK send them back. Otherwise do you really think that we are going to deport 12-15 Million people back to Mexcio. Give me a break.

The bill is a really bad bill because it only serves to make Deal sound tough on illegal aliens when it really does nothing but increase spending to the care and support of illegal aliens.

Under the bill, workers caught using fake credentials can get up to 15 years of jail time and up to $250K in fines. So, we take a person out of the workforce and give him room and board for 15 years AND expect him to pay a quarter million bucks. If he had that much money, do you think he’d be here in the first place?

In our jails these illegal aliens get free education, job training, health care, food, and so on – all out our expense… for up to 15 years!

Sure this bill won’t make illegal aliens or immigrant advocates happy, but it doesn’t do anything to save our state money or deter illegal aliens from coming here to work either.

That bill is a joke. I’m embarrassed for us. It is bills like this that push American businesses out of business or move to other countries where they can keep low income labor and produce lower priced and more affordable products. Those who are for this bill can keep their big mouths shut when the prices of fresh produce skyrockets. What’s that sound? Oh yeah, it’s the fall of America as China taking over the world!

I agree with our governor. What is the use of having laws if they are selectively applies? My grandaughter had to have a birth certificate, proof of residency and shot records to enroll in school. Illegals do not? As for Carlos Santana – my daughter has worked in many hotels and cleans houses. My next door neighbor cleans houses for a living. It is a lie to say Americans won’t do these jobs – they most certainly will!

First off, David & SP I guess your answer is open borders since the Pilgrims landed illegally. That is a typical liberal answer. Don’t fix the problem, blame the European Caucasions instead. Here is how you fix it. Make them all legal, get them social security numbers, start taxing there pay like everyone else and punsih those business’s that continue to hire illegals. Just think how much our tax revenue would increase in one year. The liberal stance is to do nothing so it brings in more dem supporters. Hell, they won’t even enforce the Federal Law as it is today.
Oh and for Santana, who really cares what actors, musicians or any other leftist artist has to say? They do not live in reality as it is. I give you Charlie Sheen.

I have no problem with Illegal Immigrants coming to the U.S. to gain a better life. But they need to go through the legal way of gaining their U.S. citizneship. I have worked since I was 15 years old and have had taxes taken out of my check since. I have also had to pay for my own college education and health benefits. Why does Carlos Santana think it is even remotely correct that an Illegal Immigrant should be allowed to come to the U.S. and receive FREE healthcare and educational opportunities that tax paying Americans have to pay for out of every paycheck we receive. Instead of him running his mouth why don’t you go show some of those Illegal Immigrants how to become LEGAL U.S. citizens.

I know he became an American citizen in 1965, and his parents moved from Tijuana to San Francisco – the question I have is did they do so legally? If his family came here illegally then how was he able to become a citizen?

I do agree with what he said but it may not have been the right venue. No one on here except if you are Native American should say anything about we need to close our borders. Why? Because all of our families are either willfull immigrants or brought here through slavery. The people we elected are going to sit and spend millions of dollars fighting a lawsuit with the government because what the Governor signed into law will be blocked just like Arizona law. I am for reform but it needs to be fair all the way around. We give 200,000 visas per year to migrant workers from Mexico but only 100 to Jamaicans- that is just an example there is something wrong with this picture. Let’s be real you arent going to be able to send 11 million people back in this day and age unless you go door to door and that would be a waste of time and money.
There are 11 million undocumented people here in America give them a path to citizenship-

The problem is everyone seeing this as black and white, its not, at all. As a young adult working my way from college into a productive life I am saddened by the mess our parents and grandparents have left us, from rampant consumerism to partisan he said, she said bickering I pray everyday and cannot wait for the time when the current “adults” start to leave the decision making posts of our society and go play golf or tennis where they belong. There is not right and wrong and the world is not a TV show from your horribly misinformed youth where good battles evil. Perhaps when it comes to the baby boomers your brains are just so heavily fried and damaged from your drug fueled, disgusting, experimental, hippie years that you still lack the ability to form rational thoughts.

One one side, yes, they are here illegally and they are a strain on our financial system and resources, this should be stopped, and changed. If this occurs however there needs to be a HUGE overhaul of the legal immigration process in this country. It needs to be streamlined, easier to navigate and ultimately more open to a greater number of people. This needs to happen because if you honestly, HONESTLY, believe that the majority of out of work Americans would be willing to leave unemployment pay to wash dishes, work in a fast food restaurant, be a kitchen worker, pour hot asphalt in Georgia in August, mow your lawn, manicure your gold courses, or perform any other number of extremely labor intensive and low paying tasks than you are horribly out of touch with our society and the world as a whole. He is right in one regard, they come here looking for a better life and provide us with services to support our quality of life that we are not willing to provide ourselves.

Carlos Santana is an ignorant fool.

Everyone needs to realize that Georgia’s bill is NOT LIKE that of Arizona! In Georgia’s law, police cannot ask for any reason or no reason at all to show documentation showing immigration. In Arizona’s law, they could. In Georgia, police can only check immigration status on those who have been arrested and detained. That is a common sense approach. If you’re checking an alleged criminal for breaking some laws, why can police not check to see if they are breaking an immigration law? If you argue that the responsibility belongs only to the federal government, then keep in my mind that all police see the federal criminal records of arrested individuals. If we can see their federal criminal records, then police should be able to see their federal immigration status. If that status is determined to be illegal, they get handed over to the federal government and the state does nothing more.

Santana is an idiot…comparing this to Ku Klux Klan…what a joke!

Its illegal to use a fake social security number to obtain a job, benefits and credit. Someone should tell Santana that. It’s illegal to steal and use someone else social security number. Someone should tell Santana that. Tell Santana there is a legal way to immigrate to the US like millions of people trying to get a legal VISA, what makes Mexicans different? Someone should tell Santana that. Also its a felony to illegally immigrate to Mexico, someone should tell Santana that people south of Mexico are deported, fined and jailed for up to 2 years for being illegal. They are also beat and their property stolen, someone should tell Santana that.

Santana is a disgrace to people trying to do things proper and legally. We are a nation of laws not popular opinion and if Santana doesn’t like it then Mexico is a short plane ride away. I bet Santana would not like it if I camped out at his house. How about me making an undocumented withdrawal from a bank? Its not undocumented, its illegal.

In Mexico, immigrants have to have proper documentation on them at all times, but they want special treatment here. Double standard. Good for Georgia and Governor Deal and the Ga legislator. All illegal immigration is doing is subsidizing employers profits and they are able to max profits at the expense of tax payers as they exploit illegals.

Enforce the laws. They are laws for a good reason. The United States is a sovereign nation. We have the right, what’s more, the DUTY to protect out borders. There are LEGAL avenues to immigration. Use them. America, don’t be EXTORTED by those who would paint pictures of unpicked apples (really?), unprocessed chickens, etc. Addressing the illegal immigration problem should be Job #1…whether new legislation is enacted or not.

I think the bigger issue here is that this happened in a paid-public venue, where local kids’ baseball teams were in attendance. As a parent of one of the children in attendance, I didn’t appreciate this Civil Rights Game being used as a political tool by an “entertainer.” I didn’t pay to hear his, or anyone’s political viewpoint. I will never again attend this particular game at Turner Field.

I am talking about people who are looking for work but cannot find it. Even the lower paying jobs, regardless if they have a degree or not. You need to get out of your fantasy world and wake up. Yes, there are some businesses still hiring illegal workers over U.S. citizens that have degrees. They can pay them under the table and do not have to offer them benefits. To those who argue that we need illegal immigrants to keep costs down: Do you realize that IF we freed up these jobs, one of two things would happen: A. The people who perform these tasks “legally”, many who fall below the poverty line, could start demanding higher prices. It’s simple supply and demand economics. or B. People would just do without and do the work themselves.

Honestly, what’s the down-side here?

