Well guess who showed up at Saturday’s performances of the 9-to-5 musical at the Fox Theatre.
Dolly Parton!
She starred in the movie back in the day, you know, and just happened to be in town. She said she is here in talks about a movie project. We’ll work on finding what that is all about.
Anyway, Dolly thrilled the audience by strutting onto the stage following this Saturday’s shows. Looking fabulous as always, she took the microphone for few minutes to say hello to everyone. Snellville’s own Diana DeGarmo plays the role of Doralee, which Dolly played in the movie. Here’s a review of Diana’s performance. She’s had a good deal of success performing in live theater roles since her run on “American Idol.”
Dolly stayed across the street at the Georgian Terrace while she was here.
“9-to-5″ has now departed the Fox. The final show here was Sunday.
Were you there on Saturday?

Dog-gone it! I missed seeing Dolly, one of my favorite stars.
I was there for the Sunday matinee — no Dolly there but it was a great show and Diana was a marvelous Doralee. If you didn’t go, you missed a fine entertaining show.
Big Dawg — you should crawl out of the dirt hole you dug and live in and come have some classy fun down here in Atlanta town at the great Fox Theater –
Fox Theater — you hear?!?

No coverage of the “Save Joe Patten Phantom of the Fox” protestors outside ~ shame on the AJC for ignoring the ongoing battle to keep a WWII gentleman, who’s saved the Fox Theater not once but twice from destruction, in his home.

Dolly = Class Act. How many stars can you name that have never brought shame to theirselves or their family, and that have been around as long as Dolly. Great, Great Lady!

I saw Dolly in 1967 when she was still with porter. Dolly in a green gingham dress. Sort of like a victoria secret model in a plaid skirt and knee socks.

I went to high school with Dolly and played in the Sevier County High School Marching Band with her (She played drums)…She performed in assembly and I am so happy that our paths in life crossed. She is a very genuine person.

I was there! It was so exciting!! I had seen the rumor on twitter and was very excited when she actually came out! We went around to the stage door afterwards, but Dolly went straight to her bus, but we did get to meet the rest of the cast including Diana- She was so so so so sweet!

I did not see Dolly — wasn’t there, but wish I had been. I saw Dolly decades ago, when she and Porter were sharing the stage at the Anawalt (W.Va.) Coal Festival.

I have seen Dolly perform numerous times and she is truly one of the rare performers who genuinely enjoys performing for us as much as we enjoy seeing her performances.

What a great show! I saw it in New York with the original cast, but I would like to see this cast too, particularly Diana DeGarmo! I can’t imagine how much of a treat it would be to see Dolly!
AND – I just wonder why people feel compelled to be rude. There are plenty of people who care about Dolly and this great show. So, BigDawg, if you really didn’t know or care….why did you read the article AND take the time to post?

BigDawg… If you weren’t there and don’t care, then why take the time to post? Get a hobby or something, dude.
Anyway, Dolly is a great person and truly an amazing artist. Saw 9 to 5 on Broadway and loved it! I wasn’t able to make it to the Fox, but I’ll be seeing the show on its swing through Huntsville later this month! I can’t wait!

If there is anyone in Hollywood more down to earth and genuine than Dolly, I have no idea who it could be. She’s the real deal, and she never forgets or overlooks her fans.

Wish more people would do the same!

The show was very entertaining — I thought Diana D did a great job as Doralee — seeing Dolly was a FUN BONUS at the end of the show! I always love going to the Fox, and apparently, Dolly does, too!

Dolly, in case you’re reading this, I’d love to have breakfast or lunch or dinner with you while you’re in Atlanta. Let me know. You can get my e-mail address from the AJC person who monitors this blog, I’m sure.

Yes, we were there for the 8:00PM performance. I had almost left after what I thought was the last curtain call. Heard all the commotion in the audience and turned around and saw her on-stage. She sang a verse or two of 9 to 5 and was a huge hit with the audience. She had a great line about the big boobs in Washington. Diana DeGarmo was outstanding and sounded more like Dolly than Dolly herself. The whole show was excellently done and moved at a tremendous rapid fire pace. Would like to see it again.

Why didn’t Dolly walk upstairs and ask Mr. Joe Patton to walk out onstage with her. He is the Real Star in that theatre. I guess Joe’s loyalty and unending devotion to keep theatres like the Fox open so Stars like Dolly can shine… just doesn’t sell tickets. Oh yeah, I forgot, it’s not in the 9 to 5 Contract with the Fox and that is all the Fox recognizes is contracts… not human beings. I bet the Fox Board and Management treat their own grandparents that way too.

I would have loved to have seen her had it been at a different venue. I have withdrawn all support of the Fox due to their cruel treatment of Joe.
