Gucci Mane does not dream small.
The Atlanta rapper talked to The Source Magazine for its April “Green” issue. He said he wants to be “the richest person in Atlanta,” and that he’s becoming so famous he can scarcely live his life.
“I’m so big in Atlanta right now, I can’t even go outside,” Gucci says in an excerpt the magazine sent us. “It never used to be like this. Now old people, white people, all people know who I am. Like people almost wrecking their car to take a picture of my car.”
Gucci says people have followed him home seeking an autograph and that a police office once pulled him over just to see his ride.
“Yesterday, I’m in my Ferrari, I get pulled over, the cop comes to the car and says, ‘Sorry, I just wanna see the inside of your Ferrari.’ I swear to God.”
Gucci was detained briefly when Henry County authorities raided the home of fellow rapper Waka Flocka Flame in December, but he didn’t discuss that.
“I can’t really go into detail, but I was detained, released, and wasn’t charged with any crime,” Gucci said. “When you go through stuff like that, you just got to shut your mouth and wait ‘til it blows over.”
Records show the artist, whose real name is Radric Davis, has been in the Fulton County Jail at least five times since 2005 on drug, aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges. But Gucci’s all about looking ahead.
“When I came out of school, I had a 3.4 GPA,” said Gucci, who went to Georgia Perimeter College. “I was always a smart guy. I always prided myself on being a challenger and making challenging decisions. I’m not perfect, but I definitely try my best to be a good person that makes wise decisions.”

Caleb…I think there are lots of folks out there that think like I do…but just like music today…no one wants to hear us. We are viewed as the idiots and Gucci and his crew are viewed as gods.
Its sad.. All we can do it just try to live life right. These fools usually meet the brick wall and fall. They live for the moment and not for a lifetime.

Who is he? I have no idea what he sings, am 25, and have lived in Atlanta my whole life… Find some modesty you jerk. He is the epitome of what is wrong with my generation and the message he sends to youth everywhere is brainwashing them. Rap about $ you barely have, gain a position of being extremely confident just to look like a “baller”, and then rag on those who are not as “popular” as you. Spend your $ on Ferrari’s so you appear to be Atlanta’s richest, devote all your energy to music to hopefully rule the world one day, then talk about it in an interview for a magazine. He doesn’t have it all… Modesty and humility seemed to pass this “winner” by years ago. I’m embarrassed that this is what we allow to represent Atlanta and I’m sure he’ll be in our “Atlanta, Where Every Day is an Opening Day” song very soon…

One more note. The whole college comment made by him was hilarious. Almost as funny as Waka Flocka saying on national TV that he wants a degree in Geometry b/c he’s a “mathematic”. The hell is a mathematic? And once the idiot realizes there is no such thing as a degree in Geometry, he can choose the degree program in grammer “All that ass…in those jeans…” C’mon my dude.

I feel for the kids who led to believe sports or rap are their only means out of the ghetto. No one teaches them that a good education will get you just as far. These poor kids want a the quickest route out with the least amount of effort…(again like rap and sports)

Joe the policeman … you are the problem. You support a fool like Gucci, but a black dude that will not have any of it…is doing dirty work for the AJC? Gee now I know how Bill Cosby felt when he tried to say the same stuff a few years back. It just illustrates why folks cannot get ahead just by being intelligent. There will always be a group of folks that cannot see the forest for the tree’s. Gucci and Waka…pillars of the community. Folks like me…Uncle Tom. Ok… I’ll be your Uncle.

Seriously?
Your post is a classic example of why retards and troglodytes should not be allowed to blog. You accuse Aaron of being stupid and/or somehow maladjusted, but with your horribly flawed grammar and logic you essentially reveal who the REAL joke is in this picture.
Oh wait, I forgot… stupid people aren’t very good at knowing they’re stupid.

UGA please tell me who administers the program for the University System of GA? Exactly. UGA does. GA Perimeter is also not a Prep School because you can get your nursing degree from a 2 year school. A Prep school would be of the one year variety sort of like I had the option of attending prior to going to West Point or my best friend had prior to him attending the Naval Academy.