I welcome diversity, but believe those that would like to immigrate to the U.S. should do so in a legal manner. In a perfect world it would be great to have no borders, but this wouldn’t work in reality. The U.S. is the greatest country in the world and this is why people risk their lives to get here. Can you imagine the stampede if the borders were completely open? We already have overcrowded schools, overcrowded hospitals and not enough doctors to handle the current population. U.S. cities are having to raise taxes and cut services. I agree that they should do a better job of managing their budget, but we would be remissed if we didn’t at least consider the strain that illegal immigrants are putting on schools and hospitals? Most are hard working, good people, but do not pay taxes. We cannot continue to keep pace with this type of growth and I support HB 87.

Georgia is full of racist hatred all around, and any chance they get to cast aside a minority they are going to do it. Agree Gary, guess Santana’s “land of the Free” means something different, not becoming a citizen of The US, and Georgia, and having everything paid for. I would love to be “illegal” too if I got all these services and products free. Don’t understand why all these people keep saying we are all illegal, not hardly. Yes, history reads that the US became the US through immigration, but by now, if you are citizen of this country, the correct steps have either been taken to become citizens or were naturally born here. Why does that make everyone illegal? If a person comes here takes the right steps to citizenship, and provides for their fair share without expecting handouts, what is wrong with that, and why is that against “human rights” according to Santana. Isn’t it against my human rights to pay for myself and family as well as paying for others who are living here illegally, who expects it this way, and doesn’t do anything to change their status. I would be marching around with signs too, if I thought all my free “stuff” was going to be taken away. Isn’t that imposing on my rights? It is like being wrong if I don’t pick up the guy wanting a free ride on the side of the road. He/she has rights to do that and expect that ride, but if I don’t give it to him, by choice, free of charge, I am imposing on their “human rights,” even if they have broken out of prison, and are trying to hitch a ride, “illegally.” Guess that doesn’t matter, oh yeah, I forgot, people who work hard, uphold the laws, and pay their part, are just too conservative and wrong. Guess that makes me an idiot, who just doesn’t get it. I do know what free is, and what it is not, and I don’t get free things, but these people do, and are not here as US citizens or even trying to become one.

@Lynn, I agree with you the visa is wrong. People from other countries are shut out with Mexicans and others from South America wanting to get to the front of the line.

And, their so-called plight is not like the “Civil Rights” movement. Black and White Americans were marching for the “rights” of “American” citizens. It is disgusting for them to even compare it. Does anyone understand that the problem is not immigration itself? It’s ILLEGAL immigration. I welcome anyone to come here in search for a better life but you need to do it the right way. But also I think we need to make it a heck of alot easier to do that. But as we all know, dealing with the government is never efficient or easy in ANYTHING. I don’t think a Braves game was the proper forum for Santana to express his political opinion. It made him look like a hack!!!! Which celebrities tend to do when it comes to politics. Everyone notice the Republicans that actually care about a robust American economy are staying silent on the sidelines here. To reverse Nathan Deal’s (who up to this point had been a welcome breath of fresh air of his predecessor) logic, if businesses, particularly those in our very large agriculture culture segment, don’t have the option to hire these workers here for the wages they pay they will simply outsource those same jobs to the country they are from to avoid higher required wages to American workers and the possibility of the negotiating power of unions. I venture to say the loss in corporate taxes we will endure will have a much more negative effect than losing the cost of having illegals will have positive. It shouldn’t be about racism or the some notion of manifest destiny that you are somehow entitled to something because of where you were born, it should be about remaining the strongest, most productive economy on Earth. These workers will be the key ammunition in our continuing economic war with the Chinese. We have trouble matching their manufacturing costs with illegals how will we fare without them?

FedUp

First of all, all the talk that we are all illegals is just a way for those who have nothing else to say to have something to say.
Illegal is ILLEGAL. Period. No other country in the world puts up with people coming in and taking jobs, whether Americans want those jobs or not is not the point. In Mexico your butt would be thrown in jail if they catch you working and not properly documented.
If you want into this country, apply. Be LEGAL. The last time I looked, this law is only following federal law that is not enforced. I could care less what Santana has to say, or anyone else who is illegal and has no rights in any way shape or form, they are not from the US and should be sent back until they want to be legally here. ALL businesses that employee illegals should be shut down for a year and they wouldn’t continue employing them either.

Currently there are an estimated 9 to 11 million illegals in the U.S., double the 1994 level. A quarter-million illegal aliens from the Middle-east currently live in the U.S, and a growing number are entering by crossing the Mexican border.

FAIR research suggests that “between 40 and 50 percent of wage-loss among low-skilled Americans is due to the immigration of low-skilled workers. Some native workers lose not just wages but their jobs through immigrant competition. An estimated 1,880,000 American workers are displaced from their jobs every year by immigration; the cost for providing welfare and assistance to these Americans is over $15 billion a year.” The National Research Council, part of the National Academy of Sciences, found in 1997 that the average immigrant without a high school education imposes a net fiscal burden on public coffers of $89,000 during the course of his or her lifetime. The average immigrant with only a high school education creates a lifetime fiscal burden of $31,000.8

80% of cocaine and 50% of heroin in the U.S. is smuggled across the border by Mexican nationals. Drug cartels spend a half-billion dollars per year bribing Mexico’s corrupt generals and police officials, and armed confrontations between the Mexican army and U.S. Border Patrol agents are a real threat. There have been 118 documented incursions by the Mexican military over the last five years.

Illegal aliens have cost billions of taxpayer-funded dollars for medical services. Dozens of hospitals in Texas, New Mexico Arizona, and California, have been forced to close or face bankruptcy because of federally-mandated programs requiring free emergency room services to illegal aliens. Taxpayers pay half-a-billion dollars per year incarcerating illegal alien criminals.

Immigration is a net drain on the economy; corporate interests reap the benefits of cheap labor, while taxpayers pay the infrastructural cost. FAIR research shows “the net annual cost of immigration has been estimated at between $67 and $87 billion a year. The National Academy of Sciences found that the net fiscal drain on American taxpayers is between $166 and $226 a year per native household. Even studies claiming some modest overall gain for the economy from immigration ($1 to $10 billion a year) have found that it is outweighed by the fiscal cost ($15 to $20 billion a year) to native taxpayers.”

“In the NAFTA era, a staggering 87 percent of Mexico’s imports go to the United States, while Mexicans living in the United States send home more than $8 billion annually. Fox has said he considers his constituency to include the 22 million to 24 million Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the United States. Mexican candidates now make campaign stops in U.S. cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix and Fresno, Calif.” (Mexico’s muddle, Ruben Navarrette Jr., March 26, 2003)

For more information, see The Washington Times article and series Chaos along the border, October 6, 2002, the FAIR reports Immigration and the Economy, Immigration Lowers Wages for American Workers, and the article Record amount of remittances sent from US to Mexico.

Remittances
$60 billion dollars are earned by illegal aliens in the U.S. each year. One of Mexico’s largest revenue streams (after exports and oil sales) consists of money sent home by legal immigrants and illegal aliens working in the U.S. Economists say this will help Mexico reduce its $17.8 billion defecit and may bolster the peso. $10 billion dollars (as of 2003) are sent back to Mexico annually, according to the Pew Hispanic Center, reported in an Associated Press article, up $800 million from the previous year. ($9 billion dollars were previously sent back annually, according to a September 25, 2002 NPR report). That figure equals what Mexico earns annually from tourism. This is a massive transfer of wealth from America – essentially from America’s displaced working poor – to Mexico.

A May 28, 2004 study by Bendixen & Associates6 found that legal and illegal immigrants send a total of $30 billion to their home countries on an annual basis. Mexico receives $13.3 billion a year. The largest amount in remittances ($9.6 billion) is sent from California, followed by New York ($3.6 billion), Texas ($3.2 billion) and Florida ($2.5 billion). Of those surveyed by the study, 24% were Latin American-born U.S. citizens, 39% were legal residents, and 32% were illegal aliens. Sixty-one per cent of those surveyed send remittances overseas at least once a month. A typical remittance is between $150 and $250. (See this state-by-state map of remittances.)

