Former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush signed their books and met hundreds of fans, many of whom started lining up hours ahead of time in the early morning drizzle, today at the Buckhead Borders.
Here is a gallery of photos from the event.
Despite the weather the event started on time and went very smoothly. Security was very tight, and guests went through a metal detector and had their bags searched. (A K-9 detective sniffed over the press early on to make sure we were all OK).
Former President Bush signed his book, “Decision Points,” while Mrs. Bush signed “Spoken From the Heart.” Both chatted amiably with the people who had stood in line yesterday to purchase the books and again this morning to have them signed.
“Good morning! Happy holidays! Good to see you!” Mrs. Bush said as guests filed by to have their books signed.
One woman got choked up at the sight of the former president.
“Aw, come on,” President Bush said. “If you cry, I’ll cry.”

Lisa Craft spent some quality time with the former first couple this morning.
Lisa Craft, an HR consultant from Atlanta, declared as she approached the former first couple, “I’m going to kiss him!”
We found this inadvisable, given all the heat packing the room. But she did!
“Do you see? I kissed them both!” Craft said afterward. “He said, ‘you’re a sweet girl.’”
She didn’t get much face time with the former commander in chief, though.
“There’s so much I wanted to say. I wanted to tell him what a wonderful example he set as a God-fearing man who put the country first,” Craft said. Then inspiration struck. “Do you think they’d let me take a picture with him? I bet you if I asked the president he would say, sure.”
We said that also sounded inadvisable.
“Let’s just try. I tend to get away with a lot,” the crafty Craft said. But we persuaded her to take a photo with a stack of books instead.
Georgia State University marketing instructor Linda Willis said she didn’t mind the frosty wait today and yesterday. Only people who braved yesterday’s cold to buy the books in advance and receive a wristband got in today.
“They shook our hands and spoke. It was a pleasure to meet them,” said Willis, who unlike Craft kept her hands off the former prez and his wife. “Being able to see a president and first lady in person was a privilege. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

If you knew much about the “mess”, you’d know that the “mess” was caused by your dem friends including Barney Frank. If Bush had had more time in office I’m sure he would have gotten in taken care of. Can’t say PresBO has gotten anything fixed yet. I just got back from the signing event and meeting President and Mrs. Bush. I stood in line 3 1/2 hours yesterday to get the wristband and another 2 1/2 hours today to meet them and get the signed books. They are both a prime example of class and character and was happy to wait to meet them. If President Obama ever comes to sign books and meet people, I would probably stand in line to meet him too. After all, there have been less than 50 men that became President in the history of this country and it would be an honor to meet any President – even those that you may not agree with on everything.

Why don’t you go back and review foreign policy/lack thereof during the Bush era. Why don’t you go back and review Bush’s success as a business man prior to fleeing to public office. Other than neat phrases like “evil-doers” and other than choking on a pretzel, he really didn’t give us much to look back and smile upon. Mr. Bush was a president who knew what needed to be done, in times of emergency, for his country- which he had sworn to protect and to keep it safe.
Besides, this isn’t about who inherited what- it’s about what the person had done in order to keep our country safe.
Obama has proven that he is unfit for the job numerous times, as we saw how his own democratic party was too busy fooling around with monkey business than what was at hand.
There were 4 incidents of a possible bomb threat which only was avoided by the grace of God.
After 9-11, Bush managed to keep from anything happening again.
And, yes this wasn’t something that just came about during Bush’s watch- it had been from years of lack of ethics of the previous administration, who -simply put- could have, should have, but didn’t.

You are a complete moron. The depressions was caused by your democrat leaders that were supposed to take this country to the promise land but have continued to bury it even deeper into the trenches, and all you can do is try and point the finger at another guy. Bush did spend a lot with the war, but he also stands for what this country is, and that is hard working American’s making this the best place on Earth, while not taking any crap or threats from anyone. Typical of your kind though, instead of manning up and issuing the facts. Go crawl back in your little pity hole and spit your harmless words to the other followers that never have a solution, only negativity.
jami,
You had to buy both books in order to get a wristband to meet W and Miss Laura. I was in line the latter part of yesterday and I would say atleast 4000-5000 copies sold. I missed out by like 5 people, so naturally I was pretty upset that I wouldn’t get to meet the first president I was ever capable of voting for during my first presidential election at 18.

Obama is still the one pointing the finger at George W. Bush, two years after he took office, and four years after the Democrats controlled the House and Senate. Your homeboy in office has only allowed everything to get worse. Take a look at the AJC front page and how unemployment in Georgia has risen above 10%. George W. Bush did not do that. Shall we look at the debt that has doubled under Obama, his lavish vacations every other week, and his Healthcare that only has people in this country ticked off, except the ones leaching off society. It all started with Bill Clinton and the faulty loaning of the banks that he approved of, so please get your story straight. Go look at the statistics and you’ll get a true dose of your own medicine. He is just pulling himself deeper into a hole-
and no, Big Jim – I am not saying it his only his skin tone and intelligence are what make him unfit.
He could be a very smart man, but he is someone who doesn’t know how to handle the job of Commander – in- Chief, simply because he was inexperienced, he has used this to take many vacations, play many golf games, even basketball games, and so he makes a few gestures during a press conference- does that make him know what he is doing and talking about?
The man has proven time and time again that he has no idea what the heck is he doing to keep this country safe, to rebuild the economy, to protect our citizens, and not only that to keep equality among us either.

