Tyler Perry on “Boondocks” rumors

The Straight from the A web site nabbed a few minutes with Tyler Perry at the Essence Music Festival in Louisiana over the weekend, and posed questions about that recent “Boondocks” episode that satirized Perry and his “Madea” character.

Perry didn’t want to go into details but did tell Straight from the A, “there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I’m suing The Boondocks. Those are all lies. I’m not suing anybody over that.”

Perry also said he hasn’t fired anyone on his staff over the numerous rumors floating around since the episode aired.

” I don’t know where all that came from,” he told Straight from the A.

“Boondocks,” created by Aaron McGruder, airs on Adult Swim, while Perry projects “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns” air on TBS.

Following the episode, titled “Pause,” Turner execs reportedly were busy trying to smooth things over with Perry.

And this is news because? Come on it isnt going to be an issue as this is Boondocks finale season. Tyler Perry is just trying to get Turner to pay him more $ to hush.

Seriously what he do in his personal life is his business but he should have just let this pass and not even give it fuel by even replying.

Props to Michelle at Straight from the ATL for the exclusive and props to AJC for giving proper credit for it sources. I got more respect for yall now!

Doubt it. Mcgruder probably just gained more fans off of this while more people will probably take a step back and actually question if Some of Perry’s TV shows actually help or just push the stereotype about black folks.

@ ohwell.

There is nothing to ponder there, I think Aaron just helped a lot of blacks realize that Tyler is setting us back years, with the streotypical cooning done in his movies and shows.

Here’s the problem with suing Boondocks. If he’s suing Boondocks, he’d need to sue the Cleveland Show too. They have a similar (although not as direct of an attack) episode about a “cross-dressing aunt” and make some of the same innuendos.

The problem is that no one watches The Cleveland Show so it hasn’t come to light…

Tyler Perry is GAY. It is his choice, but don’t try to be on the down low or deny it.

I love the Boondocks. They rip on everyone…..Black Preachers, Fox News, Gangsta rappers, the church, etc.

Dear JJ1973

I saw the episode you’re referring to. But like you said, little came of that. I think TCS could be smart and funny if it sort of got a handle on itself. The talking bear? I just don’t get it.

Weird how someone can make so much money by stereotyping and making fun of black people and black people love it.

This just goes to prove that the AJC jumped the rumor gun. Tyler Perry never publicly admitted he was going to sue anyone. Seems like RO just wanted to create some drama by creating a false blog!

Just for your information..ALL Blacks do not find Madea Nor Boondocks funny or love it..YOU yourself are stereotyping by placing a Whole people in one group. I never thought Madea was funny, nor boondocks and I been black all my life. all 54yrs of it.

How Could Tyler Perry sue? Although clearly everyone knows who Boondocks had in mind but as Long as Tyler Perry’s name was NEVER mentioned, what exactly can he do? His name was never mentioned. Its like Dreamgirls. Motown Could not sue as None of the names were mentioned from Motown. Although everyone Knew it was a loose story based on the Supremes although filled with extra fiction to throw off the audience but Supremes fans Knew exactly who they were portraying. They changed the story just enough so they didnt have to Pay the original people they were portraying..its called Rip off. Just like this Boondocks idoit.
Perry took the high rode. ignore it, it Wont stop his character Madea from continuing to sell millions. Actually I am neither a fan of Madea nor the Boondocks, I think they both portray blacks in a negative light just to get a few laughs.sorry I dont get either of them.

Everyone watches Fox, so everyone watches The Cleveland Show!
(relatively speaking) Do you think everyone watches BET or CMT?

Black people are too thin skinned! You let a rapper/comedian
break us down to the last compound, but don’t accept intelligent
chatter. The AJC isn’t the problem. The price of gas ain’t the problem.
It’s us(blacks)!!

The Cleveland Show episode came on about 2-3 months ago.
Sunday was a repeat folks!
It wasn’t a big deal because that audience is more intelligent
than a typical Tyler Perry audience. The Boondocks’ audience
is a more intelligent crowd than Perrys’.

Remember in the ’90’s, Jet magazine(I think), ran an article on The Simpsons.
The original idea for the family was to make them black. That had to be
scrapped of course. A bumbling dad and reprobate son wouldn’t have
gone over well with blacks!! Forget the loving, forgiving mother; a genius
sister, and a smart for her age infant. How about a veteran granddad?

