Conyers native in the running as Playboy’s Playmate of the Year

Playboy’s Miss April, Amy Leigh Andrews of Conyers, is in the running for Playmate of the Year.

The 26-year-old Georgia State University communications grad now lives in Los Angeles, where she stays busy going out on casting calls when not traveling to make appearances for Playboy. She plans to complete a graduate degree and would love to be an on-air host of some sort.

We talked to her by phone the other day.
Q: What have you learned as a result from your experience with Playboy?
A: It’s made me a more well-rounded person. It’s brought me out of my shell. I’m not afraid to get up and speak in front of crowds.
Q: You probably aren’t bothered by those see-through scanners at airports either, huh?
A: Not at all! I always seem to get picked for [more thorough screenings].
Q: Were there people who were mean to you in high school? Do you love running into them now and saying, “Check me out, I’m Miss April?”

A: Absolutely. Now they try to act like, “Hey, girl, next time you’re in town, let’s have lunch?” Ha-ha. We were not friends. But I do have tons of friends who are so supportive. I love keeping in touch through Facebook.
Q: Are you single?
A: I have a boyfriend. He’s very understanding.

IMO, a feature on Ms. Andrews would be much better than the fecal matter that passes for local news in this town.

I guess she would not be worried about scanners! She would be glad to oblige to further her career. She is taking advantage of her 15 minutes of fame. Don’t know if any television stations would be hiring her but I am sure she will appear in some type of low rent movie some time in the future.

I can’t see why Georgia residents should celebrate a girl’s “achievement” for being named “Playmate of the Year.” It’s certainly not something I or, I hope my daughters will aspire. With all the great things children are doing, particularly this time of year, can’t the writers find something truly a value-add to our community.
I’m not disparaging this young lady, but she took her clothes off…something we all do (hopefully) 365 days a year. Poor choice.

atlgirl-By your statements it appears you think that AJC does NOT cover those types of stores too? I think they do. I see the “feel good” stories in here once in awhile. I don’t think any news media covers the positive stories as much as they do the negative because it doesn’t sell papers or get viewers nearly as much as the shocking negative ones. It’s a business. Secondly, have you seen stories in the paper about local girls that are on America’s Next Top Model? What if one was to be on American Idol? (they have been) It’s a level of fame, right? What’s so different about Playboy? Modeling is modeling, right? So what’s so different that this is a story? Seems quite like the Top Model crap that also get notoriety. Ahhh the difference is she’s naked modeling… So what?!
