Actress Vivica A. Fox will be the keynote speaker at Fort Valley State University’s freshman convocation next week.

Fox, who is engaged to local club promoter Omar “Slim” White, will address the young scholars at 6 p.m. Jan. 26  in the C.W. Pettigrew Center auditorium.

No word on whether White will also be making the trip to Fort Valley, a town south of Macon and west of Bonaire and Perry. The two attended the opening of R&B artist Ne-Yo’s new Buckhead boutique on Tuesday.

Fox, of South Bend, Ind., earned an associate degree in social science from Golden West College. Her many big and small-screen credits include “Independence Day,” “Set it Off,” “Kill Bill, Vol. 1,” “Ella Enchanted” and “Soul Food,” along with TV Land’s “The Cougar,” and VH1’s “Glam God.” series.

Not appropriate! They could find a person more respectable as a woman and more accomplished. It is not like she is Oprah, Condolezza, Mae Jamison, Cicily Tyson, etc.

she used to be pretty.idk what made her think she needed plastic surgery on her face.only subtle changes should be done there unless youre ugly to start with but usually ugly people cant afford it.

@Ryan ~ I’m leaning toward your position as well, but I don’t know every detail about her. Most vividly is her almost losing her mind over 50Cents prowess in between the sheets (LOL).

SHe lost all kudos when she was a dancer for the Ying Yang Twins on an award show a few years back. She is not the “A” list actress she wants people to think she is, or in fact, that she thinks she is. Plastic surgery has definitley altered her appearence for the worse. She was a beautiful woman (look back at Soul Food); she got bitten by the “lose your confidence bug” as she got older.

Well…this is a small, country college….not an Ivy League school by any stretch of the imagination.

Dark Brown you do have a point there. Don’t expect Fort Valley to pull in a Halle Berry type. Her plastic surgery is a lil bothersome and the engagement to a guy that’s about 20 years younger than her. Whatever happen to her and that other guy from Atlanta. Can’t remember his name, it was like 6Foot or something like that.

I’m sorry to hear negative comments about Fort Valley State University.

I was privileged to hear the school’s president, Dr. Larry Rivers, speak at an event in Atlanta a little over a year ago. He displayed great passion for education, excellence and achievement.

Ms. Brett,

I didn’t consider my comment regarding FVSU negative – just matter of fact.

I would think that their “speaking engagement” budget would not allow for the speakers mention who I am sure command much higher fees and sure cannot rival that of schools with a larger student base and that charge much higher tuitions.

Fort Valley State, like many other HBCU’S don’t have the budget to hire hi profile speakers unless it is a special occasion. I don’t think a speaking engagement to a Freshman class is top priority. She is a good choice for this because they can relate to her and she is cheap. Most HBCU’S spend most of their contributions/funds on academics, which is what’s important. If you are an African American male that studied at Harvard, most whites are still not going to respect you…hint.hint..HBCU’S will always focus on academics and not all that other stuff. Both my kids attend HBCU’S and I could not be happier with their progress. They understand that the odds are against them no matter where they attend school because of how some people view them. I don’t know why everything always have to be about race in this country. Maybe that’s why we are so far behind in everything.

Miss Fox is a fine looking lady and is the perfect lady to speak to the freshman class. FVSU is not a country school. They have turn out some outstanding Alumni’s. Lots of Doctors, lawyers, politictions, teacher and college presidents. So Stop hating on the Valley.