Every President is going to be criticized for some decisions. 8 months into Bush’s first term he had to deal with the aftermath of 9/11. The first major attack in the continental US ever in our history. He made sure it didn’t happen again, but I’m not as convinced we are safer under Obama’s administation because they are too busy not offending anyone. Yes, Bush signed too much spending that come out of both Republican and Democrat controlled congresses. All presidents have done that including Reagan. The extent that the current adminstration is spending is going to cost us for the next 20 years.
The thing no one can be critical of GWB is that he sincerely cares about this country and did what he could to make everyone of us safe and secure. He is a good guy that had to make a lot of unpopular decisions. He has admitted when he was wrong too – don’t expect that when we read Obama’s memiors in 2013.

Hey Warren, just what did Mr. Bush get wrong? Iraq? Every nation on earth supported taking Sadaam out, Bush had the guts to do it. And the world is better.
The economy? No president controls economic activity, and the lax regulatory environment that fomented the housing bubble was created by Bubba…er, Bill Clinton, not George Bush.
Keeping us safe? He took on unimaginable challenges at a time when there were real, capable enemies seeking to harm us, and kept them away. (At the time of 9/11, he had been president for less than 8 months, so don’t say GB failed there.)
Being a moral, loyal, God-fearing man who loved his family? Guilty as charged. Despite the most obnoxious,anti-administration media environment in our history, no one ever – EVER – found dirt on George Bush. He restored honor to the presidency, a huge accomplishment after the Clinton/Lewinsky mess and the raw, underhanded dealings of Hillary.
Oh, and talk to Bono, a true left wing Hollywood hero, about which individual on this planet has done more to combat AIDS in Africa. Bono will quickly respond “George Bush” and add that he did it without glory, without undue attention. Look it up if you don’t believe me.
Would we be better off today with George Bush in office? Absolutely.

Bush was Amazing, your comments at 3:10 are confusing. Who are these people you are referring to who think that President Obama can walk on water? Have you been reading the news lately? Over the past week or so he has really ticked off a whole bunch of his base by lending his support to tax policies that have been promoted by Republicans. On the other hand, based on your comments, he isn’t getting a lot of love from the right either for supporting policies that they actually want. And taxes are just one issue where his supporters have not been happy because they think he has compromised too much with Republicans and conservative Democrats. I guess you just can’t win with some people!
With regard to your comment about the President’s childhood home being in Kenya, that is just not factually correct. You are either making stuff up or you are easily fooled. This is good Liberal thinking:
“Rep. Cleaver has proposed a $48 billion earmark
When absurdity gives way to hilarity, you must be talking about politics.
In the midst of a colossal global concern for the economic stability of our great nation, Emanuel Cleaver, Missouri’s 5th Congressional District representative, has one small earmark on his wish list that deserves some attention.
Cleaver has listed a new earmark — one of several — and he promises to “fight for every one.” But this is a whopping $48 billion package that must go down as the grandaddy of all earmarks.
Proposed by a gentleman named Lamar Mickens, president of the not-for-profit Quality Day Campus, the $48 billion earmark would funnel money into the inner cities to give money to the poor and thereby produce a much larger consumer class to buy the goods and services produced in this country.
Just call this redistribution on steroids.”

Hence- I said his childhood home was in Kenya. So, my statements are indeed correct. Age 6- 10 I believe is your childhood. Correct me if I am wrong on that one too.
Wiki- Middle childhood
Main articles: Child and Preadolescence
Middle childhood begins at around age seven or eight, approximating primary school age and ends around puberty, the beginning of adolescence.
My statement was counter to Brenda’s who mentioned that everyone believes all presidents can walk on water and get things taken care of. I was simply telling her that the only people that believed that was in reference to Obama. So, please read carefully before criticizing someone.
And you’re right- this has proven his inability to run a country, not sure what to do or to act on his own accord. Mr. Bush did not care what others thought, and did what was best for his country, not for his political party. No one claimed Bush to be Messiah, as they have for Obama.
The Democrats realized what he was doing, and even some of the jumped the wagon before it got out of hand. They only went along with some of Obama’s issues for their own political gain in the future. The entire time, Mr. Obama has been trying to decide what will be good for his political gain and honor- he even had to bring in Former President Clinton to help out on this last issue you were talking about. How come he couldn’t do it on his own? Just another proof of his incapability to run the country and to do his job. Even his wife had put pressure on him to sign that crazy Healthy Food for children Act. Laura never pressured her husband to sign something because it was something she considered he was doing wrong… Laura Bush allowed her husband to make his decisions on his own, without embarrassing him infront of the whole country

Frank – Thank you so so much. Finally an intelligent comment. It amazes me how some people think that they must demonize and completely tear one person down in order to build the other one up. Why can’t the Republicans and Democrats work together and reach some kind of consensus in this crazy uncertain world that we are now living in? In unity there is still strength. If both parties could stop acting like children and stop this one-upmanship where they both want the credit and come together to find a solution to the problems that we are facing, we would indeed see a better country.

