New “American Pie” flick seeks tons of extras

51AcepHEtzL._SX320_SY240_Up next from the “American Pie” series will be a look-back flick called “American Reunion.” The project, starring Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, Alyson Hannigan and a fresh-from-rehab Seann William Scott, will be filming here soon.

They need tons of extras to fill in the backgrounds of scenes, so here’s your shot.

Casting director Bill Marinella has announced an open casting call from 9 a.m. to noon May 7 at AMTC, 2000 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta.

First, the film needs high school students. You must be 18 but it’d be good if you look younger. Think cheerleaders, jocks, bikini-clad Spring Breakers, you get the picture.

Also needed are Mom and Dad types.

If you attend the casting call bring two forms of legal I.D. like your license or birth certificate.

Here’s a description of the film: “In this latest installment of the ‘American Pie’ franchise, all of your favorite characters from the original film are back to celebrate their 10-year high school reunion. Along the way, old …

Ludacris makes surprise appearance at “Fast Five” screening

"Fast Five," starring both Ludacris and his cognac label, opens Friday.

"Fast Five," starring both Ludacris and his cognac label, opens Friday.

“Check…check,” said the voice from the back of the theater.

Huh? A mic check at a movie screening?

Well, yes. Ludacris was in the house. The rapper-restaurant owner-businessman and now actor made a surprise appearance Tuesday night at an advance screening of “Fast Five,” the latest installment in the “Fast and the Furious” series. The movie opens on Friday.

“I’m really proud of this movie,” Ludacris said, joking that he was missing a Hawks game to be there, such is devotion to his art. “I hope you enjoy it!”

A fair amount of shooting for the project happened here, and although the movie is set mostly in Brazil you can spot Atlanta if you’re on your toes. A couple of outdoor party scenes were filmed downtown around the Georgia Dome, an auto shop scene was filmed in the Reynoldstown area and a snippet of the stylized “Atlanta” sign near Philips Arena is visible for just a split …

Storms shutter Atlanta Symphony Showhouse

2011houseThe Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s 2011 Decorators’ Show House will be closed today due to downed trees and power lines in the area. The damage knocked out power to the home.

The house will reopen on Wednesday, and thereafter is scheduled to be open for tours through May 8. For hours of operation, tickets and other information see the event web site.

A presentation by silver historian Joseph P. Brady, which had been planned for tonight, has been canceled, as organizers were unsure when the power might be restored. That event may be rescheduled.

Known as the “Lotus House,” the home is at 1945 West Wesley Rd. Events surrounding the tour, including a series of luncheons and lectures, benefit the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Although the lights are out, somebody’s home. Security guards are there keeping watch.

Arthur Blank’s $3 million gift to Children’s Healthcare

arthur_stephanieAtlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank just announced a $3 million gift to the Child Protection Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The gift was made through The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to honor his wife Stephanie’s support of Children’s; she serves as a trustee.

The center will now be named the Stephanie V. Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children.

“I am humbled that Arthur and our family selected child protective services,” Stephanie Blank said in a statement. “The Child Protection Center was the first place at Children’s I toured more than a decade ago, even before I joined the Foundation Board. When I learned about the care and hope the Center and its staff provide to these vulnerable children, I was committed instantly to supporting the program.”

The center promotes the safety and well-being of children through community advocacy and the identification, assessment and prevention of child abuse.

“Protection against child abuse, neglect and …
