You might see a sniper running around the Marietta Square this weekend.

Relax! It’s an actor!

Students from Chattahoochee Technical College will be filming a movie for a class project this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the city of Marietta said on its Web site.

“Filming will take place around the Square, between Cherokee and Hansell streets and from the rooftop of the Cobb County parking deck on Cherokee Street,” the city’s notice reads. “An actor portraying a sniper will be on the roof of the parking deck, but no shots will be fired.”

No streets around the Square will be closed during filming. In case of bad weather, the shoot will be rescheduled to March 10-13.

For more information contact Marietta’s Parks and Recreation Department, 770-794-5601

Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton are in Atlanta shooting a movie called “Joyful Noise.”

The project has set up shop south of town, in Fayette and Coweta counties, and did some filming at the historic Dallas Theatre in Paulding County, before moving back to Atlanta. (Here’s a column about the Paulding County shooting).

Now the production folks are offering free admission to a huge gospel choir scene.

Participants need to arrive at the Atlanta Civic Center at 7 a.m. Monday, March 7, and be prepared to hang around for six to eight hours.

(Hey, that’s show biz).

In addition to witnessing movie magic, folks who show up to fill out the background of this scene are eligible for door prizes, cast autographs, T-shirts and assorted giveaways.

They’ll also provide refreshments, and Extras Casting Atlanta will be on hand scouting for extras for this and other movies.

If you want in, let them know you’re coming by e-mailing joyfulaudience@gmail.com.