Education costs
The total K-12 school expenditure for illegal immigrants costs the states $7.4 billion annually—enough to buy a computer for every junior high student nationwide.9

In what officials caution is now a dangerous and even deadly crime wave, Phoenix, Arizona has become the kidnapping capital of America, with more incidents than any other city in the world outside of Mexico City and over 370 cases last year alone. But local authorities say Washington, DC is too obsessed with al Qaeda terrorists to care about what is happening in their own backyard right now.

Now they are getting a free education and are very soon gonna start taking the high paying jobs of the people who are against this bill. HB 87 of GA and SB 1070 of AZ are similar. Racial profiling is at the core of both bills, neither of these bills would function without racial profiling. The AZ bill is on its way to the Suprme Court for review after Judge Bolton of The Ninth District eviscerated the bill.

If more attention and money was spent on streamlining the legal process to citzenship/legal status the current situation with undocumented immigrants would not be much of a issue. The people who risk their lives to come here are coming for economic reasons. Yes, of course crimes have been committed by the illegal immigrants, a greater percentage of that population are hard working people who are economic refugees.

It seems that a smarter way of the state handling HB 87 would be to wait and see what is going to happen with AZ bill in the Supreme Court. No one has ever accused the state legislature of GA of being smart. Now we can lump Deal in with that group.

I thought Santana had more class than that. Second, to equate support for illegal immigration to fighting for civil rights for US citizens who were born and raised here and denied their fundamental rights is insulting to anyone who believes in true civil rights. Third, over the last few decades, I’ve hired multiple people to clean my house, scrub my toilets, etc., and they’ve all been white anglo-saxon American citizens. To assume that Americans consider ourselves above honest labor is pure racial prejudice and it’s highly offensive to me.

If the issue is illegal immigrants costing millions of dollars to hospitals and other public services, then let them being able to purchase health insurance.

If the issue is illegal immigrants driving without a license and no insurance, then let them being able to take the driving exam and get a license and insurance.

If the issue with illegal immigrants is that they came illegally to this country, then let them being able to adjust their status. Let them pay any back-taxes, learn English, pay a penalty fine, make them wait 15 years in order to become citizens (just let them have a work permit to renew every 2 yrs), and on top of deducting SS, Medicaid, Fed and State Taxes, also deduct an change-of-status tax, this would help to pay for anything they have spent on the expense of tax payers.

At the same time, let’s have our military go to the border to stop any illegals or drug come into the country as well as stopping any guns and weapons being smuggled to Mexico and Latin America for the cartels.

Penalize businesses who keep hiring workers without proper documentation. This issue hasn’t being really addressed on HB87.

Deport immediately anyone who is part of a gang or commits crime (not misdemeanors) while being undocumented or on the process to become one.

If we do this everyone on both sides will get part of what they want. Most Illegal/Undocumented immigrants are people who are to make a living to support their families, running away from their country’s unstable economy and violence. We give billions of dollars to our enemies to afford their wars, but we cannot help the people who helps putting the food in our supermarkets.

If businesses wouldn’t hire illegal immigrants, they wouldn’t come to America for work. We are targeting the wrong people,we should throw anyone who hires them for work in jail and this will rectify the problem. My neighbor was having some work done on his home and the contractor ask the Mexican worker to bring 2 of his friends with him on the next day, so they could complete the job sooner. Now do you really think his 2 friends are legal in this country? He was only concern about getting the job finish in a timely manner. I should have called ICE and had the Contractor ARRESTED for hiring them; because, he knew they weren’t legal; however, this was CHEAP labor for the contractor. The word “racist” is used ad naseum these days, and it’s completely lost it’s effect on most Americans. Americans citizens are sick and tired of trying to shamed and guilted. The majority of American citizens and obviously the majority of states OPPOSE illegal immigration, because most states have this type of law waiting in their own legislatures.

The federal government has proven they cannot be trusted and they will not do what the majority of citizens want, so states are taking action.

This is just another attempt by the media to use an actor, entertainer or musician in this case to drum up sympathy for the dying liberal agenda. I say we let them continue this kind of exposure, as it only hurts their agenda. Let Santana and other continue with their hateful rants, they are the haters and the ones that look foolish.

Illegal Immigrants are fighting a loosing battle, and the more they speak the weaker their case to stay here becomes. I say let them continue with their foolish diatribe, most of America is not listening and the numbers are growing.

The problem is the employers. To make money, they pay these people below minimum wage, they don’t take out taxes, and don’t pay the Social Security taxes. Then when someone who is a citizen applies for work with them there is no opening. Clamp down on the border and penalize employers who are breaking the law by not paying at least minimum wage and not paying the other taxes they have to pay when they hire citizens. Do this and the illegal immigrants will at least pay taxes, but many will go home because a lot of the jobs will dry up. Gary is exactly right, it is about the sucking sound for a society that is providing so called entitlements for people who are criminals. They break the laws of our country by entering illegally. Maybe we should look at the Mexican government and let them know the USA will not stand for this.

The US Department of Homeland Security and some advocacy groups have criticized a program of the government of the state of Yucatan and that of a federal Mexican agency directed to Mexicans migrating to and residing in the United States. They claim that the assistance includes advice on how to get across the U.S. border illegally, where to find healthcare, enroll their children in public schools, and send money to Mexico. The Mexican federal government also issues identity cards to Mexicans living outside of Mexico.[40][41]

In 2005 the government of Yucatan produced a handbook and DVD about the risks and implications of crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. The guide told immigrants where to find health care, how to get their kids into U.S. schools, and how to send money home. Officials in Yucatan said the guide is a necessity to save lives but some American groups accused the government of encouraging illegal immigration.[42]
In 2005 the Mexican government was criticized for distributing a comic book which offers tips to illegal aliens emigrating to the United States.[43] That comic book recommends to illegal immigrants, once they have safely crossed the border, “Don’t call attention to yourself. … Avoid loud parties. … Don’t become involved in fights.” The Mexican government defends the guide as an attempt to save lives. “It’s kind of like illegal immigration for dummies,” said the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, Mark Krikorian. “Promoting safe illegal immigration is not the same as arguing against it.” The comic book does state on its last page that the Mexican Government does not promote illegal crossing at all and only encourages visits to the U.S. with all required documentation.[43]

From what I understand, a big argument as to why the illegal population doesn’t follow the path to citizenship is becuase it takes too long.

I wonder if I could use the same argument in court?

Yes your honor, I did rob the bank at gunpoint. I really wanted to follow the stated legal procedures to make a withdrawl, but it was just too time consuming.

Yes your honor, I was speeding in excess of 120 mph. I really wanted to follow the legal speed limit, but it was just too time consuming.

Yes your honor, I killed my parents in order to get my inheretance. I really wanted to wait for them to die, but it was too time consuming.

I like it!

David…..The difference in immigration of yester year and the illegals that come here now is massive. The original immigrants came here to work had and there were no social programs at every street corner. These illegals, however, come here and form gangs, sell drugs, create crime, rape our kids or worse, destroy property, get on every social program they can once that baby gets here, puts our hospitals in the red, destroys the integrety of our school systems and so on. Yet they pay no taxes for all the US gives them.

I do believe that the immigration laws in this country are set in stone and that our government is letting every American down by standing by illegals of a foreign country against the hard woking americans that they were elected to protect and serve. It is not like this country does not have a immigration program, they just choose to ignore it and so does the government. I AM FOR IMMIGRATION, but I am NOT FOR ILLEGALS. There is a difference.

