Celebs including Big Boi, Ludacris, Steve Harvey all giving away turkeys on Tuesday

A number of notables will be providing Thanksgiving turkeys to needy families on Tuesday.

Comedian-author-radio personality Steve Harvey and his wife, Marjorie, will be giving away thousands of birds nationwide through Harvey’s syndicated radio show. The couple will be personally handing them out to families and senior citizens in need from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Adamsville Recreation Center, 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.

“It feels great to be giving away turkeys again this year, and to be in Atlanta this year to give turkeys is truly a blessing,” the couple said in a statement.

Also on Tuesday, from 4 to 10 p.m., Greenbriar Mall will be the site of the fourth annual Thanksgiving Festival, featuring producer Polow Da Don and artists Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Big Boi and Ludacris. That event will feature free rides, games, food and a chance to enter the “Free Rent For a Year” drawing along with the turkey giveaways. For more information see www.foundationfocus.org.

By the way Luda, Hilson and Big Boi all made The Hip Hop 100, a list of influential artists ranked by HipHopBlog.com. Here’s a link to the entire list.

And finally, rapper Akon’s Konfidence Foundation will be handing out turkeys from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Turner Field. The event is being organized in collaboration with Alex Gidewon’s charity The Gidewon Foundation. Kine Gueye Thiam, president of the Konfidence Foundation, will be on hand to personally the turkeys to area families in need.

The controversial things, folks make hundreds of comments. But the good things other do, get very few. Thanks to the celebs and all the volunteers who make Thanksgiving a day for which to be thankful.

The GOP should come to the black community and pass out free turkeys. That’s always proved helpful in getting people to forgive and forget.
