Dolly Parton is back in town!

Remember when Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance at the end of “9 to 5 The Musical,” starring Snellville’s Diana DeGarmo?

This was in October and Parton strutted onstage toward the end of two performances at the Fox Theatre. Here’s a link to that story.

She said at the time that she was in town working on a possible film project. Well, she’s back working on that project now. Parton and Queen Latifah are starring in a film called “Joyful Noise,” in which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they play “a pair of ladies who work to stop the closure of a scrappy gospel choir.”

Parton was spotted Sunday at the matinee performance of “Bring it On: The Musical,” which is at the Alliance Theatre through Feb. 20.

Attorney C. David Trivino and his brother Wilson Trivino were picking up tickets to the 7:30 p.m. show when they saw the petite blonde leaving the theater. “She was very sweet,” C. David Trivino said. “We mentioned to her that we saw ‘9 to 5′ when it was at the Fox. We asked for a photo, she said, ’sure honey!’”

Two of my favorite people – I would love to meet them both. Glamorous, sexy, strong women who overcame adversity to become successful.

A Dahlonega, North Georgia connection in the movie as well. Karen Peck Gooch, a grammy nominated gospel singer who leads the group Karen Peck & new River, and who lives in Dahlonega, will be singing and leading the small gspel choir in the movie. Karen & Dolly have a conection through performances at Dollywood.

I like the fact that dolly parton wears nothing but 5 inch heels. I dont think i’ve ever seen a photo of her or a performance of her wearing anything lower than 5 inch heels.

I would love to be a extra in the movie. I love the versatility of them both, i am especially a Queen Latifah fan going way back. She has always been able to change with the times.

Soldiers died today, people were kidnapped and loved ones were lost. People woke up and strapped on boots to defend our nation and they paid the ultimate sacrifice and this is what you chose to make news. Great work! Is it news if there are more people that don’t care about it than do care?

@ BravesFan: Hey, numb nuts, this story is in the entertainment section. Get over it. The events you listed indeed are news–and happen each and every day–and are sad and unfortunate. Does that mean we should ban entertainment, joy, smiles, laughter, fun, etc.?

@ BravesFan: entertainment section is to entertain. You are a miserable douche, why are you even in this section of the paper? Now go back to your talk radio and complain about the economy to the guys at the bar.

Braves Fan,

That’s all correct. You might prefer reading the Nation/World section of ajc.com, which covers those sorts of stories. Here is the link:

@BravesFan, sometimes you have to get out of the real world to keep from losing your mind. We all know the sacrifices the soldiers are making for a war that former President Bush put our young men & women in so that they could come back in body bags while he enjoys his nice, comfortable cushy life. @John, you are correct, I don’t always want to hear about the evils & bad of the world, I like to get out of the real world sometimes & hear something nice for a change. If hearing about Dolly & her heels, etc., will take me out of this cold, cruel world for even a minute, I will be happy with that. What the world needs now is love sweet love.

If your response is “zzzzzzzz”, why would you even read the article? Could you not tell by the title that it probably wouldn’t interest you?

@Good Vs. Bad: So I guess the body bags that come home now from Irag and Afghanastan since Obama is in the White House don’t count. Remember, it is Obama that insisted that our troops go to Afghanastan and fight. That’s his little war.

Do they need extras for the film? Queen Latifah and Dolly? The movie should prove to be quite humorous.

LOVE IT! Thanks John and Ken! I won my bet! You two and your responses are exactly what I was hoping for. You use terms like “numb nuts” and “miserable douch” yet you’re really into Dolly Parton. I think I have you two pegged pretty well. Have fun at Blake’s this weekend, maybe you two will meet!

My comment has nothing to do with who the article is about, seen some of her movies when I was a kid and that is about it. I could care either way about her. Ignorant people who look for the negative in everything gets on my nerves. I actually have a ton of gay friends, get to know one and you wont think it is such a bad thing. Dont let your one bad experience with your buddy drunk one night ruin your thoughts of the gays.

@Bravesfan Please stop implying that some one is gay. You are saying that like it would be a bad thing to be. It is called bullying. Teenage kids are killing themselves over that kind of behavior. Thanks for the “I have a gay friend too” crap. Bet you have a “black” one as well. If you do have a gay friend, trust me they would not like you using being gay as being a put down. Try using douche bag, a**hole, or any of the many other words instead. I am sure you have heard those words before.

I assume the bet Bravesfan had was who got to be the bottom out of his baseball watching buddies. Most the time when someone is that homophobic they are the ones in the bathroom at the airport doing the stall dance with the guys next to him. Come out, come out Bravesfan, it is ok, your wife already knows.