Well Miss Brenda, it was Obama who said the Republicans can come along, but must sit in the back of the bus, cause he wasn’t allowing them anything or willing to work with them. So please review your political events since Barry took office, and the way he wasn’t willing to give an inch to Republicans. He has turned this country towards the gutter, and the Republicans aren’t going to compromise with a guy who turned us to that direction and is not willing to be bipartisan whatsoever. So the facts you’re pointing towards are a fathom of the Liberal mind. With the gains in November, Barry will no longer be able to cram his agenda down our throats, and order will soon be restored. So don’t turn your nose up at Republicans, because it was your Liberal government that started it once they had complete power and could do what they wanted.

Sorry for my disappearance. God Bless…,family values, morals, ethics, standing up for America, blah, blah, blah. All buzzwords for people who seem to BELIEVE that only a minority/liberal hating conservative would follow. Why have your parents raised you to BELIEVE you are better than other humans? Shame on conservative households for doing this. Shame on grown conservatives for paying blowhards ungodly sums of money to scare everyone. These people did the country a disservice during the Salem witch trials, slavery,Jim Crow, segregation,J. Edgar Hoover’s plan to DEMONIZE ALL MEMBERS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT while allowing Supremacist groups to prosper,The Cold War(USSR was bound to fall, they were spending money simply trying to keep up with us). Not a party affiliation, but an ideal affiliation. If you’re easily frightened, you make an easy target for conservatism.
If you’re easily frightened, you’re an easy target for hate mongers.
Hate mongers don’t kkk robes anymore, they can wear suits. Look at Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck and all those who love them.
Frank, I agree with not demonizing a politician that you don’t agree with. Can we tell the Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck lovers that as well? Logically, making comments about liberal voices don’t hold water when you consider how much money is being thrown at kunservative blowhards.
No comparison. When call out ANY liberal voice, they don’t make the money that true hate mongers make.No comparison.
For the guy earlier who said “homeboy” wasn’t meant to be racist, that’s
why political correctness is still needed. DON’T REFER TO MINORITIES ANY WAY YOU CHOOSE. Conservatives, don’t feel free to demonize minorities. If you have an issue with minorities, and most of you do, then try counseling or a doctor to relieve the racial boil that’s growing on your backside!

The Demmies just don’t want to own up to their failures, and that’s the basis of their entire party: Point the finger, divert any and all questions, spend spend spend, and take from hard workers and give to those who don’t want to help their selves. I’m 26 years old, and I don’t have a lot of money, so it’s not like I’m pulling for Republicans to save my fortune, it’s because they stand for American principles and are based on what this great country was founded on. This current government is an “extreme” case of modern day Robin Hood, without the demonic King hording all of the money, but successful Americans that have helped their selves, and supply jobs for the rest of us.

Just because you take offense to the possibility of a racist remark doesn’t make it wrong or right, it’s your opinion, but you can’t tell me what to say or what not to say, cause I’ll get in your face and say whatever I want. Politicians are all the same wherever you go, Big Jim- they all claim to be out there for your own good, and to help the main cause, but when they get into office and the issues come out, they all just do what their parties are doing, and they hope their own political career will go further based on their votes. Mr. Obama is unaware of all this, since he never really had a political career before he got into office. Which is he is so wishy washy when it comes to deciding on a important cause or issue.
He just goes a long with whatever party there is for his own political gain…
he is a novice to this, and doesn’t realize most senators do this playing game for years, before even thinking about running for office, which was he had to bring in the big guns, and not to mention to bring in his wife too for support.

First the Democrats in and ruin everything, and then the Republicans come in and try to patch things up and put its pieces back together. they were just using obama since they had no one else.
That way, at the end of Obama’s term- and one time presidency, they will still be able to claim that it was the Republicans who ruined everything.

It’s great to have banter with someone as yourself and induce and deduce what you believe in.
I respect and don’t care Who you, or anyone Worships, What you believe in, or Who you vote for…..as long as you don’t hurt woman and children. Sure, we aren’t perfect here in “Merica”, and we’ve made mistakes…..but We (US) are always there to clean up and protect everyone else’s mess, disaster, and protect them from terrorist activities of others on Planet Earth. If any of my friends slam Obama i stand up and defend him…..i may not agree with him all the time, but he is still MY President right now….he has given Americans a different view and perspective which we have to respect, but not necessarily believe in….again, that is what is one of the Great things about America ! However, the guy has been in office 2 years. He can’t correct 8 years of crack pipe smoking in just 2 years. The number of military people that have died in wars that we SHOULD NOT be in is staggering. Now Obama has to figure a way to get us out of them, that won’t make all of the deaths and huge amount of money for nothing.

@Patrick Well then based on your stupid reasoning, Bush will is going to be the best president ever. This Bush got out of hand and should have been yanked out by the roots from the White House a long time before it actually happened.