Overpopulatoin! That’s the real issue. Should we continue to allow people (legal or illegal) to immigrate to this country? Wake up! We are running out of resources. Where is all the garbage going? ( well I see a lot of it on the streets). Will we have enough clean water? ( sure that has been a lot of rain, but that isn’t going to cut it). What about the energy needs required to sustain the population currently living here? This system of ours is completely absurd and unsustainable. We don’t need more people in this country. Oh sure, who is going to pay for social security? Let’s get real, We couldn’t import enough people to pay into the system to keep it viable. Of course no one thinks about the agricultural land all these people will take. Yes, that’s right. We are losing valuable land daily to development of homes for this growing population. Ever notice how many more children immigrants have in this country than in their homeland? Gee, I wonder why? Is it because we pay for their services and they wouldn’t even think to in their homeland? Just food for thought.

Manny said: Illegals pay taxes. They just don’t pay income tax. Like people with hardly any money. And people with a lot of money. I always laugh when people say that other people pay no taxes.
Manny, I agree they pay sales tax, but they don’t pay social security tax, federal or state income taxes, they don’t pay the medicare tax, they don’t have unemployment paid for them. They do use hospital emergency rooms like a doctors office, causing hospitals to have to raise their fees for the rest of us to cover it. The do fill our schools causing higher cost for the rest of us to pay for schools. They are here illegally, they broke the laws of this country by entering illegally, and are a slap in the face for those who do things right and enter this country illegally. Carlos Santana is a great guitarist, but claiming that it is racist to remove people who broke this countries laws is in itself racist and ignorant. As for people with a lot of money not paying income tax. If it is income then they pay tax on it. If they have it and have already paid tax on it, then why should they pay tax on it again. Besides that the top 10% of wage earners in this country pay something like 75 or 80% of the federal income tax. So your statement there is ignorant.

For all the people that say otherwise, let’s get this clear. Illegal immigrants don’t pay income taxes. Yeah, they sometimes pay sales taxes, but that covers very little. And they do take the jobs we are willing to do. My teenage son wants a job, but every fast food restaurant in my area has about ten working in them, so there are no jobs for him. They also allow the employers to pay less for jobs. Janitors use to make good wages, now because of cheap labor from Illegal immigrants no one can live on what they pay unless they don’t pay taxes on the money they make and share an apartment with 10 other people.

I went to one of his concerts in Las Vegas just because I had a friend who worked at MGM and the tix were free. That was back when Bush Jr. was President. I left about half way through the concert because I was so offended by what Santana had to say about Republicans in general. He did not single Bush out, but rather specifically included “all republicans, including those in the stand here tonight”. I vowed never to support that fool, ever. I turn off his songs when they come on the radio and certainly do not allow my kids to listen to that fool.

As for the law, I have no problem with it as it is meant for “illegals”. As many have said look up the definition. Do I think there should be an easier road to becoming legal, probably. The biggest problem is that many illegals do not want to become legal. They strain our resources while not paying for them. They pay no taxes as illegals.

One of two things needs to happen. Either provide an easier pathway to legalization and tax them/treat them like any other American, or charge them for the educational and medical services they take advantage of at a fully burdened rate.

The real problem is that we, as a country, have put them in the middle and they are taking advantage of that. They pay no taxes, but take advantage of all the things our taxes pay for. That can not continue.

This bill holds illegals up to the same standards as the rest of us. Sorry to be the one to point that out, Carlos. You are no longer a citizen of Mexico, sir. So act like an American. I don’t care that people want to come into our country and enjoy freedom and capitalism – that’s the American dream. But when they force their way in – and don’t pay taxes, but still reap all the benefits – THAT is where I have a problem. If I don’t pay my taxes, the IRS will hunt me down and make my life a living hell.

But you have illegal aliens (of any country, not just Mexico) that sneak in, get paid cash under the table and PAY NOTHING BUT SALES TAX. But that doesn’t stop them from using the police, the fire department, the school systems, the hospitals, the prisons, the Food Stamp programs, OR any other TAXPAYER FUNDED SERVICES. You want rights? FINE, you have the right to PAY TAXES just like the rest of us. If not, then get out. Our country is TOO BROKE and in TOO MUCH DEBT to pay for anyone that’s not putting their shares into the pot.

However, Carlos Santana is defined as one of those evil “rich” people by his liberal buddies. So I guess he won’t mind paying more money to the government to cover his illegal amigos. Right, Carlos?! You gonna pick up the tab for them? Be sure to make that check out to the IRS. However, you’re gonna have to pay some late fees by now since it’s after April.

It truly entertaining to see both side of the “racial profiling” debate. On one hand, Latinos don’t want this law or that law because it would be racial profiling. On the other hand, their advocates have no problem touting, Latinos are hard working, family people, have a picture of Jesus and John Kennedy hanging in the front rooms and really just want a better life. So, which way do you want it Latinos? Don’t want to be profiled as the largest invader of another country, stealing identities, fraudlent voting, mooching social services? Or is it OK to profile you as hard working, lovely people blah blah blah. So the media either needs to skip the Lationo advocates who push the envelope all over the place for just their race, or we need to face the facts. None of these people (advocates) including Carlos, know any of these people. No reference to maybe there are gang members, drug runners, people with criminal backgrounds, nope; all just wonderful family people who love God and want to live in this country peacefully. What a crock. America is a magnet to illegal aliens because they know they can get away with murder, and in some cases literally.

We have a law. We have immigration laws which hopefully still dictates a manner of immagration that would allow reasonable diversity. I don’t want to live in a branch of Mexico. I don’t want to speak Spanish in America by forced requirements. I don’t want to support people who have children because the Pope says they need more congregational members and money. I don’t want my schools overcrowded with children who do not speak English and require special education. I don’t want to pay for the illegals medical services when my own family suffers from lack of coverage because we pay so much in taxes (partially to support the needs of illegals) that we can’t afford decent insurance coverage. I don’t want my home value to plummet because illegals cram 5 families into one home and don’t give a rats rear end about maintaining the property. Although I’ve already been dinged because thousands of them got loans they shouldn’t have for homes they just walked away from. So Carlos, I’m sure you don’t have to worry about any of these issues, but I do. I’m not rich. I don’t get to “cut a record” everytime I need to buy a new home or go to the grocery store or send my kids to school. Besides, I don’t even know what your reference to “representing the human race” means. You want terriorist in our country? They too are human. You want every social sucking free loader the world has to offer in our country? Maybe you should go back to Mexico and see what you can do for your home country. They need some help there. We don’t need your kind of help.

I guess all the good non-Mexican citizens of the US are supposed to just let the illegals come up here, have their babies for free in our hospitals, get all the government goodies for free, drive down US wages by competing for jobs that ought to pay more while simultaneously collecting welfare and so on. Call me crazy but I think the good folks of Mexico either ought to immigrate LEGALLY or ought to stay in Mexico, organize, and reform their government and oust their predatory ruling class. Mexico needs to fix Mexico and have its own revolution and stop making America like Mexico and lecturing us about gun control and how we don’t belong here because 400 years ago some white folks came and moved in.

Illegal immigrants DO pay taxes, I know this for a fact. If you think illegals are moochers, you are sadly mistaken. They clearly have better and stronger work ethic than any of the fat cats who voted for this lame bill. Congrats, Gov Deal and continuing to destroy the economy of Georgia and the U.S.!

Oh yeah, sure…they are probably ALL covered by fantastic private insurance plans, they pay enormous amounts in Property Taxes (majority of which is School tax), they NEVER receive SSi or any other Government Subsidy……BS!

