Aww. Here’s some happy news on the first day of work after Thanksgiving: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is engaged.

From a short ESPN piece announcing the item:

“Ryan said he and former Boston College basketball player Sarah Marshall, who have been dating for about seven years, are engaged. Ryan said he and Marshall will marry sometime in the offseason.”

ESPN credited WXIA for the initial report.

We have interviewed Ryan a couple of times, not about sports but about his philanthropic endeavors around town. Here’s a recent piece on his charity putt putt night with fellow Falcon Coy Wire.

As requested here is a photo of the happy couple. We found this one on http://www.sportsnipe.com.

The event benefited Make A Wish.

“Make-a-Wish is unique,”  said Ryan. He told us during that interview that he has gotten to meet some of the kids for whom meeting him and seeing a Falcons game is a final wish when facing a terminal illness. “It’s an emotional experience. It’s bittersweet.”

Such a nice guy. Best wishes to him and his bride-to-be.

Great to have a young man like this leading our city’s team. The Falcons got this one right, and we have three consecutive winning seasons to show for it. Congrats to Matt on his engagement and for doing so much good for Atlanta.

Wow… a pro athlete actually getting ENGAGED to a woman before having a houseful of illegitimate kids with her… what a concept!

Ryan is a great gentleman and a great example to all people, not just kids… i think that about 90 percent of our nation’s thug athletes could learn a thing or two about decency from Matty Ice (people like LeBron, the early-years Michael Vick, Kroy Bierman, Tony Parker, Barry Bonds, Chris Rainey, Ben Roethlisberger, etc.) Matt obviously knows how to treat people, especially women, with some courtesy and decency.

Ladies: don’t give up the goods before a man commits to you. And guys, have some respect for a woman and MARRY HER if you love her, and CERTAINLY if you’ve knocked her up!

Good luck, Matty Ice… you are a class individual. May you and Sarah have a wonderful life together.

WELL DONE

Dear Mel – we’d have a lot LESS problems in this world if men did what Jeff @11:13am said. Imagine a world where men were faithful to their wives, were good fathers to their kids, and actually had virtues and values.

Not a great play.

Hoping for the best. Expecting the worst.

Its a better idea to wait until your career is over. Find a wife when you are in your mid 30s and retired. You can marry a girl in her mid 20s, have her sign the appropriate paperwork and start a family with plenty of time and money to spare.

Right now, its better to focus on career and meaningless relationships with the opposite sex.

He should have married a Kardashian. Falcons would be a lock to win the Super Bowl. There is still one of legal age that he can marry. GET’R Done Matty.

So here we have an article about Ryan getting engaged and a photo with two kids with Ryan while every fan just might like a glimpse of the bride to be.

Great journalism, but then again it is the AJC. No surprise.

I miss the days when Jeff George was the Falcons QB. Matty Ice is too boring. George used to fight with June Jones and other players on the sidelines.

Of course we will be groomsmen. And we will be doing shots and kegstands at the reception and we will be the last guys on the dance floor at the end of the night. Going strong right up to the whistle.

Funny, all the people on here with their high morals…I’m sure each and every one of you all have your own shortcomings. You only know about their shortcomings because athletes(thugs..lol) are in the spotlight. In the day and in age when none of you all have your own life and like to get on blogs and demean other people, the bottom line is get a life and keep it moving. Congrats to Matty and his engagement! Go Falcons!

In all seriousness though, he is a great leader and roll model and I’m very happy we drafted him. Congratulations and many, many happy years together!!

I am hurting right now cause I am Packers fan but I want to wish the best for Ryan. Unlike these other ball players out here sharing groupies, marrying groupies (Chad Johnson & company) Ryan is actually marrying someone who was there before the madness of his celebrity life started. CONGRADS!!!!

For all of you so call upstanding American citizens in Georgia, remember the term THUG applies to all like you who don’t practice what you preach. If you can use the term thug to refer to blacks maybe you should consider the following thugs whens it comes to FAMILIY VALUES: Newt Gingrich, John Edwards, Bill Clinton, Ben Roethlisberger and all the Catholic Priests who molest kids….Now how do you like those THUGS??

In this day of watching the National Felony Leage typically at their worst, it’s a breath of fresh air to see someone like Matt Ryan surface. Wishing him the best both on and off the field.
