After watching Mychael Knight and Anthony Williams make fashion happen on deadline during past seasons of “Project Runway,” we will have another Georgia competitor to cheer for during the next season of the Lifetime reality show.
April Johnston, right, a 2010 graduate of the SCAD School of Fashion, will be among the hopefuls snipping and clipping under the watchful eye of Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum.
By the way it looks like Klum has gone from blonde to a light honey brown for this season, judging from this photo, below, from the show’s Web site.

How do you like Heidi's new hair color?
The season kicks off at 9 p.m. July 29.
Johnston, 21, will be the youngest of the 17 contestants and is the only contestant from the South. She lives in Savannah, which Buzz declares is close enough to claim her as one of our own, especially given SCAD’s presence in Atlanta. Her senior collection was inspired by deconstructed halls, old asylums and abandoned morgues, the school told us. Her SCAD Style Lab mentor, Zac Posen, guided her through the creation of her collection of black and grey pieces with detailed textures.
“Everybody at SCAD is thrilled for April,” said SCAD School of Fashion Dean Michael Fink. “We’ll all be glued to our sets. If her provocative and powerful senior collection is any indication, we’re confident she’ll create some exciting and intriguing clothes.”

I guess Mary doesn’t see fashion like that when she shops at “Dress Barn”.

SCAD27, I used to work for a school of visual arts. So, I know all about the tedious attempts to be “edgy” and different. Yawn.

Should be interesting since she is a recent graduate and not a seasoned professional like most of the contestants have been.

Well, if daddy can afford SCAD’s tuition of about $50K per year he can sure buy her better clothes.

Hey, good for her for going outside of the mainstream for inspiration. I just hope that A) her style has something that sets her apart from the generic “Hot Topic mall rat” look (and this is speaking as someone with a fondness for lace, puffy shirts, buckles, etc.) and B) she’s flexible enough to work with the challenges the show sets and still let her style shine through.
After hearing this news, I get the feeling I’m going to start watching this show this season. Best of luck to her!