Hey SP..of COURSE illegal immigrants pay taxes. Duh! When they buy a Diet Coke and a burrito at the Circle-K they pay sales tax. Now, are you trying to suggest that they pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, considering they have no Social Security number? Truth,
I sincerely hope you are just trying to stir the pot. Virtually every single post you have made here is chocked full of fallacies and embellishments. Fact: illegals do not pay income taxes. Five, six, seven or even ten years ago it was generally mom and pop type companies that would use illegal immigrant labor and pay with cash. Thyese would be businesses such as drywalling, building fences, yard work, etc. Now, the problem is so big that large companies (I know my local Longhorn’s is doing this for a fact) hire illegal immigrants and then load up a Visa giftcard and pay the illegal immigrant that way. If that is ok with you then you have serious problems. I have worked really hard (yes, I’ve done the menial jobs like being a custodian, working in a fast food joint, and a golf course doing back breaking labor) to get where I am today. It infuriates me to know that there are people here getting a free ride. That when I see how much the government takes from me knowing that some of that is being used to cover medical bills for illegal immigrants. I am glad they want to coem to America. As an American, that makes me so proud! I am a teacher and many of the brightest, hardest working, honest, respectful, and likeable students are of Latin descent. I have nothing against the people. I actually believe that they make out country stronger, better, and more diverse. But at the end of the day, they need to be forced (not suggested) to follow the rules and laws of this country.

One last point. In addition to this law, I believe that businesses that are caught employing illegal immigrants should be fined so heavily that it puts them out of business. I realize that this would hurt the small businesses for a while but to me it would be a small sacrifice now for a big gain down the road.

Hey TRUTH…a little more logic for you on your Googled crime statistics: did it ever occur to you that crimes are, in part, solved because there are ways to identify the culprit (they have a known address, known fingerprints, known drivers license, or otherwise identifialbe means of finding them)? When you are skulking around here illegally, it is MUCH easier to stay under the radar. Plus, if there are documented 20 million illegals in this country, your statistics are already flawed because that is 20 million crimes right there.

I have to laugh at all these people getting all indignant and puffing about the taxes that illegals *might* pay on their criminal profits. Whether they pay taxes or not has diddley to do with anything (except for them committing tax fraud, of course). So…if drug dealers paid taxes on the drug profits, would we stop enforcing drug laws? If prostitutes 1099′d at the end of the year, would that legitimize the industry? Of course not. So whether taxes are levied on the profits of a few illegals is just another red herring. Another strawman from the pro-crime lobby intended to distract one from the issue at hand…the necessarily criminal activities of illegal aliens.

What *is* pertinent is that if the illegal is getting a paycheck, it is criminal profit…just like money from drugs, stolen cars, embezzelment, and fraud. In fact, it *is* fraud – which is another thing these whiners don’t talk about…the ancillary crimes associated with illegal immigration. Crimes like identity theft, forgery, human traffiking, serial frauds including document, credit, labor and tax fraud. Nobody says it, but we all know that the pro-crime lobby will refuse to allow their special interests to be held responsible for any of those crimes (though they’ve got no problem with an American citizen or legal immigrant being prosecuted to the full extent of the law). After all…the illegal is pooor and shouldn’t be expected to act with the same honesty and decency as those stupid morons who actually followed the law.

And since they’re so very poor and pitiful, (and even the ethnocentric pro-crime, pro-illegal immigration folks cannot defend criminality on this scope with any modicum of honesty) any attempt to hold illegals responsible for their actions will be met with (baseless) accusations of racism, xenophobia, and bigotry. To these folks, we should be ashamed for respecting the law and wanting an orderly, safe society to live in. This I refuse to do.

I am most sincerely NOT ashamed of respecting the law nor of asking for it to be enforced.

Mr. Santana should be saying if i had to do it the legal way so should everyone else. Their is no excuse for being illegal . Mr. Santana should visit the homeless shelters and see how many American born families are in their because they can not find affordable housing because their is no room for them , Let him go to any apartment complex and in a two bedroom you will find 7 illegal .

I could care less what he thinks nor what ANY of these ILLEGALS think! We live in a country where everyday thousands are put in jail (our citizens) for breaking the law – while these ILLEGALS get away with it — and are “in your face about it too” !!!!! Our states have lost BIG TIME because the FEDS have failed to protect our country and our citizens!! Georgia is nothing like it use to be – they have ADVERSELY impacted GEORGIA in schools, hospitals, and freebies in health clinics. SEND THEM BACK FROM WHENCE THEY CAME…. HOW DARE THEY BE OUTRAGED!!! WE ARE OUTRAGED BY THEM and GOV. DEAL has done the RIGHT THING!! He has the courage to do it while our fed politicians have lacked this….

I am tired of everyone trying to be “politically” correct – if we wish to be “politically” correct in this instance- tell it like it is – they are not “migrant workers” – they are “ILLEGALS” and here ILLEGALLY!!!!!!! and are draining us dry…

They should be thankful we would ship them back from whence they came vs. throwing them in jail for quite a while……how dare they!!

Dear dose of ignorance,
It does not matter who came here first, or last, or what happened in between. The point is we have laws in place to become a citizen. My family followed these rules, so I do not think it is fair that others who choose to break the law should be given a better way then my family. Besides the fact that illegal immigrants cost tax payers millions and millions of dollars a year, their are procedures to follow to come into the US to ensure we are not letting criminals, murders, and other violent offenders here. I think there should be a better work program for the people who come to work, and maybe make it easier to become a citizen.

Here are immigratiion levels by country per year

Country Per Year
Mexico 175,900
China 50,900
Philippines 47,800
India 59,300
Vietnam 33,700
Cuba 14,800
El Salvador 33,500
Dominican Republic 24,900
Canada 24,200
Korea 17,900
The U.S. immigration policy clearly favors Mexico. If you add in illegals from Mexico
and the anchor babies the number of Mexicans coming to the U.S. is over 600000
per year. Carlos Santana cleary does not represent the human race he only
represents Mexicans. If he represented the human race he would be in favor of reducing
immigration from Mexico and increasing it from countries that are much poorer than Mexico.
There are at least 100 countries that are poorer than Mexico. Mexico has the 11th largest economy in the world. The majority of U.S immigration to the U.S is from non white countries so
If the immigration policies are racist they are anti – white.

To Dose of Reality- It is time to get over the whole “we are all illegal aliens” thing. Grow up, stop acting like a two year old. Millions of families emigrated here and followed all of the laws that were in place at that time. They learned to speak English, adopted the culture and became Americans. The illegal aliens are just that. Illegal. How about this for a suggestion, all of you that feel that these people should stay, have to adopt/sponsor them. You are responsible for paying for their education, healthcare, legal and whatever other expenses they incur and cannot afford. The American taxpayer bears none of the responsibility. Seem like a reasonable plan. Oh, wait, it doesn’t? It was okay up until you personally are put in a position to foot the bill. If we had secure borders and an actual Federal guest worker program, this wouldn’t be an issue. In addition, it is time for the Federal Government to actually enforce the true intent of the Fourteenth Amendment and eliminate the “Anchor Baby” loophole. Santana sides with the wealthy, greedy elites. His is the US Chamber of Commerce cry to give illegal aliens jobs at low wages and no benefits(only the greedy, criminal employer gets the benefit). He cares nothing for civil rights or race. Young American adults aged 18-29 with only a high school degree have 40% unemployment, 43% of Hispanic Americans in this age group are unemployed and 50% of black Americans in this age group are unemployed.

, Meanwhile the PEW Hispanic Center estimates that nearly 8 million illegal aliens are taking American paychecks by committing one or more felonies such as lying on I-9 forms, using stolen or fraudulent SS numbers, using stole and/or fraudulent IDs or evading income tax(paid under the table). I guess my main question to Santana would be “Why do you hate American workers so much?”

HB 87 as it is written in GA is severely flawed and largely one-sided. How can Gov Deal sign a bill that doesn’t address the problem and offer alternatives to prevent the “problem.” This law will be blocked by the Federal government because there is the potential for racial profiling which we should all agree is “illegal”. So why support a law that isn’t enforced with one that is illegal if even partially is beyond me. Why support a law that would or could have the potential of cost more to implement that what is currently available…is beyond me HB 87 will levy a $250k fine and 15 year jail term well when last check the cost to simply house an inmate was nearly $22k a year so basically the state will lose money because this cost like everything else WILL rise especially if the facility is corporate own.

