Big “Extreme Makeover” scene filming today in McDonough

ABC’s “Extreme Makeover” is taping a big scene today in McDonough.

They’re not too particular about who attends.

“ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SHOW UP,” reads an announcement from the crew working on this. “Your guests / friends too.”

If you and your crew want in, you do need to pay attention to what you wear. Don’t wear all-black, all-white or anything with logos. Think “nice casual,” and dress for the weather.

You’ll also have to sign an agreement to appear on camera. We’re guessing it’ll be a release saying yes, ABC can use your likeness on camera and no, you won’t expect to be paid for it. We’re guessing you’ll be asked to leave your cameras and cell phones in the car.

This is happening from 1:30 to 5 p.m. today at Southern Belle Farms, 1658 Turner Church Road.

The scene is the “big reveal” where everyone cheers for the person who has been through the “Extreme Makeover” process. We don’t know who that is, but we’re sure someone will let us know. After all it looks like there will be quite a crowd.

I doubt they’ll make people leave their cameras in the car, because if you watch carefully in past episodes, you can see some folks in the background usually snapping pictures during the reveal when it happens. Note that the event itself is considered copyrighted though, and you won’t be able to re-broadcast it (not even on youtube) unless ABC gives you permission (which they won’t). You can only use the pics/video you take for personal viewing purposes (do I sound like a lawyer? lol).

I don’t know if I could go and applaud anyway. 80% of the people who get these homes wind up losing them down the road because they can’t afford the re-adjusted taxes and utilities they require to keep them up. The sentiment is nice, but I don’t know why they build folks these McMansion type places when all they need (and could afford to keep up) are just really well built NORMAL homes.

Atlantaphotog obviously you have not watched the show in several years, they no longer build those McMansion’s as you called them. And they also now build greener houses that create their own electricity and even sell the excess back to the local power company. And your also way off with your 80% losing their houses only 1 person has actually lost their house, and that was because they bowered money to start a business and then couldn’t pay the loan back.

Sorry – YOU get your facts straight before you get redneck with me (dammit, put your Coors down, it’s just a comment). Several people have lost their homes or sold them so they could get something with lower taxes and lower utility costs. It’s been WIDELY reported. Have I watched the last few shows? No because I got bored with it to be frank. But if they’re putting solar panels or wind turbines on these new “greener” models, I’d also be interested to know if they come back later to fix these things if they are damaged by wind/hail – as it costs a few THOUSAND dollars to fix solar panels and a few hundred (minimum) to fix wind turbines.

I’d like to see a list of how many of the homes are in foreclosure. Somebody needs to do a “How are they doing now?” kind of follow-up show for all of these Extreme Make Overs.

Dave, if “extreme’ ever did that you can be assured you’d only see the stories of the people who were able to make it well and keep the homes, after the makeover. They would never acknowledge those who lost or had to sell the homes.

It’s kind of like the HGTV Dream Home – very few of the people who win them keep them once they realize the taxes/upkeep involved in it. There are actual realtors who would show up at the winners party back when they had them, to try to talk the winners into selling the home right off the bat. These days they don’t fool with flying the winner out to the home for the event and just present them with a car and news at their homes, but they’re contacted almost immediately by realtors. This year they’re actually allowing the winner to have the choice of the home or “market value in cash” as an alternate. They kept this stuff a secret forever, but their own web boards eventually caught up with them and people who knew people who won the things started reporting what was happening. This isn’t THAT different.

Some of you bloggers can turn these things in to the most STUPID debates about nothing that concerns 99% of the crap you all or going back and forth about. GEEZ GET A LIFE AND AS LONG AS YOUR HOUSE IS NOT IN NEED OF A MAKEOVER OR BEING FORECLOSED ON, BE HAPPY FOR SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOUR SORRY SELF FOR CHANGE. THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD; YOU TAKE SOEMTHING GOOD FOR SOMEONE AND TURN IT IN TO SOMETHING IT IS SO NOT SUPPOSED TO BE. GROW UP AND GET A LIFE.
