Atlanta Black Gay Pride begins tonight with a candlelight vigil. It will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at First Metropolitan Community Church at 1379 Tullie Rd.
Most of the festival’s events will take place at the Loew’s Hotel, with workshops planned at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead and a pool party at Piedmont Park.
Pre-registration and a VIP reception will be held Thursday and the official opening ceremony is Friday night, followed by outings at several locations and a “Fire and Desire Mini-Ball.”
After full days of events on Saturday and Sunday, including a marketplace, fashion show, health workshops and film festival, things wrap up late Sunday night with “Rickie’s Midnight Cabaret.”

Atlanta police are investigating the recent shooting death of Atlanta Black Gay Pride organizer Durand Robinson. They have not yet determined a motive, and Robinson’s family members told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution they suspect the crime was random.
“This guy couldn’t possibly have had any enemies, ” said Prince Robinson, one of Durand Robinson’s younger brothers. Prince Robinson said his brother was raising five nieces.