Next one cannot deny the value that illegal immigration has on our country every aspect of our lives is dependent on their work from the French fries you consume at McDonald’s to the fluffy pillow at your hotel the cot you enjoyed was subsidized by illegal immigration labor. Although there are roughly 15m Americans out of work “looking” for work. They type of labor intensive work that illegal immigrants do is not the type of work they are looking for. Because Americans have too much pride to be humble and the government is too generous with handouts there is no incentive to get back to work ANY kind of work so why bother looking.

And as far as taxes please don’t believe the hype of “they don’t pay taxes” you may as well believe they don’t eat and sleep. For anytime you purchase ANYTHING in Georgia from a car to a t-shirt at Wal-Mart whether you pay cash or credit one has to pay taxes if even on a local level. And local taxes (depending on your county in GA) support things like Education, Local Option (police fire and other misc. county level positions)) Special Option (for libraries, sidewalks bridges road paving etc) Marta (which goes towards MARTA general fund for public transportation) so the argument that they don’t pay taxes is 100% untrue.

Speaking of education one of our greatest exports after democracy is our educational system true it needs works and more funding but each year thousands of students are taught in our schools nationwide. So what better export can we offer than our education and values to the world. I see no benefit in kicking out a promising illegal immigrant student who goes to class and has promise vs keeping an unruly ungrateful brat with no yearning to be great.

And since the debate here is either for or against why hasn’t anyone suggested HOW to fix the problem. For it is apparent that our elected officials really “hear” us which is why we have HB 87 on the books. So why don’t we begin to offer suggestions to deal with the problem at hand? I suggest that GA create a guest worker program similar to what UTAH has (who also had part of their immigration law strike down as unconstitutional on the grounds of racial profiling…do you see a trend developing). This bill could become a great bill for GA to really step into the fore front by showing compassion and gratitude to those illegal immigrants here that want to call America (USA) their home. Why not ask the Federal government to help make the process more streamlined less political.

As far as them “breaking the law” we all have a traffic ticket or worse on our record so does that mean we should be deported because we didn’t obey the laws of the land? Or because you are born here that entitles you to dictate who go and who stays? Or because illegal immigrants weren’t born in this country does that decide the life they get to live?
As an American I am just shocked at times at how we treat illegal immigrants; some of us without realizing their true impact on our lives. As a human being they have a fundamental right a better life for themselves and their families. This is a country founded by immigrants…have some of you forgotten the words “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” at the feet of The Statue of Liberty
If we are a country that believes in God or a higher being then we know this “land” is not ours so the best we could do as stewards of this land is offer our best hospitality to those that need it. A lot of the worlds’ problems could be solved if we stopped hating our fellow man more than we love ourselves.

Because America turned a blind eye to “illegal immigration” and now that 15 million people are out of work America wants to do something about it. to late it would be to costly to deport that many people and would give this country no legal standing on any other international crisis or affairs for generations.

We are…who we are because of WHO we are a nation of immigrants.

So why dont we ask our elected officials to simiply streamline the process so that those that are here can pay a fine and get to the back of the line.

You are absolutely incorrect with your bit about illegal immigrants paying taxes. Yes, every single person (legal, naturalized, illegal, tourist, etc.) pays a sales tax. Thanks for the news flash, captain! But get with the program, they DO NOT pay income taxes which is where most Americans are hot hardest. Pull out you pay stub and notice the difference in gross pay and net pay. Imagine that you got to have the gross pay number. How much better would life be? Illegal immigrants do not know the difference between gross pay and net pay because they only get gross pay. Huge difference. Like I said, get with the program. You make yourself appear quite ignorant when you type out 8 paragraphs to prove your point and most of it is littered with fallacies and inaccuracies.

Mr. 11688,
Never once did I say that I am a proponent of free government handouts. My take is this: they are illegal and for that very reason they need to be punished and/or deported. Additionally, any U.S. citizen that is harboring them and helping them elude authorities or employers who are employing them should be criminally prosecuted. It’s the law! Now, in terms of lazy people we have in this country, there are many of them who do think they are too good to do menial jobs. Stopping government handouts will curb that. But there are inevitable the ones who are willing but are being undercut by illegals who will work for less, cannot take workers grievances to anyone because they are afterall illegal, and can be fired with no severance pay. In many cases, that is hard to compete with.
I answered your question. Now you answer mine. You claimed that everyone pays taxes. I refuted that claim by pointing out that everyone pays sales taxes but illegals do not pay income taxes. Care to dispute that? Care to dispute that large companies such as Longhorn’s are employing illegals and paying them through loaded Visa prepaid cards?

My point was that they paid SOME taxes your friends like to believe that they don’t pay any taxes and I was simply saying that was not true. Anytime you purchase anything anywhere in Georgia you pay a sales tax period. Furthermore there ARE Americas very wealthy Americans that pay NO income taxes HELL GE didn’t pay any thanks to tax loop holes so where is the uproar about that?

I see we agree about those that are out of work that are abusing the system BUT I disagree with the fact that no matter the pay some people if not all will not do the job. Case in point down in middle Georgia farmers are willing to hire Americans but they simply don’t want to do labor intensive jobs like picking crops lawn care etc it doesn’t have to be a labor intensive job down in LaGrange the Kia suppliers are always hiring and you have to show proof that you are legal to work to get hired. If what you are saying is true then they should have a hiring waiting list but they don’t why? Is it because of illegals? NOPE…its because those than can wont take those type of jobs

As far as Longhorn I am not an employee of that corporation so I cannot comment but if you have information why don’t you share it with local authorities? A lot of companies are switching to auto direct deposit or debit cards it is just a sign of the times it doesn’t necessarily mean that illegal activity is going on its just a more efficient way of doing business. And beside less paper usage is better for the environment :)

6. George Bush who was duped by Vicente Fox did all Americans a disservice when he said “Illegals take the jobs Americans don’t want.” That was a very presumputous statement that’s not remotely based in reality.
7. When will libtards get a clue?

Most of you making comments using hotwords like ‘illegals’ and ‘liberals’ and ‘rednecks’ really are not adding very logical viewpoints, nor ones with a decent historical perspective. Fox Nes does not count as History 101.

First, to the ‘non-liberals’, whatever that is ( conservative? ): Your fave prez, George Bush Jr, sat on the Texas border for EIGHT years as governor and did NOTHING to stem the tide of ‘illegals’ pouring across that border. Why? Because his rich buddies in corporate farming ( not little guys, iow ) need, and have for DECADES, cheap labor and they get it in ‘illegal’ aliens.

Second, ‘illegal’ aliens are the backbone of the biggest contributor to the produce industry: California. Kick them out and the bottom falls out of that industry.

Third, the farmers who hire the pickers have been providing shelter, medical care, and education for decades. This started with the small farmers and still exists everywhere in the country.

Fourth, what do big empires in serious trouble do to keep the populace ( e.g. the majority ) distracted and from taking to the streets? They create games/entertainment and scapegoats. ( reference Rome on its decline and Germany on its rise – and fall ).

Do I really need to continue?

You are being swept up into fervors of emotionalism. The politicians could give a crap really which side of the fence you sit on, so long as you’re all arguing with each other or buying sporting tickets or stuffing your faces full of pizza etc etc etc. The LAST thing they want is real unity amongst the electorate. “Together we stand, divided we…..”. That’s right. FALL.

It’s not the ‘illegals’ you should be mad at nor each other. You should be banding together in a common cause for Freedom. Freedom from further invasion of your privacy, from being led around by the nose with distractions, freedom from being told by the media how to think. And, yes, here I will agree 100% with Mr.Santana: Free from fear.