Regular people get beat up everyday. No one cares.
For lack of a better phrase, Tyler Perry should “take it like a man”!
Everyone should remember this as we struggle to make it everyday.

Blacks, we need to experience a paradigm shift. A new/different way
of looking at things. Ajax,Keith, I agree. A hit dog will bark. Where’s
there’s smoke, there’s fire. If it walks a duck, and quacks like a duck,

I think that when Tyler Perry talks about blogs spreading rumors and not being truthful … he’s talking about you, Jennifer Brett.
But I’m sure you’ll promptly delete this posting as you wouldn’t to have any truth on your blog.

Tyler Perry is no different from Flip Wilson(aka Geraldine) and Martin Lawrence(Big Momma’s House)….if you don’t like it don’t watch it!! It kills me when the “Uncle Ruckus’” of the world think that every black entertainer has to be a representation of “black America”! I’m sure white folks don’t think Archie Bunker and the show “Married with Children” is a representation of “White America”…get a life and do some work in the black community! Put your $$$ and time where your mouth is, the way that Tyler Perry does consistently…CRABS!!

In that case, I’m curious. Have you tried to called Tyler Perry’s people? Because I have a Google alert set up with his name, too, and get all those blogs you could re-posting as your own.
So when are you going to do some original reporting?

Tyler Perry is a idiot. Mrs Sportsluva. His story line is the same thing again and again but somehow, fools find that nonsense as being funny. And if he really was the Christian he says he would, he would not have his overgrown butt walking around in a dress!!!

Is me,me,me Tyler Perry? One of his friends?

ms. sportsluva, you’re probably too young to understand
that Archie Bunker.George Jefferson,The Evans family,
MASH, The Simpsons,The Boondocks, even the Tyler Perry
rubbish represent in some way a slice of American life.

Don’t you think a show in Spain or Kenya would represent
the everyday lives of the local residents?

How stupid could you be to think that the views on homo-eroticism
would be same now, especially when thew Catholic church continues
to “pay” for the sins of their perverted Priests. Perhaps, they’re paying
for the sins of their perverted, flawed institution. Tyler Perry is different
because he is “representing” religion while crossdressing. His personal
life is his business, but don’t make money off of it for the purpose of

This segment of the population is growing in Mega Churches around the country.
They have money, so they have more say so the the rest of us!
Flip Wison and Martin Lawrence are/were COMEDIANS. Tyler Perry
is a crossdresser/transvestite. All of you defenders need to accept him
for what he is, not those of us who already see the real picture but aren’t
afraid to “call a spade a spade”.

ajax- who told you that “black people love it”? All the blacks you know? Yeah okay. I’m black, know plenty of black people and not ONE of them watch the show. Not one. Matter of fact the only person I’ve ever heard say they think the show is funny is Indian and when he said it, I thought he was trying to be sarcastic cause I couldn’t fathom that he really meant that. Please don’t use a stereotypical statement like yours to denounce those that stereotypes others- that doesn’t make much sense.

As for Perry, get a grip already. Shows like the Boondocks, SNL, South Park, the former Dave Chappelle Show, comedy-spoof movies, and every single late-night talk show there is have been making fun of famous people since forever, so what makes Perry immune from attack? R. Kelly, Britney Spears, Mike Vick, Tiger Woods, Lindsey Lohan, Zsa-Zsa Gabor, Paris Hilton, Kanye West, and even Oprah have been targets before so don’t think you won’t too. That’s the unfortunate part of the price of fame so go wipe your tears with some of those big face hundred dollar bills you made from doing the same with those Madea movies, Red Dog and ohwell have a point there. To me that may be as bad as what McGruder threw Perry’s way and him being bother by it appears to be poetic justice…only hurt dogs holler.

I’m slightly disappointed that the drama is all lies. Perry’s movies and shows are lame. I dont think he’ll ever be able to escape the chitlen circuit feeling you get when ever you watch/see his material.

Big up to the Boondocks; the 3rd season has well worth the wait!

Missing Pause Episode

Why is the “Pause” episode missing from The Boondocks official website, if Tyler kept quiet about the whole thing? @ajax, I totally agree.