Ferarri huh? HAhahahahaha What a loser! Guci Mane doesn’t even have a Ferarri! He drives a beige Toyota 4-Runner. I know because I live on his street. He lives in a gated community with his mom in a golf country club. There’s never been a Ferrari at his house either. I’ve been inside the house and its like a ghetto crack house but larger. There’s dog crap on the floor, holes in the sheet rock etc. Yep. He’s so big in the old ATL! hahahahaha

I’m sure Bill Cosby gave up on Atlanta years ago. It’s too far gone. Can anyone explain to me the continued pants around the knees fad? That’s been going on for 10 years at least, and you would think someone would come up with something new. Do these guys not realize it just makes them look like hundreds of thousands of other thugs in Atlanta? I couldn’t pick one out in a lineup.

Why cant he inspire to be the richest person in the city he lives in???? I would want any person to inspire to have things and be successful.
@He said what..He lives in the very popular Eagle Landings neighborhood. So he is house is pretty nice.
I dont agree with some of the things he has done but everybody is in titled to self improvement. Where does it say once a person does wrong that they cant learn from it and do better? I think most of the hate stems from people looking in the mirror at themselves and asking why cant I have this and that and why does Gucci mane have all of that, he doesnt deserve it. Well guess what you are not the judge God is and he has chosen to bless Gucci with riches. Hopefully Gucci does the right thing with his money and if he doesnt then it’s his to lose. To all the people who said they havent heard of him. Guess what??? You have now!

Here’s what I don’t get about the pants around the ankles fad. They can only utilize one of their arms b/c the other has to always be holding their pants up. Its hilarious when I’ll drive by and see them struggling trying to carry something b/c they only have access to one of their hands. I just don’t understand how stupid one could be. Is it that important to “look cool” then to have two functioning limbs. Its pretty unreal when you think about it.

To all the none african americans that have things to say about the young man. What he makes does not have any affect on your life other than the fact that you are mad that he makes more money than you do. I can re call my grandmother who is white telling my uncles that the garbage rock n roll music they were listening to is destroying there brains. Yes rock n roll talk about the same things rap talk about just in a different way. Most rock n roll stars of the 70’s and 80’s are rich as hell by selling all that sex and drug talk!! Yes they created the moniker sex, drugs and rock n roll remember???? Rap is the new Rock n Roll people.. Live with it or kill yourself if you like. Remember the world is over populated anyway. Haha

@T.O..Not a stretch at all buddy.. I listen to all types of music. Go do your research and you let me know. Different Rock n roll artist and Heavy metal artist talk about different things just as Rap artist do. Every rap artist is not the same and vice versa. Is killing someone or something in both genre of music? The answer is Yes. Is having lots of women a reference in both genre of music? The answer is yes. Is experimenting with drugs referenced in both genre of music? The answer is a YES! Did/Does some parents of kids that listen to this type of music complain about?? YES!! Do the artist consider themselves outkast of the general community??? YES!! So please stop with the hate. If you dont like the music dont listen. Simple!! I get it though people get so mad at the next person success its painful to read or hear about it. Oh yea to the people giving suggestions on how someone else spends his or her money GET A LIFE. That is how you would spend your money or so you say you would if you had it. Plus you guys dont know how he spends it unless you know him. By the way his Manager Deb Antney is big in charity work and none profit events so I bet she does have him involve in those sort of things

Jennifer Brett-
Shame on you and the AJC for picking up this story.. You read The Source? Really?
You know the racial aspect of these message boards are quite volatile.. yet you fan the flames with this story? Gucci Mane is an entertainer who makes outlandish records and outlandish statements. No one takes this guy seriously, he is a rapper and his job is to project an image.
No reason to post this except for extra PAGEVIEWS and more racist comments. You should take note of esteemed colleague Mark Bradley, who deletes any posts with the word “thug” due to its implication of racial undertones.

Now when you rap about something up lifting the white record companies tell them it will not sell, you never hear a whites, jews, or other groups degrading their communities?
Our young generation of rappers are nothing but 1920’s black face minstel showman, remember Stepin Fetchit was rich during his time, Lilttle Wayne and the rest of these rappers are our Stepin Fetchit of 2011.

@What a joke. I agree with you on the Mcnair thing!! LOL.. He wasnt dumb but the school he went to dont care just as much as the students dont. High school is more about applying yourself. Most kids dont apply themselves well in school specially if they didnt have a parent or guardian at home teaching those core values. See Caucasians have that type of help mostly. A lot of Caucasians have that to their advantage and cant understand if some one does not. I graduated out of high school with a 2.4 but I now have 2 degrees.
