Margaret Cho, the comedian, “Drop Dead Diva” actress and past “Dancing With the Stars” contestant performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center.
Tickets are $39 and $49; see www.ferstcenter.gatech.edu for details.
We have drawn a name at random and contacted the winner of 2 tickets by e-mail. Congrats and thanks to all for entering. We’ll do another giveaway soon!
We talked with the part-time Atlantan, who lives here when “Diva” is filming in Peachtree City, by phone the other day.
Q: Does Atlanta feel like home?
A: The cast of “Drop Dead Diva” and I are close. We’re big foodies. We’re at Holeman & Finch at 10 o’clock, waiting for those hamburgers. I’ve made a lot of friends at the Vortex, Laughing Skull. The show that I work on there is this wonderful opportunity to settle in a new town. Being in the South, people are willing to put their differences aside to be sweet to each other. No matter how you feel about politics, people are unfailingly kind.
Q: What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you in Atlanta?
A: It involves the Clermont Lounge at 1 in the morning.
Q: What happens on this season of “Diva?” Are you going to dance again?
A: Maybe! We don’t know exactly what’s going to happen.
Q: You did great on “Dancing With the Stars.” Do you miss wearing your sparkly costumes?
A: I really enjoyed the glitz and the glamour of it all. It was really physical. But no, I don’t even like wearing make up all that much.
Q: You seem so nice. Does it surprise people when they meet you that you’re so mild-mannered?
A: Ha! People always think I’m like Sam Kinison all the time.
Q: How’s your plan to pose for Playboy going?
A: I’m still holding out!

She’s great, been a fan for many years. I remember WAY back when she had her own TV sitcom on ABC, think this was still during the “Boy Meets World” years… so dating myself there. Anyway, she’s got a lot of sass and talent!

Knowing that Margaret was on Dancing with the Stars made me wish I watched that show – but only for an instant!
Whenever I visit the Clermont I only see Blondie and a bunch of drunken nobodies – never anyone worth chatting with like Margaret…

Margaret Cho is really neat. Saw her about 15 years ago when she was doing a college tour. Remember that, Miz Cho? COLLEGE TOURS?!?!? I’m sure you’re as mortified by that thought as I am by the fact that I can now cite memories in decades….

Favorite Cho item was on one of her standup videos, telling about her fantasy to launch a new perfume, complete with wind, big swinging doors, dramatic entrances and zooming cameras to reveal her name. Hilarious! The Ferst Center is a great place to see her live. Good luck to everyone entering the contest.

Calling Maggie funny is like calling cholera a nuisance. i have seen ms. cho ranting on the various media and I have to tell you I’d rather be mauled by pitbull than attend a live performance from the acerbic ms. Cho.
Some people say women aren’t funny, I would have to say this is untrue and it is merely a chance of genetics that finds Mags being both unfunny and a woman. I’m sure she would be equally insipid as a man.
Hope you enjoy your stay in Atlanta and wisely spend the time learning some new jokes and working on some new material.

I really love Margaret Cho, I think she is one of the best comedians of our times, that has not been recognized fully in the industry for her talents and abilities to make even skeptics, at their first glance of her, believers that she is truely a talent. I would love to see her live, as I was really pulling for her on dancing with the stars her personallity alone should have won the competition.. Hands Down!!
