Black Gay Pride festival begins with vigil

47444_1509972021858_1011078506_1489645_5225986_nAtlanta Black Gay Pride begins tonight with a candlelight vigil. It will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at First Metropolitan Community Church at 1379 Tullie Rd.

Most of the festival’s events will take place at the Loew’s Hotel, with workshops planned at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead and a pool party at Piedmont Park.

Pre-registration and a VIP reception will be held Thursday and the official opening ceremony is Friday night, followed by outings at several locations and a “Fire and Desire Mini-Ball.”

After full days of events on Saturday and Sunday, including a marketplace, fashion show, health workshops and film festival, things wrap up late Sunday night with “Rickie’s Midnight Cabaret.”

For full event details see the official Web site.

Atlanta police are investigating the recent shooting death of Atlanta Black Gay Pride organizer Durand Robinson. They have not yet determined a motive, and Robinson’s family members told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution they suspect the crime was random.

“This guy couldn’t possibly have had any enemies, ” said Prince Robinson, one of Durand Robinson’s younger brothers. Prince Robinson said his brother was raising five nieces.

It will be nice to see the homophobic OTP’ers stay locked in thier homes all weekend. We really don’t like it when you come into town anyway. At least the city of ATL has leaped into the 21st century with some tolerance (not true for the rest of the south).

It’s funny how accepting liberals are as long as you agree with them.

Dear Proud: I don’t remember the part about ATL leaping into the 21st century during the mayoral election. Seemed pretty racial to me. Just saying….the way all the blacks jumped on one bandwagon when they thought there might be a more deserving white mayor.

According to Proud, OTP’ers are homophobes… So there are no homophobes in the City of Atlanta? Maybe Gone doesn’t want to come to the park due to the number of black people at the celebration since all OTP’ers are racists too. I mean, while we’re sterotyping…..

I’m gay, and a white male. However, I can’t figure out why we have a black gay pride. We don’t have white gay prides, or asian gay prides, etc, etc.

Judging myself and not others

I don’t support the gay/lesbian lifestyle (based on my religous beliefs)…But I will not disrespect another person for their life choice…I am NOT GOD and I don’t have a right to judge anyone…We all need to judge ourselves instead of others!!!

I’m a Black female and I thank all of the Black Gay Men who will be at the festival on this weekend. I applaud you for being who you are, and being outright with it. It’s the ones who are still in the closet, in denial, and on the down-low who are killing us.

I’ve already found gay men attractive.
Does that mean I have homosexual tendencies?

To the FreakNik Guy: No means No!!! When Half Naked young Black Women walk around with half theif azz hanging out and a young Black guy gropes her on the azz and she said stop, A Bro wants to clown on her(Bitch,F— that ho). When young Black Gay men are in Piedmont Park on Pride day let it all hang out Its all about Fun. You never heard the city of Atlanta screaming to shut down pride Day,But hell yes stop the freakNik if it will stop young Black men from acting like they dont have no home training. Oh and by the way Im a 43yr old Black man if you was wondering.

No Freaknik, people are against Freaknik because of the crime, shootings, thugs walking around with their pants down around their kness while they’re holding their crotches, cars jumping up and down with their rap “music” on full blast, and groping of women. The front hood of my car had to be replaced because of thugs jumping up and down on it while I was stuck in traffic. Just makes Atlanta look like nothing but a huge, crime-ridden ghetto. It’s the ultimate embarrassment to our city, and gives nothing but a negative backlash to black people.

For the person that made the comment about Down-low brothers. The epedimic of Aids in the straight world does not come from Down-low black men, but from straight IV drug users, Check your data and let the truth be known. If society was fair then no one would be on the Down-low.
