Matt Ryan clowns around with some of the kids attending the Topps Old Spice Matt Ryan Football Clinic at Centennial High School in Roswell over the summer. PHIL SKINNER /pskinner@ajc.com.
Aww. Here’s some happy news on the first day of work after Thanksgiving: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is engaged.
From a short ESPN piece announcing the item:
“Ryan said he and former Boston College basketball player Sarah Marshall, who have been dating for about seven years, are engaged. Ryan said he and Marshall will marry sometime in the offseason.”
ESPN credited WXIA for the initial report.
We have interviewed Ryan a couple of times, not about sports but about his philanthropic endeavors around town. Here’s a recent piece on his charity putt putt night with fellow Falcon Coy Wire.

As requested here is a photo of the happy couple. We found this one on http://www.sportsnipe.com.
The event benefited Make A Wish.
“Make-a-Wish is unique,” said Ryan. He told us during that interview that he has gotten to meet some of the kids for whom meeting him and seeing a Falcons game is a final wish when facing a terminal illness. “It’s an emotional experience. It’s bittersweet.”
Such a nice guy. Best wishes to him and his bride-to-be.

You can’t have an article about anything dealing with the Falcons without bringing up Michael Vick. People act like they live with Matt Ryan or something! You only know what you see on t.v. and have no idea what goes on when the cameras aren’t around. Give it time. Let him have a losing season and you will have plenty of negative things to say about him too……Atlanta never fails at kicking a person when he or she is down, but the minute things are going well, it’s all good. Whatever!

Well said! Who do these people think they are kidding when they spew code words like “Thug” all over the place? I am sick of these yahoos and their use of “code” words to describe their stereotypical views of African Americans…get a life why don’t ya!

@ MJ: Do you still wear a #7 Falcons jersey?
Matt–like some already suggested–GET A PRE-NUP! If she catches you cheating (Chipper Jones, Tiger Woods) it will save you a lot of money and headache. You have to realistic–not idealistic.

@ Jeff: You know there was time in my life that I would have been really offended by your comments, but you know they say sometimes the truth hurts. You are absolutley correct and I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes people have to be brought back down to reality because we/people/humans get sooooooo off track when it comes to morals and values. Thanks!!!!

First, Congrats to Matt Ryan, however Matt Ryan is not the first or last sports figure that will get engaged without having a child first and how do you know his bride-to-be is not expecting a baby now? Stop judging people….that does not make you have class because you chose to get married prior to having a baby. I know several people got married and had children later and now….Tiger Woods????Chipper Jones both got married before the children. Class has NOTHING to do with it.

it is great to see all the dimwits – that never set any goals in life – offer such a variety of advice to a young man that is so clearly capable of reflective thoughtful actions and critical thinking – how about let Matt play quarterback and run his own life – you guys get back to work before you burn those hash browns!

Love all these holier-than-thou folks standing in judgment of pro athletes. Yes, Ryan is a good one, and so far seems to be a decent guy. But ALL of us have human foibles.
Judge not, lest ye be judged, my narrow-minded, judgmental friends.

Congrats @ Matty Ice and his wife to be.
Matty Ice has done well in his three seasons.Last year he made some bad passes but this year he has learned not to panic and throw the ball away and I so love his growth as a quarterback.I love having a quarterback that convey that he definitely KNOWS the playbook….Keep it up Matty Ice!

Congratulations Mat and Sarah! May you be happy in your days ahead.
Now, to these fair-weathered, idiotic Atlanta fans with the Matty Ice comments. I wonder what you would be saying if the Falcons were 2-9?
And why does Michael Vick or anyone else have to brought up? This article is about Matt Ryan and his adventure into engagement and the happiness that marriage can bring. What a bunch of miserable idiots you all can be!

The world would truly be a better place if we could all simply accept one another for who we are, with the understanding that not everyone will live up to your expectations and follow your beliefs. Idealistic? Yes. Impossible? That’s your choice.

Who cares about his engagement. It will be over within five years or so. They have been dating to long to keep that going. Then the stupid divorce will play out in the “media” again for all of us to see.

she’s average but that’s how 90% of women look without make up.
he met her before he hit the lotto. This is probably the only woman he has ever been with.

beauty is overrated, she is not yet fat so I am sure she can still get him excited when she is naked.

Congrats Matty, you’ve been a tremendous breath of fresh air and class for this franchise and we as fans appreciate your work ethic, your humility to not ever believe you can never improve and just the contributions off the field to the community of Atlanta. I hope not only a wonderful marriage that lasts forever is in your future but a Super Bowl ring too to go along with that engagement ring you gave Sarah. Kudos and God’s blessings on you both
