Atlanta tops lists of “most irritated cities”

Atlanta is the crankiest city in the nation.

That’s according to a new poll conducted by Sperling’s BestPlaces and was based on a measurement of 11 irritation factors, including pest control, traffic congestion, and heat index, among others.

(We just walked across the street for lunch and can attest that the heat index is indeed pretty irritating today.)

The survey was commissioned by Edge Shave Zone, who has signed on comedian John Caparulo to help get the word out. Because of his, ahem, sharp wit. Heh.

Here’s the whole list.

I couldn’t agree more… having more than our fair share of b*tchy women probably tipped the scales to put us on top.

No way. Just another “list” developed by someone in the Northeast. New York City not being on the list makes it a dead give-away. Here is my list – just as accurate: (1) New York, (2) Boston, (3) Philly, (4) Washington DC, (5) Chicago, (6) Cleveland, (7) Pittsburgh, (8) Minneapolis, (9) Hartford, (10) San Francisco. My list is based on a cold index, rat problems, rude people, dirty cities, sucky college sports programs, muggings and other crime, and being expensive.

Oh, and Scott, hit the road, buddy. I would be happy to be helpful by giving you directions and might even drive you to the airport and carry your luggage for you, because I am so nice.

Been living in Atl for over 30 years. Things are changing for the worst. Piedmont Park isn’t even safe anymore. The students at Tech can’t be out past 10p. Intown living is flat out scary with the amount of break ins and muggings. Thugs have taken over this town. You’re almost forced to move to the north part of town. Truly said. Atl is the Detroit of the south. Where are these thugs parents?

I grew up in Atl, and Piedmont park has NEVER been ” safe “.
i’m going to name some places for you where the crime is 10x’s worst then Atl.

1. Phoenix
2. Philly
3. jersey
4. New york
5. Boston
6. L.A.
8.pick a TX city ( Houston, Dallas, SA, etc..)

should i keep going? I have lived in or around all of those cities. Atlanta is by far, the best city i have ever lived.

sorry been here close to 12 yrs and i have to agree Atlanta is a very cranky city for the most part… and i bet traffic is a major cause of it… its easy to blame the yankee’s of course…. but perhaps every once in a while we should nod and say hello to a stranger… crack a smile now and again… be courteous instead of rush rush rush….

i will give you an example, the other week a SUV was driving very fast in our gated comman area driveway, the grand kids were playing and very nicely as they passed us we said would you please slow down.. the very nice lady in the back seat shot us the bird and they kept on driving….

southern hospitality at it’s best……………

I’m gonna have to concur that Atlanta is no Detroit. Nowhere near the level of desolation.

That said, Katrina did wash up some criminal New Orleans feces, I mean thugs, on our doorstep.

I’m so cranky I sit in East Atlanta with a Benelli, watching Gran Torino over and over.

I love Atlanta!

I am from ATL and it has become too much…where is the southern hospitality… The people, culture, morals and values have changed. We now have lots of vultures and buzzards in this city. I am so disappointed in everything right dealing with Atlanta. @ Scott I don’t blame you, move on and find happiness, peace and joy. To all you others attacking him… you are proving the point of this being a cranky city… So Crank on… I will continue to be a true ATLien and get my city back to where it needs to be….

Show me a foreigner in Atlanta that refuses to learn the English language and can’t speak an English word that isn’t always loud, boisterous, irritated, rude, unreasonable and unruly and I’ll show you emerald ocean water in Arkansas. They most likely interviewed these uninvited guest who reside in Atlanta.

Remove them (until they speak English) and the irritation factor goes down considerably if not off the chart.

I'll move when I'm ready

I don’t care about the illegals or the traffic, it’s the crazy conservative crank-jobs in this city that drive me nuts! (And no need to tell me to leave, I have every bit as much right to be here as you haters do!)

Go live up in the north when there’s 2 feet of snow on the crowd and you go 37 days in a row with the temperature never getting above freezing and then tell me about irritation levels. Atlanta has zero irritation level compared to shovel snow out of your driveway so you can go to the grocery store when it is -3 degrees and the wind chill is -27.

cleveland, ohio is by far the most irritated city in america. Lebron just left them, the Browns & Indians suck, the weather is horrible 90% of the year, and the economy is horrible.

Atlanta has its issues like any major city but it’s not even near the worst.

Actually, I’ve found everyone in Atlanta to be extremely polite and nice.

Atlanta’s biggest downfall is the fact that it is an unplanned city run by idiotic bureaucrats who carry on the legacy of entitlement.

Other than that and traffic, and the extreme heat, there is little to complain about. I’ve grew up in the midwest and as others have mentioned, dealing with extreme heat and smog is much better than extreme cold and snow.

Grow a pair, ATLiens.

It is just a poll everyone. Don’t get your panties all in a wad. Love it or hate it. Check out their website for other polls that this topic came from. It shows Atlanta being as one of the best places to live and other positive subjects. I happen to find Atlanta has its pros and cons, but I have lived in NYC and Los Angeles for work months at a times, and the people are just as rude, traffic terrible and the weather is so so.

People should start to really consider Smyrna as a great alternative to Atlanta. It’s close and it is its own city. The Police and city government is first class. You can live like a king out here for what it costs to live in Buckhead.

After reading these comments I can understand why Atlanta was voted the crankies city. Boy, you people need to lighten up, check your blood pressure you’re about to blow a gasket…LOL

Complaining about the humidity, its the SOUTH, what did you expect? There’s nothing you can do about the humidity, its nature. And then you complain about the traffic, the traffic has been bad here for over twenty years, you knew that before you moved here. And then you complain about crime and blame it on Katrina victims, that’s not true every nut job in the news is a GRADY BABY.

If you spent less time complaining and more time embracing the positive then you wouldn’t be so cranky. If you want a good chuckle, just think of some of the wierd landmarks here in the metro area, THE BIG CHICKEN, I ROFL everytime its mentioned. Oh, by the way I’m not a native but I love Atlanta, I just had the sense live in a town called Between, thats between Athens and Atlanta.

Yeah!!! One more thing we are number 1 at!! Failed banks, foreclosures, unemployment, smog, # of teabaggers per capita!! I was getting tired of being last place in so many things (job growth, education, etc).

One question: Why would any sentient being live in Atlanta, Ga, or Dixie. The air is awful, the traffic horrible, the education a joke, the politicians vile white trash(as are most of the people) the heat and humidity unbearable, and on and on. The gay-bashing obsession and the endless Bible thumping are sickening as well. Here is a hint – why the hey don’t you Southern states secede? I am sure the rest of the nation will object mightily! Not!!!

Good perspective, Jennifer. Here are MY reason for ATL’s crankiness:

1. Selfish/obnoxious drivers
2. Smog from May-September
3. Really poor street signage
4. Uncontrolled growth
5. A city too busy to be friendly anymore

My wife and I just moved to ATL from Nebraska and can attest to the city’s cranky attitude. Nebraska’s unemployment rate hit a high of five percent last year, and foreclosures are rare as they used to be everywhere. No short sales. But when we Midwesterners move here to alter the attitude for the better, perhaps ATL’s first place will fall!