These are hard times. You want to throw bums out? You want to direct your frustrations and fears somewhere? Direct them at the banks you bailed out and who now charge you double the service fees. Direct them at people who buy fleets of yachts and laugh while some Middle Class Shmuck actually convinces himself that a party primarily now interested in the ‘rights’ of the greediest in our country, those with the most money to protect, and who pay the fewest taxes all things on balance…that anyone ‘up there’ gives a rats backside about you and your 50G’s a year ‘lifestyle’.

Heck, even some Repub leaders are trying to court illegals. Why? Because there are SO MANY of them. Throw them out? Are you freaking kidding?!!! It can’t be done and it’s offered only to make you feel better about the threats to your own futures.

I’m not going to join you in hating an entire group of people. Who’s next? The Jews? Wake up idiots. Some people are trying to give you a scapegoat, that’s all. They don’t care about ’solutions’ but you bet they’d slaughter every last Hispanic if they thought that might appease you from voting them out or taking to the streets and holding the people who are REALLY accountable for job losses responsible. These poor Hispanics are NOT the ones who kicked the jobs out of this country. They are NOT the ones who required BILLIONS in bail outs. They work hard by and large and for every criminal white person there are criminal black people and criminal hispanics etc etc. Add poverty, a lack of food, and a lack of education and you get what Mexico is right now: run over with drug cartels who have no interest in the realities of the average Mexican.

Honestly, you need to look at the entire picture.

And I totally support Carlos speaking out. It’s about time someone got a back bone in this country who wasn’t funded by the Koch brothers or blaming the poor and uneducated. Everyone says something like the Third Reich could never happen here. Yeah, well, there was a time most Germans believed that before Hitler too. States passing laws like this might seem trivial, even justified, but they’re the tip of an uglier iceberg waiting to surface. When History is written for our time, what will be said of YOUR position? That you were saluting the Fuhrer? That you joined the ‘fight for right’ or worked as a guard in a prison camp? Work makes you free? Sound familiar?

And btw….MOST of you don’t have a fifth of Santana’s accomplishments or talent, and you know it. He’s more than earned his right to speak his mind and I hope to see more people like him saying,”Wait…wait….slow down before you throw that stone…THINK….THINK….for gods sakes…..THINK!!!

Thank you Carlos Santana for speaking out. This has always been a nation of immigrants and scapegoats. If we want to end “illegals” we’d have to deport all whites back to Europe and Blacks to Africa, but that is not realistic, and neither is deporting Latinos. There is no border for Walmart, Nike or Ford to go to Mexico, Philippines or other places to exploit workers. There is only hatred and attacks for poor people. Poor whites and poor Latinos and poor Blacks have a lot in common, they are really not each other’s enemy even if pitted against each other. God bless you Carlos Santana for speaking the truth. Those who know it’s the truth and it rubbed them the wrong away with react because it’s the truth and you will sense the defensiveness in their comments and attacks. I say hurahhh for Georgia and Arizona, and that it’s the rest of America that should be ashamed for not adopting more immigration laws like them. Our insurance rates for Americans are through the roof ,and our elderly can’t afford perscriptions ….all the while illegals are getting their medical bills and drugs paid for by hard working american tax payers. Not to mention them collecting social security from which they never paid a dime into. So, CARLOS I believe that it is the rest of America that should be ashamed for not adopting tougher immigration laws a long time ago letting this great nation get into this shape to begin with. Also to the bleeding heart liberals and the ACLU, we will NEVER be able to protect our own borders from outside threats as long as you are are screaming about racial profiling. If you know a certain race is killing your citizens on the streets and bombing buildings and killing your loved ones[fathers , mothers , brothers , and children ] then it’s STUPID not to profile.

Hey Shoeless Joe Jackson I agree. Are you Neil Boortz? Either way it doesn’t matter, I was just curious. Yes, we have to do something about “illegal” immigration and that’s the bottom line folks. We cannot be serious about homeland security and protecting our borders if we are not willing to confront the illegal immigration problem. All the people who want to be passive on this issue, why don’t you go try to live somewhere else illegally and see how fast your behind will get thrown in jail or shipped back home. (faster than a tick on a New York minute)
Rules and boundaries are in place for a reason and that is to protect us. We cannot seek to redefine every policy, standard and boundary in this country. If this is you..just stop. We are still one nation under God and founded on biblical principle.

Carlos Santana is an airhead that knows nothing about America and Civil Rights.
America generously allows a million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS in each year. We are a target for the scofflaws of all nations that come as ILLEGAL ALIENS, such as the Russian Mafia, Salvadoran MS-13, organized crime of Mexican drug cartels and the Muslim 9/11 terrorists. Most LEGAL IMMIGRANTS and ILLEGAL ALIENS come from Mexico.

In the last 15 years millions of legal immigrants from Mexico have followed their dream to America. They respect our laws, culture, freedom, opportunity and people. They have gladly submitted to extensive criminal background checks and health checks. They have paid $1,000s in fees, proven financial responsibility, agreed to not be a financial burden on our nation, learned English and waited patiently to become citizens of the U.S. and pledge their allegiance to our nation. They are honest, have integrity and good character and are welcome additions to our community.

During the same time millions more have come from Mexico illegally to make more money. They have overstayed visas and stolen across our borders like sneak thieves, disrespecting our laws, culture and citizens. They are anarchists, further breaking our laws by using stolen Social Security numbers, fraudulent identity documents, driving without valid licenses or insurance, lying on I-9 forms and taking American jobs in an unholy alliance with criminal employers. They suck services and tax dollars from our economy and could care less about the very real and very extensive economic damage they have caused to American workers through lost jobs and reduced wages. They are dishonest with poor integrity and tarnished character. They have proven themselves to be unworthy of the most valuable citizenship in the world.

Are you serious, are you an idiot, to say the pilgrims were illegal immigrants is moronic. There is really no talking to you, you believe the words of your liberal reps, “fairness” when really what they want is to control every aspect in your life. The way they start to win this control is to preach “fairness” and you are too stupid for me to spend my time how this turns into control. FYI, mexicans, illegal or legal these people are not liberals, they are trying to get away from a country that the liberals in this country want to have the usa become, so why would the mexicans side with the liberal party in usa. Give them a vote, you got the black race because you installed it into their entire culture, you are the reason blacks cant get over slavery. Mexicans are not liberal. Seriously? We see this all the time from aging movie stars, former celebrities, and now former drug addicted rock stars as their careers (and their finances) fade. Rather than take the honorable course and consign himself to being just a well paid studio musician, old Carlos makes the same mistake that other failing stars make in assuming that he can rebuild a fading career if only he gets enough media exposure. As a musician and former Santana fan, this is truly very sad. I make it a point to avoid any activity that transfers any of my income to any of these self serving losers. With such an enormous catalog of music behind him, and with so many of his former band members and associates depending on the income from selling CD’s, it’s outrageous when someone like Carlos decides to make “the product” part of his own curious “politics”. Doubtless if illegals were making a negative impact on the recording industry, Old Carlos would be out there demanding our government do something about it, just like all the musicians who joined with the RIAA to insure that nobody plays their stuff unless they get a royalty check. Sad, but fortunately Santana’s time has passed. Does he even still have a recording contract?

Lets put the issue in pragmatic terms that even Carlos can understand.

Overpopulation, congestion, urban sprawl, crumbling infrastructure, diminishing resources, crime, pollution, vanishing farmland and green space, water and energy shortages, lack of affordable housing, overcrowded schools, hospitals, jails, the balkanization of our communities, depressed wages, increased tax burdens, the marginalization of American workers, students, taxpayers, voters, the overall decline in quality of life are all the result of unconstrained immigration and lax enforcement. Indeed, there are no problems confronting America’s citizens that would NOT be immediately and measurably improved by securing our borders and enforcing our immigration laws. China, Mexico, Great Britain, the European Union, the Middle East, most of Asia, have all adopted zero tolerance policies for illegal immigration. These same nations have also implemented practices to identify, incarcerate, and deport illegal aliens already operating within their communities. Likewise these same countries have adopted policies aimed at curtailing legal immigration, limiting such legal immigration to only that which is prudent, only that which is demonstrably necessary, only that which can be readily assimilated, and above all other considerations, limited only to that which is in the best interests of their native populations! It’s dangerously misguided to even suggest that the United States not do likewise! Like it or not folks, regardless of how politicians, the media, and failing rock stars try to spin the narrative, the fact remains that “too many people competing for the same limited resources is NOT, and NEVER WILL BE, sane, sustainable social, economic or environmental policy! Hope that clears up the confusion that this is in any way an issue of race.

