This is Wonder Woman's "new look."
A modern gal, that Wonder Woman. Always ahead of her time.
Long before Lady Gaga was running around in leotards as if they constituted an entire outfit, Wonder Woman was keeping the peace in a strapless star-spangled bathing suit with red go-go boots and regal-looking headband.
Completing the look were those awesome bullet-reflecting bracelets and the golden lasso of truth. Just try keeping your evil secrets when Wonder Woman has you wrapped up in that thing!
(Can you tell Buzz is a child of the ’70s? Wonder Twin powers! Activate! OK, sorry for the digression.)
Anyway, Wonder Woman’s new outfit, just unveiled by DC Comics, takes a big step back sartorially, in our humble opinion. She’s tricked out in this get-up that a Prince

The classic Wonder Woman look, demonstrated by actress Lynda Carter
back-up singer might have worn in 1988 – black leggings and a bustier topped by this cropped bolero jacket.
Trumpeting the new look, DC Comics said “bestselling artist and DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee has redesigned her costume for the modern era.”
Modern? We aren’t really feeling it. What do you think?

A TRAD., I hope that was sarcasm. WW gets a makeover because her comic book doesn’t sell well enough and Time Warner would like to develop a WW movie without the lead running around in a one-piece bathing suit. It’s silly to bring political ideology into it. DC Comics is regarded as a conservative comics imprint anyway, but sometimes you have to try something new.

I agree – it does look like something a Prince backup singer would have worn. Would have loved to have seen what Karl Lagerfeld would have come up with for her.

This is not an upgrade. This is why some men can not dress a woman, let alone a Wonderwoman! The outfit does not look sexy, and feminine like the classic Wonderwoman I grew up thinking I was (and still do).

So… you all read the comic book every month?
Or are you just fixated on the iconic image of Wonder Woman, forgetting that there is an actual hero in that costume. That’s what Wonder Woman is about, a strong female character who tries to balance the ideals of peace with the necessity of war.
From a cynical viewpoint, Time Warner is not going to “erase” the classic Wonder Woman costume. There is too much merchandise and licensing money involved.
Instead, her new costume is a result of an alternative history which will take place in the comic book series published every month. Go read Wonder Woman #600, out now at your local comic book shop, and then decide.

I agree with the majority of the observations. In this new get up WW looks like she’s more ready to go clubbin’ (circa 1986-89) or get in a street fight than fight crime on a global scale. If they had wanted to change her costume, and I’m trying to understand why you change something that works anyway, why not have a WOMAN take a crack at it?

I think its better. I grew up with the old wonder woman comics, but looking at the old suit now, its kinda campy.
If they want the proposed movie to go over well, they probably did need to update her look.
Good idea.

I’m very disappointed. I’ve been reading WW for years and don’t see the point of this at all. I’m tired of hearing how sexist her old look was–honestly, I don’t care. It was a classic look and I’ll miss it, and this new outfit will not be grabbing me to pick up the comic.

It’s amazing how conservatives like A Traditionalist have to politicize everything. It’s always a “liberals” fault.
Those idiots have nothing else to go on, so everything they don’t like is labeled liberal. LOL

I think they should have left well enough alone, on that note, I’m fine with how the torso, head and the new wrist gauntlets and don’t mind the jacket. However I’m on the fence on the pants (spandex)? Here legs were much of a symbol, well at least to me. I’m curious to see what some of the alternative concepts looked like before this one was finalized.

the old costume would not work in the new movie thats coming out in a couple years. It just wouldnt folks. Im a Wonder Woman fan, but the old costume is too silly looking if they want to have a serious movie.
It worked for the comics and the 80s tv series, but it wouldnt work for the new movie.
Even in the comics they updated her look for a time, so this isn’t entirely out of left field.
Besides she is a woman…you know she got more than one outfit!

I’m a TRUE WW fan been reading it for years I love the OLD look this new one DOES NOT work for me, DC has tried this before in the 60’s with the mod outfit and the early 90’s when Artemis won the contest and she always came back to the Original outfit, BUT CHANGING HER ORIGINS come ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF. Sent to man’s world as a baby; She is NOT Superman they are going to confuse alot of readers, Donna Troy anyone,we still don’t know her TRUE origin, FIX this screwed up time line thing and bring our Princess back to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, are they changing Superman also? That creation could be Wonder Woman’s daughter??? But it just is not Wonder Woman. Show her picture and any age will recognize who it is. Show this picture and who recognizes her at all. I don’t have to read the comic book every month to know Wonder Woman when I see her.

Ugly. And why make her look like a teenager when the woman has got to be in her 70s..if I am not mistaken didnt wonder woman come out in the 1930s shouldnt she be retired and her granddaughter get the tiara pasted to her? I always hated leggins..but always felt Sue richards from the Fantastic four looked the hottest with that shoulder length blond hair and that body. also Black Canary wore those tights and always looked hot. Wonder woman always had a two piece bathing suit with and eagle on her chest. However a lady in her 70s may look a little strange in such a reveling outfit. Time to retire Wonder Woman and perhaps come up with Wonder Woman TODAY..who is a relative to the original Wonder Woman..at least her Granddaughter!

You have got to be kidding?!?! Do the powers at be at DC Comics not remember the story behind her costume? When Wonder Woman was created in 1941 she wore the colors of red, white, blue, and the eagle, to show her allegiance to the United States of America as she helped fight the Nazis during World War II. Her costume stood for truth, justice, and the American way. It was supposed to represent the American flag. Now she looks like she is going to perform in concert. Would DC Comics take away Superman’s “S” or Batman’s cape cowl? I think not and I would hope not. So why change a symbol of American culture and an icon for nearly 70 years? Some things are better left as they are. Wonder Woman’s costume would be one of those things.