Actually, it wouldn’t be all that costly to identify, incarcerate, and deport illegal aliens that are already operating in our communities. Attrition through enforcement, essentially the premise under which all laws operate, would effectively end illegal immigration and reduce the taxpayer burdens of providing billions in education, healthcare, social services, law enforcement costs, etc,,, for illegal aliens already in our country.

By actually using enforcement practices already on the books, policies like matching numbers for social security and implementing E-Verify requirements, more American workers would benefit from employer competition for available legal workers. More working Americans equals more taxpayers. Indeed, the “American quality of life” (that was at one time arguably the envy of the world), is based on this competition for workers through wages, benefits and working conditions, that evolved over several hundred years, and prior to Liberal politicians opening the floodgates to illegal immigrants in the 70’s (along about the time Carlos was cranking out his hit records).

Attrition through enforcement is simply a scenario where you establish negative consequences that result from activities that run contrary to the interests of the community. These consequences must be swift and certain, and of sufficient punitive impact as to encourage others to avoid such activities. Rob a bank, go to jail. Violate our borders or overstay a visa, go to jail briefly, until such time as you are removed and returned to your native land. Call it the carrot and the stick. Certainly our existing immigration laws are already the most fair and forgiving of any nation on the planet. We allow over 1 million immigrants to enter and remain legally every year. Attrition through enforcement, SS number matching, E-Verify Requirements, work site raids, would be monumentally effective as they would address not only the illegal alien side of the equation, but the employer side as well. Further, by allowing the use of taxpayer funded resources (i.e. state and local police, health care professionals, social services, etc,,) to act as a force multiplier (one that is already paid for and doesn’t require additional federal bureaucracy in Washington, and that would not be subject to an Administrations re-election agenda) for federal immigration agencies, the costs of identifying, incarcerating and deporting illegal aliens is substantially reduced and thus public resources maximized. It’s hard to argue that state and local law enforcement have a better understanding of conditions on the ground in our communities, than some appointed bureaucrat in Washington who’s concerned that his Boss gets re-elected.

As more illegals and their dependents are removed by enforcement, the costs to taxpayers for continuing to support an enormous and growing population of illegal aliens is likewise reduced. One should not forget that with effective enforcement, the costs of enforcing and even deporting illegal aliens is reductive. The costs of allowing the status-quo to continue, allowing illegals to roam freely through our nation and it’s economy, will be infinite. As sanctions against employers for hiring or subcontracting illegal aliens is applied, the jobs magnet would end, and the number of prospective illegals would likewise decline. We should also consider the opportunities that would be created for American workers, entrepreneurs and government in the fields of law enforcement, incarceration, and transportation as the economy adapts it’s industry to identifying, incarcerating and removing illegal aliens. Certainly this alone would far offset any potential costs of enforcing our immigration laws and deporting the illegal aliens as necessary. Further, implementing “asset forfeiture” policies for illegal aliens and their employers, essentially denying them the ‘ill-gotten gains’ of their activities, would also help to offset the costs of enforcement and act as an additional dis-incentive for future illegal immigrants. In fact, the prospect of losing cash, jewelry, homes, cars, truck, tools, real estate, company assets, might be the most daunting impediment to future illegal immigration as both illegals and their employers would lose the very assets they broke our laws to gain.

I would note that asset forfeiture laws are already in use and effective in all fifty states, and by applying these same principals to immigration enforcement, we might actually create an environment whereby the majority of illegal aliens would self deport rather than lose their “ill-gotten gains”. Asset forfeiture as applied to illegal aliens and their employers would appeal to the American sense of justice. In a nutshell, the costs of deporting illegal aliens as they are encountered while initially high, would be finite, and reductive over time. Once a policy of effective enforcement is established, and the jobs and benefits magnet is ended, the incentives for illegal immigration would decline to negligible or at least manageable levels. The alternative is to allow the continuing escalation of unsustainable taxpayer burdens, environmental and resource degradation, and the oppressive loss of quality of life and opportunities that would result from continuing unconstrained immigration and lax enforcement policies.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION VS. NATIONAL SECURITY.

In 1986 a total of 3 millions illegal aliens received amnesty, and 20 years later we have over 11 millions illegal aliens roaming the nation, expecting or better yet, demanding to be legalized. So it is an undisputed fact that amnesty increases the flow of illegals thru our borders, and the more illegals attempt to cross the border, the harder it is for our border patrol officers to detect and capture any terrorist that might enter our country, via the southern or northern border, SO THE ENFORCEMENT OF OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS is in fact a NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE.

We need to take any and all necessary steps to make it impossible for illegal aliens to be able to rent any living quarters in our country, as well as absolutely impossible to obtain employment in our nation, thus the effect would be AUTO-DEPORTATION and a Strong Message that if you wish to come to our country, you must do it LEGALLY, otherwise you would not be able to survive as an illegal alien, hence the number of illegal aliens trying to cross the border will become very, very low, making it much easier for our border patrol officers to detect them and stop them, before they enter our nation, and in the process, WE WILL BE FAR MORE PROTECTED AGAINST THE ENTRANCE OF ANY TERRORIST TO OUR NATION.

So you see, the true enforcement of our immigration laws is in fact A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE and not a political or humane one.

Speaking as a tax payer, I don’t want to support the worthless individuals in prison. More money goes to support prisoners than you think. They have it made, while we scrimp and save, live paycheck to paycheck and rob Peter to pay Paul, the prisoners have three square meals a day, free to them medical coverage, dental, vision, tv, work out rooms, libraries, computers and education. I believe the families of the prisoners should be paying monthly for the NEEDS of their prisoners and unburden the taxpayers from this waste of tax money.

Common Sense

The word Illegal means just that. Not legal. When anyone tells you they want to debate illegal immigration tell them that there is no such thing as illigal immigration. Only legal immigration. What is the solution? For me, it is simple. COMMON SENSE. People come to this country for many reasons. But, the bottom line is to make money which provides a better life. Hey,, I support that. I support anyone that wants to be better. The answer is simple. Listen, this is going to be a shocker for some of you guys. IF YOU DONT PAY THEM, THEY WILL NOT COME. Bottom line people Basic Common Sense. Who created this problem. WE Americans did. It is our own greed in saving a penney and paying an illegal immigrant a portion of what we SHOULD pay someone who is legal. We created this problem and now we need to correct it. First, fine, tax, imprison those that hire illegals. Hit them in the wallet. Second, enforce border security. BUILD the wall. It can be done. If the Chinese did this in their early dynasty to keep out invaders, why can we not do it in 2011? Common sense. Anyone that is telling you that a wall cannot be built is wrong. If an ILLIGAL immigrant, trying to purposefully break the law by sneaking over the boarder, dies in the process due to the wall having been built, then a message will be sent and the walls purpose will be understood. IT IS TO KEEP OUT THOSE THAT HAVE NOT COME OVER LEGALLY. As we can see with the current wall, people are still coming over it. But the wall i am speaking of is a wall with men that have guns. Instead of paying out all this money to illigals, why not pay it to a border security force. We would save millions! COMMON Sense. Of course, i will see a dozen posts after this one that states it cant be done. It is wrong. My view is to cut and dry. Well yes, it can be done. No it is not wrong. YES my view is cut and dry which makes common sense. Illigals are not welcome. Legals are welcome. Come to America, be a better person, but do it legally.
